@Invictus - Roller Blades =/= Roller Skates. Different beast.

Was thee an idea of roller blades (in-line skates) before the 80's? I'm sure there was. That doesn't mean they were on teh market.

If Idea = existed, that Apple is rather boring and passe, because I read plenty of sci-fi
talking about the gadget's Apple eventually put to market that were written long before Apple even existed.

In 1987, an "internet" connection was one of those wired phones dialed up and placed down on a reciever.

Inline roller skates were for off-season hockey players. Don't know why anybody else would use them.
Invictus (240 D)

I know roller blades and roller skates are different. How wasn't I clear that I was surprised it took at least sixty-odd years to come up with roller blades?

As for why anybody else would use them Putin33, they're cooler.

It makes me laugh when silly curmudgeons try to cast aspersions on others regarding topics for which they have no understanding - as if there is no difference between roller blades and roller skates, and they can only have a single purpose. The narrow-mindedness is frightening and pathetic, truly.

X is for Y -- I don't know why anybody else would use them....I'm sooooooo smart, because I read it in the dictionary.

People use X even though it was originally intended for Y because it's fun and they enjoy it, and it solves multiple problems.

For example, using roller blades one can traverse a very large college campus in a very short period of time, navigate the interior of a building to find their seat in a lecture hall, and get back home for the afternoon bong hit without fear of some douche stealing their bike, or getting a flat tire, etc. Plus, it has the benefit of providing physical exercise. Plus, it provided various sorts of thrills as roving gangs of high-as-a-kite college kids travesed the campus in search of shit to jump over and slide down.

But....but....but....they're only for hockey players....you can't do that....

<sigh...>

On the contrary roller blades are cool lol. In Dakar, Senegal there is this really interesting subculture of guys who basically get blazed and ride around on roller blades in traffic doing death-defying stunts. For what it's worth, no one ever hears about them getting hurt, but, you know, it's hard to know. They're a rare phenomenon these days, but I did see one guy doing it while I was there, skating backwards between cars on one skate with his two arms doing a wave thing. He had a huge smile on lol. It was badass.

@Putin

So is that why you had so many interesting things to recommend to me about the DRC a few years ago? You recommended that Jeffrey Herbst book right? I think that was his name, about geographical heritage of African states. Anyway, I agree that New Orleans is the pearl of the Caribbean. It's a very special place. I'm lucky to be here.
Putin33 (111 D)
02 Sep 14 UTC
Yes Jeffrey Herbst, States and Power in Africa.

Boots with wheels are not cool. Neither is falling on your face and trying to get up while wearing boots with wheels.

If you ice skate for a living and don't have access to a rink year round, it makes sense. For normal people, no. Roller skates actually have breaks. Use those.

Good Lord, but the forum has gone down hill recently. Thucy, you make Nigs look like a comic genius.

As an aside, both roller skates and roller blades are uncool and will remain so until I get good at them.

Fuck off.

Lol just kidding. If "kinder" means "downhill" for you, that's on you lol. I intend to treat you all like human beings, from now on. It will have to be a long campaign, because intent is mighty difficult to transmit online. You all have a wrong impression of me, and I am determined to correct it. No more bad blood.

Damn it, but I miss the old days. By now someone should have made a link between prostitution and people trafficking, claimed that this proves Thucy's joke was a rape joke, and be knee deep in calling him a hypocrite.

Why hasn't this thread evolved into a delightful heated argument revolving around the finer points of militant feminism yet?!?

We have lost so much... :(

The Goose Public Press Series
Hi all, as you may know, I've always been a huge fan of public press games. I was hoping to get a 7 game series started where you play public press as each country. Non-anon. 48 hour phase 10 point buy-in. If you think you have what it takes to send subliminal messages to your neighbors, post below.

Kazakhstan on the Modern II Map
Er. The Caspian Sea works as an ocean spot, correct? And Kazakhstan is adjacent to it.
Why can't I convoy to Kazakhstan then? I can convoy to Caucasus, Volga, etc. but not Kazakhstan. Even with a fleet in the Caspian, moving an army from Iran to Kazakhstan works without asking for "via land" or "via convoy".

Is this a known error/glitch/bug?

The Great Pot Debate
No, not another de-criminalisation thread.
Just a suggestion that, for replacement players, the contribution of points to the 'pot' should be abated by the amount of the defaulting player's initial contribution. So, with an original bet size of, say, 40, a 6-SC power would cost just 24 to take over, while a 3-SC power would cost nothing.
This would provide an incentive for substitutes to come forward.

Can someone explain to me, why people cheat. If you cheat and win, did you really win? If your accomplishment is not on your own merits, what did you accomplish? This game is a great learning vehicle, what reward is there for cheating?

I just noticed that I've spent the last two months on the overall top-100 GR list. I joined about a year-and-a-half ago, so it's taken a while (I only play full-press games, usually with long phases), but it's pretty sweet.

Congratulations, me.

Mahmoud Abbas: Hamas to Blame for the Prolongation of the War
