School Administrators
They can't seem to focus on important issues... instead focusing on things like arbitrary dress code violations and dumb discussions like whether or not history is worth learning about. I guess they think it's not their job to stop drug use or work with kids on their academics. Maybe sex in middle school isn't a problem to them. What gives?

Hypocrisy
Hypocrisy, I think, is one of the worst human traits, because it violates the rules of rhetoric and deceives both the hypocrite and their listener, obstructing reason and acceptance in the way of subversion and blind authority.

Masters Interest
This is just a thread to judge if there is enough interest in the community to start another round of the Masters. Note that this tourney does take more than 40 players to start, and will take 6-8 months to complete. I'm gonna try to keep this to top 200 GR, due to complaints about the quality of the last round.

Hey, glad to see some old faces... MM is till top of the pile though... we'll have to correct this, it's not democratic :)

I've been quite good actually, can't complain. Being a slightly older parent has it's advantages - you enjoy the fun parts with the baby more, while the opportunity cost and sacrifices don't seem so high.

We let him stay there. He gets a little pissy if someone tries to take it from him.
I sent an email to Akroma lol. And jacob, its not too late. Speaking of that, Jacob never got back to me :/
What about dave bishop? He should be involved. You might also try gantz as he is active on vdip and holds a pretty high GR over here. drano also might be worth contacting.
gantz is already signed up, drano hasn't been on here in a long time (as far as I know), and I think I already tried dave bishop
slyster (3934 D)

@Lando: Dave Bishop just started university and he said he wouldn't play any games while at university, so that's a no from him.
akroma says no
So, I've worked my way through it a bit more, and 42 person looks impossible. The plan was - you play everyone once, except for one instance when you play someone twice. 42 games, 42 players, I thought it would work. But that's 42 *instances* of playing someone twice, so you have to count it twice - once for each player. So, working it out, you have to play two people twice, and you neglect playing one player. We gotta get to 49, people. If all our maybes say yes, we just need one more. Hoping to start this up next week

Great - looking forward to it. So 5@ buy in and 24 hour turns Full press? 8 games so kick them off two at a time every two weeks? What are you thinking to do?
I think at the start of this thread, some players voiced a preference for 36- or 48-hour phases, if it`s going to be two games at once. Personally, I do think a phase length of longer than 24 hours is appropriate if we do overlapping games.
@josunice - there will be an initial buy-in fee (i forget what exactly, somewhere between 100-200 D) to fund the prize pot. 48 hour phases, full press, games launch two at a time every month or so, but they will not launch simultaneously (so that you'll be in year 2 of the first game by the time the 2nd game starts)
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
30 Jan 13 UTC
42 total people sounds fine to me, playing one person twice and not playing one person at all is more appealing to me than eight games and repeating a single great power.

So, we're actually going to start one new game every two to three weeks, that sounds reasonable... Any chance of 36 hour phase length, I swore off 48 hour phases after my last one (though that last one may have been more about swearing off redhouse, I can't remember any more!)?

Glad to see you back, Ivo, but please note I've been elected to a four year term, you'll have to wait just a bit for my imminent demise.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

We could still find one more. It's also not a bad plan to pick up some sitters (5 or 6). Look at the leagues; we need it.
josunice (3702 D(S))
30 Jan 13 UTC
I throw my vote in for 36 hours, too, though I prefer 24... What is the prize pot all about?
MKECharlie (2074 D(G))
30 Jan 13 UTC
I'm working on the seeding algorithm as a side project for fun. So even if I don't play, hopefully it'll help.
Blargh...MM making me do more work. I'll see what I can do. But there's 40+ people on this list, so I'll make a final decision when I have more opinions. It will be either 36 or 48 hour phases. Earlier, I believed consensus was 48
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
30 Jan 13 UTC
Yeah, I weigh playing each great power exactly once *far* more heavily than playing each person exactly once. The point of the tournament is to give everyone as fair of a chance in the series of games as possible, and it's pretty clear to me that playing the same person a second time (with 5 others you haven't played yet) is a much more even/fair test of skill than being stuck with Italy twice (while some lucky bastard, likely TheWizard, gets France twice).
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
30 Jan 13 UTC
Sorry, goldfinger, if you need me to volunteer to help out to make up for it, just say the word! :-)

second MadMarx, 42 players and 36 hours. 48 can drag a bit in the late game.
Yonni (136 D(S))
30 Jan 13 UTC
Should we set up some sort of poll for this? I'm firmly in the 48hr camp.
Well, I have the first two rounds set up at least. I'll try to get the rest pushed through tonight.

Here's a poll. Copy/paste and add your answer

Austria issue
I have searched the forum for similar topic, haven't found any. However if the issue was somewhere discussed just delete the thread.

Playing Austria is very difficult in most of the cases. Moreover, players usually tend to play a pattern of "lets kill Austria first." Although you may say it is a natural fate of nations that some are stronger other are weaker, personally I think that in the game Austria should have a more equal chances (...)
