Draug if we get to see the players in each game before they actually start I will do the odds on each set of 7 ...... need to see if the TDs will operate a seeding system or whether it is just first-out-of-the-bag. If we have 42 players and 6 games then I'm hoping to be seeded in Pool B based on Feb GB GR based on the fact that
Highest ranked 6 would be in Pool A, next ranked 6 in Pool B, etc. I guess you're Pool G if you're un-ranked in GB but as an experienced player you might be a surprise package that turns the form book inside out ...... I reckon you're a good bet for getting through round one but we don't know the draw yet.

We have 44 registered players. As such, the initial round will be modified to accommodate 44 total games, meaning each player will play exactly 7 times. This will allow us to then take the top 14 of the initial 44 players into the 2nd round.

Currently, we are working on setting up the first round so that players don't play each player more than once. If anyone is good at this sort of thing we would appreciate their help.

From your first post it reads as if you pre-qualify players in the Top 50 All-Time GR and then the rest of the players play to qualify to make up the 28.
e.g. If 16 of the Top 50 players are in the Tourney then the remaining 28 (44-16) play for the last 12 spots, eventually getting a total of 28 players which would then run as it did last year.
Are you still doing this or is it a free for all names-out-of-a-hat and then the top 28 scorers go into round 2 or are you going to seed the games based on GR.
Here is a suggestion.
The top 16 qualify for the 1st Round Proper, the next 28 players have 4 seeded groups of seven players, playing 4 qualifying games and the top 3 from each group by points qualify, that gives you 12 players to add to the 16 which leaves you with the 28 you had last year, then if required seed the top players in the first round proper.

We are trying to avoid play-ins while keeping this inclusive. This is important. It is also important for us to make the distribution reasonably fair (i.e. not names out of a hat).

Players are seeded based on their current GB Rating (not ranking - as a few don't have current ones). Any help would be appreciated.

What do you need to get this tournament started?

Have a play-in parallel to the main draw to play in the next running of the tourney... don't delay a few months for a play-in. This gives unranked access, and of course playing more will also earn them access on ranking, too.

I have 44 games worked out, now I need a list of the players ranked 1 to 44 and I can give you the players in each game
