In my defence, it's almost 11 o'clock here and it was a surprisingly tiring day and I was about to turn off my phone..

22/7 is closer to Pi than 3.14 though, so I'd say 22/7 wins.

Unless it is 3.14 at 1:59 in the morning.

Various civilizations used approximations for pi before we found its true value, and 22/7 was one of the closest we had for a very long time. Other approximations include the integer 3, 3.14, and other fractions that are closer than 22/7

Also, America is one of the few countries that put the month first and then the day. Most of the rest of the world goes Day, Month, Year in a progressively larger time frame sequence.

Also, I do believe that we Americans were the first to celebrate "pi day".

It's all arbitrary, and I don't think Tru Ninja was arguing that one arbitrary method is better than another. That would be silly.

That really depends where in "the computer world" you are. For example, the linux "date" command has the default format MMDDhhmm[CC,YY][.ss] .

The only legitimate way of measuring time is counting the seconds since 1969.

Well, system time is stored as a float where the integer is the date and the decimal is the time. But I was referring to data interchange standards which embed them in YYYYMMDDHHMMSSmmm within an XML stream.

but yes, it's all arbitrary. As long as us mathematicians have two special dates throughout the year, we're good. The other one being May 4th.
