Am I the only one who says people are overreacting about Trump with nukes???

It's the fiscal policy that's got me freaked out.

Also potential tariffs.

Overall trade relations.

The things I'm worried about... just put down "economy"

you seem to forget that the actual operators of the nuclear weapons swore to defend the constitution not allegiance to the president. military officers are trained to refuse illegal orders and launching nuclear weapons do not just happen at a whim. pull your head out from your hindquarters, snowflake.

Alllll I'll say about politics on here tonight: If you aren't worried about foreign policy, you really should be.

The incoming administration has straight-up not appointed anyone for a HUGE number of foreign policy jobs. They're completely asleep at the wheel. Another example: A couple of days ago Trump said he considers Monday to be "Day One". Who's going to be president over the weekend? "Weekend President" Pence?

The only real foreign policy appointment that's been made was General Flynn, and he's quite demonstrably lost in a racist fever dream.

Trump is going to use the military. You really think he won't? There will be a war. At least one. He'll probably try to follow the Russian model of attacking smaller, weaker neighbor states that he imagines have insulted him somehow. Can we guarantee wars stay small?

Because of Trump's behavior towards Taiwan, China is now openly discussing taking the island by force. This seriousness of this kind of talk is a new development. If he keeps demonizing China, what then? If they literally invade Taiwan, what then? Russia's invasion of Crimea set a dangerous precedent that Trump has endorsed... China could easily calculate he'll do nothing, whether it's true or not.

Just one possibility of many. Other nations always test the United States around presidential transitions. Someone certainly will this time.

This world is in incredibly serious danger the moment Trump is sworn in. Underestimate it if you want, or if it brings you comfort to do so. But, to agree with the original post... We are QUITE fucked. All of us.

"voter fraud"

trump was MORE concerned about this... remember?

"women's rights"

Trump isn't uber conservative on abortion, the only challenge is the supreme court seat and even then we'll still have to see. Other than that, which woman's rights are you concerned about?

"LGBT discrimination"

when has Trump been anti-LGBT in what he's proposed...?

"religious bigotry"

you mean anti-islam? yeah I think he's been pretty bad with over generalizing, i'll agree with this one

"xenophobia"

just because someone's xenophobic, doesn't mean a wall is a bad idea. It being ineffective and costly are the only genuine complaints I have there. also, he has talked about changing the immigration system, it's already super messed up

"education policy"

because Obama was a knight in shining armor, adding more standardized tests and by throwing money at kids gave free reign for college tuitions to spike. Or are you talking about him not liking the fact that Asian kids are super discriminated against in the college selection process? whichever i guess

"environmental policy and protection"

yeah this one also worries me, I live in Oklahoma and... well that's enough said, huh?

"Congressional power grabs"

i also agree, but we've had 2 decades of centralization of power, this isn't like a SUDDEN spike in this is going to occur

"don't matter too much, right Yanik?"

compared to an out of control national debt that is producing an interest of 8% of our federal budget with RECORD LOW interest rates, combined with low-internal investment because of a seemingly perpetual increase in cost indexes for employers, alongside metropolitan areas filled to the brim with corruption allowing monopolies to run rampant on our economy

and we now have a President who wants a trillion dollar infrastructure plan and major trade tariffs.

My god Bo you're right. IT DOES FUCKING MATTER

Brad, you're absolutely right, and I have faith in those who serve this country to uphold their duty, but the fact that the President himself has not even stepped into office yet and has already demonstrated a remarkably ignorant attitude toward nuclear warfare is scary enough. Honestly, I don't think Trump will even bother memorizing where the proper codes are on the biscuit, but he has a happy trigger finger and a very worrying attitude on the matter.

@James … yeah. Lol. It does.

“trump was MORE concerned about this... remember?”

WAS. WAS. WAS. WAS. WAS. Don’t highlight the wrong word. He WAS concerned about it, because it was politically expedient to be concerned about it. He doesn’t give a shit about it right now, nor will he again, unless Democrats are insane enough to run the Chosen One for a third straight time.

Which women’s rights am I concerned about? I like to start off with the right to not be sexually assaulted. That’s pretty crucial. Likewise, you forget who the VP is and who Congress is - contraceptive access, prenatal care, access to organizations like Planned Parenthood, and access to alternate sex ed besides abstinence are all at risk.

“when has Trump been anti-LGBT in what he's proposed”

Two words: Mike Pence.

“just because someone's xenophobic, doesn't mean a wall is a bad idea.”

Have you ever been to the border, Yanik? There’s a pretty fucking massive river, a barbed wire fence, and one of the most heavily militarized border police patrols in the world. It is so fucking hard for someone from Mexico to get into the United States that smugglers get paid tens of thousands of dollars per head just to get them across the border, and then what? They get thrown in a factory job no halfway educated person would ever want. I am a huge proponent of making citizenship easier to achieve and cracking down hard on undocumented people (simply because citizenship is better for them anyway), but as things are, undocumented people are *not* a problem in this country, and since it’s now my tax dollars being pledged toward this stupid wall, I’m upset about it.

Regarding education policy, go check out Secretary DeVos’ (ugh) hearing. It would be funny, if it didn’t matter so much. Likewise, Mr. Trump (not POTUS yet, fuck off) kinda got sued for funding a fake university. Nbd.

Environmental policy? Yeah, don’t get me started. Oklahomans should get it, but most of yall don’t, judging by, well, everything.

An out of control national debt is a big deal that Trump is going to give zero shits about. I don’t mind that, honestly, because that debt is invested in the military, not the economy that you and I get to play around in. His conflicts of interest would have Americans screaming “TYRANNY!” if he were shoved into power in any other nation. His business plan is that there is no business plan. His tax plan is that those of us who pay them are losers. I get it, the economy is gonna suck, but the economy already sucked, neither him nor Hillary, and neither Republicans nor Democrats will do fuck all to fix it. The fact that Trump is going into office and the Republicans are going to have control of Congress changes very little in that regard. There are a select few people in Washington that truly care about the small guy, and the most prominently featured of them is a 75 year old Jewish guy. Take that, stereotypes.

Congress has the say so for wars? Holy hell, congratulations. You've identified what is technically the letter of the law. In practice in reality -- something I encourage you to become acquainted with -- the President can direct military efforts anywhere they damn well please at a moment's notice. This is obvious. You know this already. Get your head out of your ass.

You think Taiwan is a country? Congratulations, you have joined an exclusive club of 22 nations in the world that recognize Taiwan as a sovereign country. That's right, 22. Most of the world still considers it part of China. Maybe if you knew anything about anything you would know that?

wait... you mean like the Trump dossier from Russia? because if so I reallllly don't want to open that can of beans.

"Which women’s rights am I concerned about? I like to start off with the right to not be sexually assaulted. That’s pretty crucial."

he's not going to legalize rape... i assure you that. or do you want MORE POLICING in high-crime areas where rapes predominantly occur? I AGREE!

"Likewise, you forget who the VP is and who Congress is - contraceptive access,"

this is a fancy way of saying "free birth control" hahaha I'm not paying so you can feel safer when having sex. If you want the government out of your bodies, THEN STOP DEMANDING IT IN OTHER WAYS.

"prenatal care,"

the only way Republicans are against THIS, is they're trying to get the ACA removed. It's already collapsing and hurting the entire healthcare industry, and yes removing the ACA won't be pleasant, but keeping it is just going to lower quality of overall care, massively increase debt, and costs are just going to keep skyrocketing. I've posted plenty of economic proofs against socialized healthcare, if you want me to repost, just say the word, and I will.

"access to organizations like Planned Parenthood"

they don't like abortions, but yeah the way they've gone about it during Obama's presidency has been slimy and despicable. demanding the mother see the ultrasound before... god that's bad.

"and access to alternate sex ed besides abstinence are all at risk."

actually this is still fairly well reserved to the states, but for the sake of argument i'll give you this one. that said, Trump himself is more liberal on this than congress

"“when has Trump been anti-LGBT in what he's proposed”

Two words: Mike Pence."

Mike Pence is only there as an assassination deterrent.

"“just because someone's xenophobic, doesn't mean a wall is a bad idea.”

bo, my uncle, (hypothetically my next-door neighbors but i'll never say anything officially on them because i love them and don't want them deported) and even my liberal econ teacher have all walked across the border before. the fence doesn't cover everything, and also it's a shitty fence.

i hate the poor working conditions most illegal immigrants (and undocumented workers) get, but that's why we need an easier pathway to citizenship. Overall i agree that they're not a problem, but the wall you're worried about? 25 billion dollars is the estimate. the F-35 is a 1.45 TRILLION DOLLAR JET THAT DOESNT WORK. the government wastes TONS MORE MONEY. This might have somewhat of an impact though

"Regarding education policy, go check out Secretary DeVos’ (ugh) hearing. It would be funny, if it didn’t matter so much. Likewise, Mr. Trump (not POTUS yet, fuck off) kinda got sued for funding a fake university. Nbd."

i'll admit i'm not the biggest fan of Trump here, but Obama has been extremely shit as well. doesn't justify him being bad, but it's not a SUDDEN CHANGE, whereas our economy can't afford another collapse.

"Environmental policy? Yeah, don’t get me started. Oklahomans should get it, but most of yall don’t, judging by, well, everything."

i think we're on aggregate agreed here.

"An out of control national debt is a big deal that Trump is going to give zero shits about. I don’t mind that, honestly, because that debt is invested in the military, not the economy that you and I get to play around in. the economy is in recovery mode, if we don't have self sustainable infrastructure and industries separate from government support before another collapse, we're in deep deep shit. 40% stock market crash last time out, I'd reckon we could beat it under Trump

It's still my #1

since vietnam, NAME THE WAR. TELL ME. Iraq? Persian Gulf? Where? Where was the PRESIDENT ALONE gone nuts???

"In practice in reality -- something I encourage you to become acquainted with -- the President can direct military efforts anywhere they damn well please at a moment's notice."

wow. our conflicts in the middle east have been a disaster... Obama's use of drones and practical MURDERING of people is why many people HATE him. Now since Trump is in charge, the media isn't going to let A SINGLE thing go unnoticed. also to "anywhere the damn well please"

hahahaha no. right now, we generally do have free reign against the guys being overrun by terrorist regimes and also the ones that want to see even last Jew in Israel murdered.

"This is obvious. You know this already. Get your head out of your ass."

OOOOOH HE GOT ME.

amazing banter.

truly.

"You think Taiwan is a country? Congratulations, you have joined an exclusive club of 22 nations in the world that recognize Taiwan as a sovereign country. That's right, 22."

Yeah, and look up who's buddy buddy with Palestine. I don't like appeals to authority, I like my own thoughts. Its people like you who would have supported keeping the Irish under Britain's thumb, THE FREEDOM OF A STATE is the most important thing for me. no subjugation, no oppression, no colonialism.

"Most of the world still considers it part of China. Maybe if you knew anything about anything you would know that?"

maybe if China weren't jailing their own people without due process, keeping much of the populous in slave like labor, and polluting their air with record numbers of contaminants, maybe then i'd give a SINGLE SHIT about what China considers theirs.

"Please stop responding."

no thanks
