to 1.: it sounds like worth a try, but, and HR also said so, the timezones will be a very big concern for this tactic.
to 2.: I think a 'default' setting would be ok, but some games want to or need to have a little tweaking for some roles, to make the game more interesting. So as long as GM's are able to change some roles in their setting and the information is given at the start, that XYZ-role works in this game in [that way] and not like in the 'default' setting, it should be ok.
