The Ancient Med - not year 1
What year is the Ancient Mediterranean set? Definitely not year 1AD, by then the Med was a Roman Lake. Carthage was destroyed in 146BC, Egypt fell to Rome in 47BC, Greece had been Roman for centuries. Only Persia can claim some independence on that map.

Who's in? 17 world gunboats, one game as each nation, 50 hour phases, WTA, anon, ready-up preferred (but no means required), only prearranged pauses (example, if someone insists on a winter break pause, we will ask the mods to unpause at an agreed time if we don't unpause ourselves by then), 5 D bets for a total of 85 D buy-in. Balancing the map
Has anyone tried seeing what would happen if Albania was made into a supply center and Serbia was turned into an ordinary neutral? I would expect stronger wars between A/I and between R/T. Thoughts, please.

JECE, Tasnica would not have accepted that support. It was offered and he denied it.

Of course he wanted the solo, but in his mind the risk of a draw containing all three parties outweighed the reward of the solo. This was entirely KyleFC's fault.

Congrats hellalt on GB1.

Not my best game, I was Italy and as often seems to be the case in my games as Italy, twa was Austria. My usual strategy of lepanto-to-austrian stab didn't work as well here as R and A worked together marvelously.

A big part of the win was when France got TUN in 1912. I was still in play enough and it allowed him to keep it without contest until he could muster the forces to hold it.

The game then came down to BER, I think Russia would have been better suited to bring one of his armies in Scandinavia down to LIV right away as the only remaining potential stalemate was on this territory. Scandianvia couldn't be stalemated and France recognized this very well and went head-long for BER and it paid off.

This was a very, very well played game by all parties. Glad I could be a part of it.
Very good game indeed. France won Berlin with that brilliant convoy to Livonia... It was obviously there to break Prussia's support of Berlin. I mistakenly assumed they would gamble and use A Munich to break Silesia's support of Berlin as well and I went for Munich... and failed. It's clear I overthought that move a bit and should have just supported Berlin, but oh well. All over now.
Congrats California on the win. I believe its mathematically impossible for them to lose now?

so goldfinger you think I'm from California right? :P
with one game left everything is still possible!

Full Press I gameID=92990 3 way draw (Iberia, California, Capital Region)
Full Press II gameID=97655 won by California
Public Press gameID=93086
Gunboat I gameID=93618 won by Balkans
Gunboat II gameID=94985 3 way draw (Balkans, Iberia, Pacific Northwest)

Table
California 591
Balkans 297.5
Iberia 229
Capital Region 147
Pacific Northwest 81,5
Ontario 13
Texas 3

As far as the gunboat game is concerned I have to say it came really close to a 3 way draw but I ve got 2 consecutive good guesses that opened the way to the solo, the convoy to liv and then the support to mun hold expecting aus to attack with triple support (instead of expecting sil to support hold ber and mun-sil to cut support which would have led to me losing mun and the solo).
thatwasawkward I don't think you overthought the moves. it was gamble indeed and we all tried to get into the opponents brain.
haha nooo, i knew you were Balkans. I just thought the previous post had the updated score, that's all!
Well played, Hellalt. Congrats.

mathematically speaking california balkans and iberia can still win but Balkans and Iberia need a solo in the last game. capital region, pacific northwest, ontario and texas can also get the silver medal depanding on the results of the last game.
spell of wheels, lardo: thanks!
And while the outcome of the game is certainly in flux, I highly doubt a solo is possible in a PP game, let alone this PP game

lol, no they shouldn't it. it should be played to its conclusion for obvious reasons.

Two things:

Firstly, South America is reported to have won the last World Cup with 438.5 D here (when they actually won by 468.5 D):
http://tournaments.webdiplomacy.net/diplomacy-world-cup/world-cup-2010-1

Secondly, when is the information from this edition of the world cup going to get on that website? Who is supposed to be doing that?
Well, first this edition of the World Cup has to conclude before results can be posted.

Draws
Sifting through 10 pages of open positions, I am noticing that it's increasingly uncommon that people actually draw for a CD. In a few games, people have pushed for it, and others have seemed to have no understanding as to why they'd draw for a CD. Did this etiquette just disappear like magic? Pre-1903 CDs should *always* constitute a draw and post-1903 CDs should constitute a draw if they result in a loss of a line that would otherwise be present. When did this stop?

I just got an email today from Edi Birsan. Allan Calhamer, creator of the board game diplomacy, has passed away. His daughter said her mother "would welcome any memories/stories about Allan or thoughts on what Diplomacy has meant to you."
So please put in thoughts and memories about diplomacy and I'll collect them and send them to her.

For the easy payment of 15 D, you can enjoy the chance to rule the
world with The World Wide Schlieffen Plan. ( http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=111246 ) . If you can take 10 minutes out of you day for possible world domination, than this deal is for you. In fact this deal is just to good. I'm gonna have to put a time limit
of 7 days for this. I would wait that long though. there's only 13 spaces
