vDiplomacy Features
I have just started playing Diplomacy at vDiplomacy, and I must say I have been pleasantly surprised by a number of vDiplomacy innovations that don't appear to be available on webdiplomacy. Are there plans to introduce some of the same features here?

Everyone knows that where vDiplomacy excels is the number of variants. What I did not realize is that it also excels with its game interface. So much so that when it comes to *mechanics* of play, vDiplomacy must surely be the best Diplomacy site on the net right now.

For me these are the killer features:
1. Point and click interface. The great thing is the user can choose between point and click and the old style drop down boxes. Personally I like to use both.
2. You can check your moves on the map. After you enter your moves you can click a button which then displays the map, with the relevant territories highlighted and the corresponding order arrows. This makes it much it easier to check if you have entered your moves correctly. This is an awesome feature.
3. You can toggle the order arrows on and off. This is cool too. It helps put the previous phase out of your mind and focus on the next set of orders.

Since the code is open source, I presume it is okay to use vDiplomacys code. Are there plans to introduce the same features here?

* Obviously webdiplomacy has more players and a higher standard of play so it remain the best site overall, but VDiplomacy wins when it comes to the interface, IMHO. I haven't played here again yet, so if webdiplomacy already has these features then forget everything I just wrote, but this would not appear to be the case.

Only the first one of those features isn't here.

That's great to hear. I had a look at some of my old games on this site and I couldn't see a toggle button for the order arrows.

I used to be a regular here, but its been a few years since I had played, until recently introducing a friend to Diplomacy... I thought two player variant Classic France vs Austria might be a good place to introduce someone to the game.

The best feature for me is number 2 on my list. I can be seriously dyslexic when it comes to entering and then checking my moves. Being able to see a graphical representation of entered moves is a big help. Now that I h ave had a taste of it, I would really miss it, if it wasn't there.

So when and where did number 2 originate. Did it start out here and then to vDiplomacy or the other way around.

How about point and click. Any plans to introduce it here?

Toggle for the order arrows is in your settings page here, not on the game page. Not quite as convenient IMO but still works the same way.

Preview is the little button with the tick under the map. It started out on vDip and ATC implemented it here later on.

Point and Click was Tobi1's pet project that Oli put onto vDip. I don't know if there are any plans to implement it here, but if the code's neat I'm sure ATC wouldn't have any objections.

We also had many discussions on the mod team about putting a few more variants on the site, and FvA 1v1 came up very often. It never actually got implemented but if people want it on webDip it would be good to post saying so, so that the Dev team knows there's interest in it.
I've tried the point and click interfaces, and I've always found to prefer the drop down menus.
The move arrows toggle feature on vdip is nice, but not essential.
I do agree that the orders preview feature is great. It's been a feature on Webdip for a little over a year as well.

I would love a 1v1, and also if there was a way to create maps that would be really cool because I have some map ideas.
The best way to draw and play your own maps is usually F2F. If you have coding knowledge, vdip might be able to host your maps.

It's also possible to make your variants for Realpoltik, one of the desktop adjudicators, but the specifics of that are beyond me. Unlike making it for vdip, it would also allow you to instantly start testing the gameplay of it as well.

That said here's the guide for it. I'm sure I could make heads and tails of it if I sat down, but I don't really have the drive to.

It's probably a good thing that there are two phpdiplomacy sites, one primarily for the classic game and one for the variants. If webdiplomacy had all the variants then there would be less of a reason for vDiplomacy, and then we might not have had the benefit of some of vDiplomacy's innovations.

Take point and click. I wasn't a big fan of playdiplomacy's point and click interface when I tried it out a few years ago. Thus if someone had suggested implementing point and click here, I probably would not have been keen, initially. But now that I have seen the way it has been implemented at vDiplomacy, I have been converted (and of course at vDiplomacy has kept the drop down boxes, so users can take their pick).

Two sites means potentially twice as much innovation (provided both sites share code with each other).

Just as long as drop boxes are always an option. Point and click on mobile is pure and utter hell.

I agree. Drop downs are best for mobile.

Actually I suppose this is as good a place as any to ask, why is Colonial on the disabled list? It was actually a commercial variant at one point wasn't it? More official than some of the variants actually used it seems. I'm assuming it must have had some sort of serious design issues or something?

Points in play calculation
All,

I have read the FAQ, but it seems to state that your points in play are the sum of point that you *bet*. Mine seem to exceed that, but may be correct if they are the "current value" rather than the "bet." I could do some tedious counting, but I imagine that most of the people here know, so please pardon the "lazy ask" of someone new to this site, but a long-term Dip player.

Anyone here tried Subterfuge?
Its an iOS/Droid game similar to Neptune's Pride somewhat. Slow Realtime where movement takes hours to days to resolve, no RNG, and based on the Diplomacy tradition of deception and alliances. The key difference to Pride is a toroidal map and a different win condition. Anyone else given it a go?

Simple rule question I'm unsure of.
Country 1: A sup B move C; B move C;
Country 2: C sup D move A; D move A;
My thinking is everyone bounces because both supports are broken. Is that right?

When does a draw occur? As soon as all players vote for draw...or when all players have voted for draw and the next turn is adjudicated? I ask because I am in a game where the draw votes are hidden.

spectating games
Is there a way to see the global chat in a game your not in? it wouldn't make it so that you could tell someone something they wouldn't have known otherwise like showing private messages would do. I'm just wondering if there is a specific reason why you can't.
