The Scottish Play: Independence for the Scots?

I'm nowhere near well enough informed to comment on whether or not that's a good idea, culturally, financially, or otherwise, so I defer to the British WebDippers--what do you think about this, yea or nay, and are you worried they'll take 12th Doctor with them if they do? Contributing to WebDip is apparently bad
I've made a lot of games his last year and a user named 'vinnylanazzo' joined a lot of them. 'Yanik is back' 'Age of empires' and 'cats' games. Now I got suspected of metagaming so should I just not make games?

You've been back for 20 minutes, haven't even bothered to take the moderator message off your profile, and are already ranting? Maybe you should thank the guy who spent the last two days digging into your appeal and thank him for being really nice to you through the whole thing.

Make new games, take over CD positions, take back what is left of your old games, do whatever, just don't break rules. If you have any more to say on the matter, do it in the email.
Attavior (1677 D)

Vinnylanazzo only (finished) 6 games total, and left 1, so I don't think it's because he joined a (couple) games of yours.

So it was an incorrect ban? That sucks. Hopefully too many games (and James' stats) didn't get screwed up over it.
JamesYanik (548 D)
13 Sep 14 UTC
I lost my first ever win due to my ban, 2 SCs away as Austria, secondly the only people I had contact with we're Zultar and Damian

Still, my question stands, am I supposed to just not make so many games? Or what?

@James

I took your CD position and have emailed to mods to put you back in as Austria. The game's all but done and I sure don't deserve the solo for it. Nicely done.

You were allowed to return on appeal. It wasn't an "incorrect ban"; it was revoked. You offered Damian a quick thanks for his work on your case but you should recognize that if it wasn't for his work on your appeal, you wouldn't be granted another chance on our site. Please don't be so callous about it on the forum. Most site moderator teams wouldn't have even given your case a second thought let alone given you another opportunity to prove that you can play by the rules. Many of us here are playing on a second chance, myself included, and as a collective group I'm pretty sure we're more thankful and appreciative of the effort that was put into our individual case files than you are right now.

Yeah, it was a little ambiguous. I read it over but I wasn't involved. Damian took the appeal.

Here is what happened:
Last year my friend showe me diplomacy and I started to play. Before class we would compare games and talk strategy but would NEVER meta game without a private match. Around this time I made a lot of games (yanik is back, age of empires, tons of cats games) as it just so happens he joined a few of them without my knowledge. Later while talking about some games I realized that he had been in a few of mine. As it turns out he was Kenya in one and I was Libya an he had betrayed me. This to flagged as meta gaming but they let it go. Now I have been accused of metagaming with a random person who I have never met and each time it was the SAME THING. I like to make a lot of games because to many times I look at public, joinable games in the search and I don't see many results. I try to help but it was has bitten me in the butt twice now so I say again. WHAT SHOULD I DO??? :/
JamesYanik (548 D)
13 Sep 14 UTC
This isn't a sarcastic question what should I do with my games???

James, if you are concerned with how to avoid metagaming, I'd be happy to talk to you about it. Send me a PM
JamesYanik (548 D)

It is more than just metagaming but it's me playing with people who happen to coincidently join my multitude of games

How does it make a difference if you made the game or joined a game already created? Your random "buddy" could have joined you in any game you already were in, whether you created it or not doesn't matter, the creator of each game is always unknown

Just as bo_sox48 said . . . .

"Make new games, take over CD positions, take back what is left of your old games, do whatever, just don't break rules."

It was a misunderstanding that got cleared up so I won't worry about.

I think you should being with creating another "yanik is back" !!! lol

I'm confused - so was James breaking rules or not? The ban being revoked/overturned makes it seem like it was indeed an incorrect ban - are you saying it was not, and we have a cheater in our midst?
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
14 Sep 14 UTC
@Chaqa, there are dozens and dozens of members on the site who have cheated and then been given a 2nd chance. Most of them choose to take a 2nd chance without complaining in the forum. I banned him originally and can assure you this was not a mistaken ban. Normally I wouldn't give out any details on it, but I take members posting claims about their cases on the forum as giving consent for us to do the same to make sure no one gets an incorrect story.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))

Alright.
civwarbuff (305 D)

@jmo- To be fair though, there is nothing more offensive nor degrading than being accused of cheating in a situation that doesn't necessarily warrant such a statement. I for example may fall into a category of people that you classify as having "cheated and then been given a 2nd chance," as I was cited for a rules violation that I was entirely unaware of, the other user entering a game (an anonymous game) and I wasn't even aware that they had until I was emailed by a moderator.

While I am glad and grateful that the punishment was ultimately very lenient, I will never acknowledge that I was ever involved in any semblance of cheating or ever will be involved in any semblance of cheating or collusion against the spirit of the game e.t.c.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
14 Sep 14 UTC
@civwarbuff, I didn't say or imply that everyone who has been given a 2nd chance on the site was originally cheating. What I said was that there are dozens of users who have cheated who have been given 2nd chances. People who violate the rules without cheating are more likely to get another chance since no games were affected by the rule violations. Which seems to be your situation, that isn't what happened here. Games are being cancelled due to the situation with this member and the large number of other members at the school involved who have been banned.

James, assuming that the point of this thread actually is to just get ideas on what to do to avoid people you could go to vdip and use the features there or make a password protected game for good players and have it be anonymous.

This was not a mistaken ban I read from Jumbo so James you have been convicted of cheating ..... that is not an allegation.
Let's hear your plea for ignorance, sorry I mean innocence.
Sounds like your school is full of cheaters also, where do you live Tiger?
TrPrado (461 D)
14 Sep 14 UTC
Because of that, I feel the need to speak up. I'm the person who introduced him to diplomacy. I'd also like to correct something about what he said. I joined the age of empires games, and there was the one where I was Kenya whilst he was Libya. It was at that point that I was contacted by mods, and made sure I didn't join another public game with him. I haven't been in any of the Yanik is back games or cats games. I'm not a cheater, Nigee, thanks.
TrPrado (461 D)
14 Sep 14 UTC
Also, the only non-anon game I've been in was a private game, so there's that.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
14 Sep 14 UTC
@TrPrado, I am not sure why you think you're connected to his case. You're not though, and I don't see you mentioned in Nigee's post. His post was accurate though. There were multiple people from the same school, maybe it is a business (I assume school because it's generally the only place you find enough immature people to come cheat on a site) who were involved in various forms of cheating.
TrPrado (461 D)
14 Sep 14 UTC
I feel that way because I was recently contacted about "suspicious behavior" that wasn't even my own. I asked what I was doing that was suspicious, and I got a response a few days later that was basically "thanks for responding to the email. Remember not to meta game." I go to James's school (something I admitted to the mods when originally contacted some time ago, and, in fact, I'm the only person from our school that James mentioned in this thread), and was therefore implied by Nigee to be a cheater. It's also definitely not a business. I honestly prefer private matches. We are all just AP students (not really the most rule-breaky crowd you can find) who want to play diplomacy. On this site, strategy takes precedence over real life friendship. Therefore, I only ally with anyone ever out of pure convenience. Also, James is also a bit reluctant to join an alliance with me looking at my track record of destroying him in almost any circumstance. I'm not sure anyone at my school (that I know and associate with) would knowingly cheat.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
14 Sep 14 UTC
As I said, his case wasn't related to yours. I cannot give out the details as it's his case and we don't give out private information, but sorry you got that impression. Everyone in that group (including you) got a reminder about our metagaming rule since it was clear from some of the cheating occurring that some members of the group hadn't read it. I believe you had a separate case some time ago, during which any of our concerns about your activity were alleviated. If you are still concerned about how we're viewing your activity shoot us an email and we can go over the details.

Is there interest in a REAL tournament on this site?
Looking at having a real cash buy-in. First, second and third places receive a cash prize, proceeds go to the site. Additional prizes for best country, and a few other notables (best stab, etc.). Maybe getting the site to put an emblem on your profile page (after all, we're paying money) for awards earned.

Most supply centers in a single turn?
So recently, I was in a game where I was able to convince someone to give me his 3 home centers, another center, and support me to 3 centers occupied by other nations in a single turn, all so that he would survive the game. I went from 11 centers to 18 all in one turn. Do I was curious, what's the most supply centers everyone has captured in a turn. It would be difficult to do more than 9 I think, but I guess not impossible?

What has The Internet done to Education?
I don’t have kids, and I was just about out of college when the Internet struck (collecting my first paychecks elsewhere as Netscape went public in 1995), so I have never had any experience with what The Internet has done to education. Do students bother learning facts anymore? Is Google everyone’s external brain? Does anyone know anything? Is everyone a plagiarist? What gives?
