The Ancient Med - not year 1
What year is the Ancient Mediterranean set? Definitely not year 1AD, by then the Med was a Roman Lake. Carthage was destroyed in 146BC, Egypt fell to Rome in 47BC, Greece had been Roman for centuries. Only Persia can claim some independence on that map.

It's my webDip Birthday!
I'm 5 years old and about to play my 100th game! I would like to invite friends, new and old, to play. To be eligible, I'd ask you make a donation to the site (of any amount). WTA 36 Hours non-anon. Express your interest below. And, of course, thanks to Kestas, the mods, and the peanut gallery for making this the best site on the Internet.

17 games, 17 players
Who's in? 17 world gunboats, one game as each nation, 50 hour phases, WTA, anon, ready-up preferred (but no means required), only prearranged pauses (example, if someone insists on a winter break pause, we will ask the mods to unpause at an agreed time if we don't unpause ourselves by then), 5 D bets for a total of 85 D buy-in. Who's in?

Balancing the map
Has anyone tried seeing what would happen if Albania was made into a supply center and Serbia was turned into an ordinary neutral? I would expect stronger wars between A/I and between R/T. Thoughts, please.

Thx - goldfinger, I was looking for a father figure to put their arm around me and protect me from the nasty players. Luckily I found one.

So I take over England in above game for 10 D and straight away everybody draws because the game has been affected by cheaters. And I get 9 D. I try and help out and lose 1 point. Could we raise a petition or something to get the mods to give me my point back?
@maniac - no

Took over France, but was becoming so powerful that Maniac and the rest of the board got scared and NMR'd, forcing me to draw out of a sense of pity.

Took over Italy in a live game, just barely made the Spring 1902 move, so I missed the first year. There was an average of 1 CD per turn for pretty much the first 5 years of the game, and each CD seemed to happen exactly when I really didn't want it to happen :(. @SplitDiplomat, I think you would have had a better shot at the solo if you had left me alone to fuck with France. You could have probably worked out a stab 1 year later that would have left France and the Iberian in complete shambles and up to me to awkwardly save.

All in all though, probably the most enjoyable games I've played never being above 3 units.

Finished another for a threeway draw. This game will live long in the memory. I joined as England in autumn 1904 with 4 SCs. Germany was in NS and EC and France was in Liv. Turkey at that stage had 8SCs.

This game was anonymous and just before being eliminated turkey posted on global that I must be a noob or didn't understand WTA. I won't embarrass stress lines by mentioning his name here.

You can drop me from the standings. I picked up a bunch and finished a bunch, but lost track.
I've completed 5 games, so I have 15 D. I'm in one game, so there are 3 potential points. Nothing funky about that.

Just saw the thread... I've been in CD-replacement mode for at least six months (getting stabbed by Mad Max can do that to you). Will report retroactively to the start of the project, not sure if they count, retroactively.

There are only two completed games that i would have joined post Dec 10:
107936 (won as russia) and 105025 (survived as italy). Deduct 1 point for an NMR.
I'm currently in two anonymous world games, if that counts.

it is a great thing to help out - even greater if you can win or draw :) good job yeb and group!

has anyone noticed that the forum seems to be a bit more civil these days? Or am i just reading it less? :)
VirtualBob (224 D)

@GF ... I think the convention is finished games followed by (in parentheses) total potential, so you should have 15 (18)

Draws
Sifting through 10 pages of open positions, I am noticing that it's increasingly uncommon that people actually draw for a CD. In a few games, people have pushed for it, and others have seemed to have no understanding as to why they'd draw for a CD. Did this etiquette just disappear like magic? Pre-1903 CDs should *always* constitute a draw and post-1903 CDs should constitute a draw if they result in a loss of a line that would otherwise be present. When did this stop?

I just got an email today from Edi Birsan. Allan Calhamer, creator of the board game diplomacy, has passed away. His daughter said her mother "would welcome any memories/stories about Allan or thoughts on what Diplomacy has meant to you."
So please put in thoughts and memories about diplomacy and I'll collect them and send them to her.
