Did Cameron do this on purpose?
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/28/cameron-eu-juncker-defeat-britain-exit

His foreign policy is a total shambles but maybe he did this on purpose to accelerate the Brexit. It takes great strategic planning to bungle something this badly.

Could someone explain to me how to get the derivative of:
(3x^2+6x)/(2x^3+2)^5
So [(3x^2+6x)/(2x^3+2)^5]'=.....
I've missed quite some math classes lately and I need to know how to solve this type of thing (and other things but anyway) for a test tomorrow. I could probably figure it out myself eventually, but I just don't have the time and I have quite a bit more to go through.
Would someone be willing to show me the steps I should take?

Of Kurds and Caliphates
http://news.yahoo.com/netanyahu-calls-jordan-support-kurdish-autonomy-214846630.html The ISIS today declared itself to be an Islamic State...and we'll see how long that lasts, or where that goes...meanwhile, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyau called for support for the Jordanians (gee, I can't imagine why) and independence for Iraq's Kurds. Which is a more likely state to be recognized/come into being/"stick," a Kurdistan (if you will) or this ISIS caliphate? Thoughts?

B.J. Upton powers Braves past Phillies 3-2
Gerald Laird had two hits with a double and RBI for the Braves, who won for the sixth time in seven games though ending their road trip 8-3. Atlanta avenged a three-game sweep by Philadelphia June 16-18 at Turner Field.

Question for the mods:
I note we have some newish stats, like reliability rating. Ilove the idea of this. Is there some way we can set up games with a minimum reliability rating threshhold for participants? That would be a really nice way to filter out the people who join live games and then immediately quit the moment the game does not work out for them.

So when does MIV begin?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

You could either forbid everyone from revealing their role or don't, but that takes away the ability to claim when you're threatened. Not a big deal, but regardless, you can't just pin the SK down while letting doctor and cop and whatever other roles you guys add reveal themselves.
uclabb (589 D)
26 Jun 14 UTC
Whenever you have 3 teams and rational players, it's going to become a 2 v 1 at some point- it's unavoidable. I have no problem with what PE did, but I do agree that the role is not a great one.

Well, it was really interesting reading that thread, YJ. Funny that you were laughing at how I was overthinking. You're absolutely right -- I have to analyze things down to the ground, and few things are obvious once you start seriously considering all the ways an argument could be wrong.

Great that the better argument worked here, though.

I was reasonably sure you would not ultimately believe me, but I still had to stack the deck in my favor and scratch out every inch of advantage I could.
Squigs44 (273 D)
26 Jun 14 UTC
Thanks ghug and Semck for winning us that game. Since there was a whole bunch of claims for who got PE to confess, and WD lynched and whatnot, can I claim PJ's downfall?? I think that if I was not on vacation then I may have been able to defend myself better and make the vote between YJ and I a lot closer (it was already really close). I did play very reserved in this game though, and dont blame any of you for voting me out. YJ was very sneaky, and had me fooled this whole time.
semck83 (229 D(B))
26 Jun 14 UTC
I always thought you were one of the clearest and most useful townies, Squigs, and I was really annoyed by your bw. I joined it only because I had to be gone and I didn't want any chance of a tie.

semck83 (229 D(B))
27 Jun 14 UTC
Bo, I had already suspected Dr. O, and then once you kind of gave up the ghost, I thought your actions around PJM's death were incredibly scummy, talking about being "outted by both sides."
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
27 Jun 14 UTC
@bo I just took advantage of your complete lack of apparent interest in actually contributing, and paired it with the Dr. O reads we all had earlier. You were never going to outlast me unless you started to add serious contributions from the start.

I didn't even have to try to get you lynched, everybody else had already voted to before I even checked in.

Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

I was hoping that I would have found occasion to use my "fake doc-claim" that I was thinking about (admittedly terrible idea) because after the real doc flipped, PE would still need lynching, and I could then spend the next two full game days spamming the thread with excerpts from my manuscripts and ridiculing everything anybody said.

It would have been glorious.

were you like me and thought that sirrus was by far the awesomest character in that game? dude was cunning as all hell.
semck83 (229 D(B))

He was. It's been awhile, so I don't remember for sure, but I do think that was my sense. I did end the game right, though.
semck83 (229 D(B))
27 Jun 14 UTC
FWIW, by the way, I don't consider your actual "scumslip" that serious. It registered slightly on my near-subconscious at the time, and I just made the obvious interpretation that you were talking IF I were chosen, and/or using generalized you.
ghug (5068 D(B))

"In other news, I just had a very talented undergrad and a successful grad student both write more for me over the past two days than they probably wrote for their professors all term long."

I have a 20 page Google Doc of posts I prewrote over the course of the game, and that's not even including most of the final day.

I think you have to inform any potential employer that you were a ruthless murderer at one point, even if it was two hundred years ago and you've since been caught and killed. Good luck though.

I tried to bury that detail in my curriculum vitae, but I guess if he looks hard enough he'll see it.
I was one (admittedly very unlikely) mislynch away from taking numerical control of the game. I was also a very likely D2 lynch. I got far closer to my wincon by claiming -- why would we ban a legitimate tactic?

"I was hoping that I would have found occasion to use my "fake doc-claim" that I was thinking about (admittedly terrible idea) because after the real doc flipped, PE would still need lynching, and I could then spend the next two full game days spamming the thread with excerpts from my manuscripts and ridiculing everything anybody said."

I wish this would've happened lmao

By the way, I for one do support ghug for town MVP. I have a more direct perspective than most on it, but his posts in the closing days were superb, and essentially left no intellectual room for me to vote for him, even though that was my predisposition.

I think he was also a very strong player in the early game -- Maniac and uclabb were too. Squigs was a really useful player to the town, in my opinion, but maybe not quite bold enough with his reads to prevent what happened from him and assure the success of his points of view. Still, I think he's the single person most responsible for the attention PJM received.
semck83 (229 D(B))
27 Jun 14 UTC
A closing note on ghug -- there would of course not have been sufficient material for those posts if he had not played the part of such a thoroughgoing townie all game long. He was able to defend his record because it was an almost perfect record.

Coastal Movement
Normally, when two units make a move to each other's territories, it causes a bounce (Rhur moves to Munich while Munich moves to Rhur). However, would coasts be treated as different territories for fleets? For example, could a fleet in Spain (nc) move to MAO while another fleet in MAO moved to Spain (sc)? Same with Bulgarian coasts and Constantinople. Thanks in advance!

OK, sorry for the delay...and the continued delay--we'll start Midnight tonight. ORWELL! DICKENS! POE! TOLKIEN! Who will advance?

And a bonus question, just for schnicks and giggles--what's the first book you read after high school (or, if it was a while ago, the earliest book you can remember reading after high school?) Just curious to see what we get.
