The Ancient Med - not year 1
What year is the Ancient Mediterranean set? Definitely not year 1AD, by then the Med was a Roman Lake. Carthage was destroyed in 146BC, Egypt fell to Rome in 47BC, Greece had been Roman for centuries. Only Persia can claim some independence on that map.

My friend is 58. He was 20, and his daughter was 19 and his grand daughter is 19. All got married to high school sweathearts. But even at 47, I have a nephew been married for two years and a niece who gets married this Memorial Day weekend.

There's a difference between a niece or nephew getting married and having a great grand child. But damn your friend and his kids got started young.

I've had one half-assed relationship by 17... I guarantee you it's not typical for someone to go off on their own at 19. My parents have repeatedly told me it won't be till at least 25 for me. My sister is 19 now and she isn't even close.

Case in point, there are probably plenty of OWL's out there that can attest to the older to a much greater degree...

I was 20 when Mr. CF and I got together. So it does happen when younger too.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Well yeah, it does happen, but it's certainly uncommon now, and probably less common now than it used to be if I had to guess.

I'm 47 and just celebrated 24 years of marriage. Married before 25 is actually typical.in rural and mid west America. Once again, Bo, your limited world experience shines through.

"Married before 25 is actually typical.in rural and mid west America."

Yeah, I live in rural midwestern America dipshit. Drive three miles north of here and there's no houses for another three miles. That's called rural midwestern America. Give me a break. Married before 25 never even appeared in my post. Married at 19 did. Reading glasses are really cheap, go get a pair.

And uncommon now has jack to do with having grandkids. I'll admit my under 60 friemd is uncommon. But having your first grandchild by 50 is not uncommon because having grand kids now has to do with the typical age of having kids 25 and 50 years ago.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Feb 13 UTC
You said moving out until after 25 at the earliest so, by logical inferment, marriage would be after 25. Try rereading your own post. And again, age moving out/getting married has jack to do with what happened 25 years ago.

My mom was 20 and my dad 21 when they got married. My dad turns 70 next month. It was typical to get married in the service or as soon as one graduated.

I know many young people today under 25 married and having or just hqd their first kids. You and.your 25 before you move out are not typical.

Oh and most guys who join the service or go to college move out on their own at 18.

"moving out until after 25 at the earliest"

I'll be moving out at 18... I don't have any current family plans for the future. The earliest my parents would approve of a marriage according to them is 25.

"age moving out/getting married has jack to do with what happened 25 years ago."

Sure it does. My parents got married at 29. My dad's 51 and has no grandchildren. There's only one grandchild in my family from his generation out of the 9 siblings he had because his parents made sure they didn't marry off too early and get into a bad relationship. A couple of them did.

"It was typical to get married in the service or as soon as one graduated."

It was typical to work at 16-80 in the world my parents and grandparents were raised in. Service was an individual choice.

"I know many young people today under 25 married and having or just hqd their first kids."

So do I. Amazing how many of those relationships aren't lasting.

"You and.your 25 before you move out are not typical."

Once again, didn't say that.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Feb 13 UTC
Actually you did:

" I guarantee you it's not typical for someone to go off on their own at 19. My parents have repeatedly told me it won't be till at least 25 for me"

Pretty clear what you said there and the word marriage was never mentioned.

Finally, your parents are not typical. Typical was go into the service or go to college and get married while there or as soon as you were out at 21 or 22 was typical. Assuming your parents were typical is simply wrong. They weren't.

How old were you when you moved in with your current SO, CF? I know you recently married him after years (???) of living together.
I started dating my wife when I was 16, moved out of my parents' house at 17, moved in with my wife (then girlfriend) at 21, got married at 23. Most of my close friends were married by 25, although I know a lot more people my age who didn't get married until their mid to late 30s.

Draws
Sifting through 10 pages of open positions, I am noticing that it's increasingly uncommon that people actually draw for a CD. In a few games, people have pushed for it, and others have seemed to have no understanding as to why they'd draw for a CD. Did this etiquette just disappear like magic? Pre-1903 CDs should *always* constitute a draw and post-1903 CDs should constitute a draw if they result in a loss of a line that would otherwise be present. When did this stop?
