Webdip points question
If a player abandons/leaves a game and no one takes over their position, is that player still included in draws to end the game? Do they get a split of the webdip points from the game?

Stressed, I've never known anybody from Harvard to be all that snobby about it in public (or in private, really). Heck, most of the students don't even get off campus. Nobody there wears Harvard shirts in public or even talks about their education because it's such a conversation stopper. Are you sure you're not thinking of townies?

@Ogion

"Yep. Pretty standard anti-intellectual bullshit from conservatives."

nowhere was the anti-intellectualism. it was anti-jackassery. the fact that you so easily inflated the two is telling...

"Feel totally insecure in the face of someone smart who knows how to work hard to advance human knowledge? Talk about smugly superior your backwater values are! Works every time"

i don't care how smart someone is compared to me, i care what they do to me, for me, or against me. If you speak like an ass but have an IQ of 180, i think you're an ass. if you want to steal from me but have an IQ of 180, i think you're a thief. notice a trend? morality=/= intelligence. come now Ogion you're smarter than this

"Want to see hupocrisy?"

Like seeing a supposed intellectual spell 'hypocrisy' as 'hupocrisy'?

oh indeed i would ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

"Look for someone using a computer to talk about how stupid scientists are. Yeah."

1. nobody ever made that claim, go home you're drunk

2. don't type "Yeah" after a sentence to make yourself feel good about that sentence. that's pathetic.

"So stupid they invented the thing you're Hsiang that you wouldn't even begin to comprehend how it works."

1. Hsiang

2. now THIS is snobbery. i bet you i could wipe my entire hard drive, install my own recover protocols and be back to normal in the amount of time it'd take you to realize "that new flash player ad is actually a virus"

because Ogion if you want to talk about computers, you're talking to someone who is ten times your better in that field.

"Typical."

typical: generalizing into a strawman argument

"Look down your noses at the people who have made just about everything around you work (and suck down their tax dollars while "serving (yourself)" in the military. Then bob about how "independent" you are and how you don't take handout while pocketing your government check paid for by, you guessed it, a smart educated guys' taxes who actually produces something"

he says, looking down his nose, advocating for massive tax hikes across the board.

"And then bleat about hypocrisy. Yeah, I know the type really well. I've lived in the Midwest, and much of my family is from the south. I know it really really well"

say really THREE times. it gets the point across that you're lying better ;)

"Oh, yeah, that's why so many minorities are leftists and work with leftists. Because they're so racist. Lol. Meanwhile, which party is it again who is all buddy buddy with neonazis and Klansman"

Robert Byrd?

"and talking about how they must have "free speech" rights to threaten everyone else?"

all Americans DO have free speech rights. you're just to triggered to accept that. attack VIOLENT behavior. thought policing makes you come off as... a bit Orwellian

"Funny how those guys weren't insisting on free speech for black lives matters. Oh no.
Yeah, liberals are super duper racist.

You don't even recognizing that all that lying rots your brain"

you specifically, Ogion, are a terrible human being with zero moral compass, who attacks his political opponents with the stunning wit of a middle schooler, the brains of a middle schooler, and the intellectual honesty when addressing someone else's argument of a... well, middle schooler.

You may her gotten a PHD and i'm sure you'll rant about how smart you are in response to this (or probably not now that i've predicted it, in a failed attempt to be clever) but you really need to learn to follow chains of thought.

Already in this thread you MASSIVELY misquoted bo_sox, who's as consistent on climate change as anyone i've met. But he says something which you don't immediately perceive as agreeing with your dogmatic view and you Misquote him. I already called you out for it on the last page, anybody can go see.

So, back on topic, here is something I don't know: how often do four named storms in a row hit major hurricane status? Does one often see three going on at once? Now that Jose (yes, not Juan) is predicted to top 111 on Friday, Irma already looking to break a few more records oerhaps andKatia also possibly to hit major status, that'd be three major hurricanes at once and four in a row. How common is that? Maybe you storm chaser types can enlighten us. (On and also the last time there was a cat 4 east of the leeward islands with stronger winds than Irma)
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
07 Sep 17 UTC
Katia won't hit major. Jose might but also might not. Irma is going to churn up a bunch of cold water (or already has) that will prevent it from being as strong. I expect that it will briefly touch Cat 3, maybe around the same islands that just got basically wiped off the map by Irma, but it won't be able to sustain itself. There is another tropical system east of Jose that will likely become the third hurricane to follow this path but it hasn't even reached naming yet.

In 2009, there were three hurricanes in remarkably similar fashion to these three, lined up in almost the exact same way. In 2005, three major hurricanes made landfall in the US, one being Katrina. In 1998, there were four named storms active at once - 3 hurricanes and a tropical storm - which may be the case here in a couple of days. This sort of behavior during hurricane season isn't unheard of at all.

From a Weather.com article in 2015

In the Atlantic Basin, four simultaneous hurricanes has only happened twice.

Most recently, this occurred September 25-27, 1998. Hurricane Georges was heading toward a Gulf Coast landfall while Hurricanes Ivan, Jeanne (not the Ivan and Jeanne you remember from 2004) and Karl meandered harmlessly in the central Atlantic Ocean

On August 22, 1893, four hurricanes were also active in the Atlantic. One of these was the killer Sea Islands hurricane, which claimed between 1,000 and 2,000 lives in Georgia and South Carolina.

Clearly both of these events were the fault of conservatives, neo Nazis and Donald Trump.

Oh, and since you didn't want to answer, I looked it up myself

In fact, the temperatures throughout Irma's path have been anomalously high (as they largely are world wide).
http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/sst/anomaly/

Keep in mind those are anomalies from going back to 1985 only, so a lot of warming is missing. It is pretty clear that global warming (as in the whole planet is hot. Without warming there would be an equal mix of blues (cooler than historical, and yellows, warmer. There is barely any blue). has made for hot water that gives strength to Irma. In other words, is Irma so very powerful because of climate change? Unequivocally yes

So, no wusti, people who are saying that climate change made this storm much stronger than it otherwise would be are right and people who say the strength of this storm has nothing to do with climate change are wrong

The Mississippi River broke through a protective dike today. What is a protective dike? Is that a large woman standing near the river going "Don't go near there!" "But Betty-" "Don't go near there! Get away from the river! Stay away from there." I know, we can't use the word "dyke." You can't even say "lesbian", it's "women in comfortable shoes." Thank you very much.

Unfortunately it's a good movie, so I can't hate him for that.

Ogion, what source did you read that said Katia would be a major hurricane? You should stop using that source. There has been basically zero chance of that.
Ogion (3882 D)
07 Sep 17 UTC
That would be NOAA. I think I misread.

"Some strengthening is forecast during the next 36 hours and
Katia could be near major hurricane strength at landfall."

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT3+shtml/060844.shtml

SO, NOAA disagrees with you somewhat, but either I misread the forecast, or they've softened the language some.
Ogion (3882 D)
07 Sep 17 UTC
Obviously, "near major" is not "major" and "could be" is not "will be"
Ogion (3882 D)
07 Sep 17 UTC
I note Jose is also now expected to not hit major strength and head into the north atlantic without landfall as well (If I understand right, the smart money was that that was to be expected and that it wouldn't follow Irma) so that's all good.
Ogion (3882 D)
07 Sep 17 UTC
aaaand....
I think we can go with my reading comprehension being a mess today:
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/204055.shtml?cone

Jose is supposed to pop into Cat 3 status for Friday.

I should go back to bed

Its a category 3 with 6-7 foot storm surge. The only reason nobody cares is because its hitting mexico and people are histerical about irma and jose
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
07 Sep 17 UTC
Hard to say what Jose will do. Remember that the models were a couple hundred miles off at this stage for Irma and that the models still aren't perfectly concrete for Irma now, let alone Jose (though the hype train has long since taken off). It theoretically shouldn't follow the cold water Irma churns up, but it could if the waters stay warm enough despite Irma.

Katia should peak as a low, maybe mid-Category 2. Obviously, the word "major" has a different meaning when used unscientifically in that it will still be destructive, but 80-90 MPH sustained wind gusts generally equate to extensive but reparable property damage, not destruction. The real damage from Katia will likely be from rain and flooding.
Ogion (3882 D)
07 Sep 17 UTC
Indeed. One interesting consequence of global warming is that the extended plowing of energy into the oceans is that the waters at depth are quite a bit warmer than they used to be (with all manner of serious consequences for ocean life) which means that churning up waters at depth doesn't bring a cooling as much as it used to
