If you assume that Hotness is a Normal distribution (as you should), then a 10 would be around 3σ, which is about 0.1%.

Are you really telling me you're only willing to date someone who looks better than 99.9% of people?

I would consider anything over 1σ to be very attractive, but that's still only about 16% of the population. Are *you* more attractive than 84% of the population? If not, shoot for someone more around μ, in this case a 5 out of 10.

@abge: I don't know crap about statistics lol, so that doesn't help me. But hotness is subjective, it's my opinion, so I don't think it would necessarily follow a 'normal distribution'. Anyway, the fact of the matter is that I find 15% of girls physically attractive. At least at my high school. Maybe my high school has less attractive girls than other high schools, but out of the 300 sophomore girls at my school, I only find about 45 attractive.

Oh, and abge, I'd like to date someone at least an 8. A ten would be nice, but I'd like at least an 8.

I disagree. Physical Attractiveness is almost completely determined by biology. And, the small part that isn't is socially constructed and been jammed down our throats.

I think part of the issue is that you think you deserve an 8 or better, but really, what you want is just a girl that you are attracted to because there's so much more than just looks. You want a gal who'll laugh at your stupid jokes, allow you to play diplomacy, can hold a conversation, have some definable and defendable values, and whose look is +-1 with respect to yours. Yes, looks are mostly subjective, but there have been enough studies that show how the vast majority of us think certain characteristics are attractive.
I guess I am a bit old fashion perhaps but I tend to think about the long run.

In HS, I wasn't going to Internet forums asking advice on how to live my life. If you look through this thread, I think you'll find I've tried very hard to give CM helpful advice and I've done so on many other occasions. If he'd prefer not to have my advice, he can let me know.

He has unrealistic goals and it doesn't do him good to have people make him believe otherwise. He seems reasonably intelligent and I'm not going to beat-around-the-bush with him. It's a waste of both of our time.

@zultar: Yes, I want a girl who I'm attracted to. But there are very few girls out there below an 8 who I'd be attracted to. I'm sure there are some, just as there are a lot of 8s and 9s who I don't want to date because of the way they act.

Yes, I posted that tree thing earlier. What I meant was, if you don't feel comfortable enough with one of them to be able to learn to climb a tree in front of them, I wouldn't consider them good enough friends.

I think it's unrealistic to go from your present state to dating the most attractive girl in school. I don't think it could never happen, but I think you need to take things one step at a time (as I've said before). You need to accomplish little things before you can accomplish big things.

As long as you think you should or deserve to date girls 8 and above, then you are going to be out of luck. The percentages of girls who are 8 and above with a brain and decency and et cetera are, well, small.
