http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=116012

England nmr'd on the first year, austria never showed all together, turkey and russia left mid way through and germany and england when he showed were fighting the whole way through. It is my 1st solo ever, but i would have liked to get it fair and sqaure. Can i really say its my first win?

EoG - Rule the World - 18 Don't Try it on a Cell Phone...
gameID=108452 Oz Wins! (@SweetWaterSam - sweet handle).
Always played Classic, but saw an open seat for a 24 hour gunboat, and figured I would give it a try. I play mostly on my cell during stolen moments, and World Map kicks your ass on an itty bitty screen...

Yes. Austria fought you valiantly and did as much as he could to survive, keeping you from reaching a 17-17 stalemate in typical G/T fashion. Kudos to him. Russia's actions didn't significantly change what would have happened.

Maybe terry32smith and Jefe could spread a little ray of sunshine on the game, it is interesting so worth an explanation.
What was going on in your head Jefe, I see you have 3 D, that makes sense.
It seems you didn't help the matter either Nigee, with that sev - mos in the last turn. I only took a look at the last turn though, you probably had some reasons to do that...
Not to mention how you used your Nwg fleet on the same turn.

Seems straight forward enough, Russia knew he couldn't win a few turns from the end so wanted "in" on the draw. He succeeded, kudos to him. What else could he have done?
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
23 Apr 13 UTC
I don't think Russia got a DRAW, I think he got a defeat.
I was more interested in that fact that Russia only ever had 5 SCs because once he got Scandinavia he just stopped all activity in the North. Then near the end he actually moved out of the the way so Germany could take his SCs, he even supported Germany into Norway (which was his own SC) so that Germany was guaranteed the SC, when do you support an enemy into your own SC in a gunboat ?? Why wouldn't you try and bounce the other player? In the end Germany solo'ed because Russia gave him 4 of his 5 SCs, if you don't believe me check it out.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

SplitD, in this game Russia did not attack Germany once, not even by accident. Is that some kind of a record ??
I saw it Nigee,he did all that, maybe he was angry, maybe stupid, maybe something else but as I said you joined him in the end and gave Germany the two remained SC-s.
It's not easy for Turkey to prevent the E/F or G solo when he needs A/R or I to be included in the draw. In the case you need to give up on Sevastopol or Serbia or something like that because Russia and Austria need more units to reach the stalemate line and your units in Black Sea,Sevastopol and Serbia are useless for the matter. Turkey needs to sacrifice his units in the case.

He may have been angry, I put up the EOG so hopefully he can share his logic because I am genuinely interested in why any player would do this. His strategy of non-attack of Germany sort of negates gunboat logic and this was from Year 1, by the end maybe he just wanted to end the game but he never made an attempt to gain more SCs apart from attacking Sevastopol. This is a player that has been a member since 8th October 2007 and has played 395 games, a pretty experienced player. Jefe what you got to say about the strategy?
That's what makes his actions even more confusing.....
...and you defended Sevastopol the whole time, even when Germany reached 14,before he attacked Sweden.Till then Russia was protecting Sweden but then he was just sick of you and decided to throw the game to Germany.Nothing strange about it,I believe.
Yes,that was from year 1,the same as from year 1 you have been in Sevastopol. What you expect from Russia if you are in Sevastopol from year 1?
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

SplitD - Germany was taking Russian units not by force but unopposed with single units, in one case Russia supported Germany in to take Norway, his own SC.
Russia was not trying to form a stalemate line ..... it looks like he is just trying to move out of Germanys way ...... I'm sure he's got fabulous reasons for doing so. It is probably a part of some long-term master strategy that my limited brain power cannot comprehend.
Why don't you understand it's perfectly logic not to attack Germany the whole game as Russia. And he wasn't "attacking" Sevastopol ever,Sevastopol is his homeland SC.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
23 Apr 13 UTC
If you understand it then it must be Ok :-)
It just looked very strange to me ......
No,honestly,it makes perfectly sense. I maybe wouldn't do the same but not much differently. I can't count on Turkey who moves to Armenia in spring '01,then takes Sevastopol, after he defends Sevastopol, attacks Austria,Italy and the whole world. First eight years Russia and Germany did perfectly well, maybe he should have taken Denmark (year 8 or 9) when it became clear Germany would have soloed but at that point he just wanted you to lose,I believe.

23 Apr 13 UTC
SplitD, do you or would you ever do that?
i.e. Lose the game on purpose by assisting a solo rather than play for the DRAW?
Did you play for a draw? Take a look at your spring '08 moves when Germany is on 11 and after Austria moved all his units away from you and Russia just defends Rumania, holds in Warsaw and defends Sweden. What you do at that point? Was that a clever move?
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
23 Apr 13 UTC
I've got no issue with Germany winning, actually in Spring 08 Germany actually NMR'ed so I guess I was a bit more proactive in the game than him then and was still in attack mode.
I thought I had more time in the game to work a DRAW because I assumed Russia would carry on playing and this would have delayed Germanys progress.
It's a very pyrrhic victory if you only win because someone effectively stops trying to progress/compete ...... I'm sure you've seen this a few times yourself.
It's a complete gift if they start supporting you in to take their SCs :-)
At that point you just needed to defend Sevastopol and Serbia and moved ion - tys, alb - ion and wme supp por - mao. And Germany wouldn't have soloed ever. But you thought Russia,Austria and France would fight Germany while you would drive the solo. Didn't you?
Why you think Russia should stop Germany as you got no issue with his solo? You look at the board from the perspective of the power you play only. That's why you don't understand Russian's actions.

I have had a response from Jefe. I see the words but still don't really understand the logic. This doesn't happen every game, how often in a gunboat does a player support his opponent into taking his own unit?
I'm still interested in terrysmiths take on the game

Jefe:
"Hi NigeeBaby,
I did end up ceding the game to Germany, but not because I wanted that outcome. I also did not want to be wiped out. I like to survive, and not be defeated. In my estimation, if I tried to fight tooth-and-nail against Germany and yourself in Turkey, I would have been eliminated. So I tried to do a retreat, even with supports so Germany would see my strategy. As it turned out, I realized I also switched to that strategy too late. In the very last turn, you and Germany could have wiped me out. I was hoping Germany would see what I was doing and hold off taking one of my last SCs. You were the one that had a focus elsewhere, so I survived. I don't know what you might think of that strategy or logic, but it accomplished my goals of surviving and holding you back as my primary opponent. Your gameplay was fair and good. I hope that helped. I look forward to seeing you again as friend or foe. :)"

I hope next time he's my friend, we all could do with that kind of help in a gunboat.

What happened?
gameID=115641
Germany. For Autumn '01, I moved F(Den)-NOR, and no units supported hold in the North Sea. From my understanding of the rules, England's moves F(NOR) C A(Yor)-Nor and A(Yor)-Nor should not have succeeded. And yet, the move worked. What happened? Thanks for explaining.

A move didn't seem to work?
Hey guys, I gave a support order in a turn that just went, and I can't figure out why it didn't work?

I supported another players unit into a third players territory. The third player had one unit in the territory and it did not have any support. However my support was cancelled for some reason. Who do I talk to about looking at the game in question and finding out what went wrong? Cheers
