The Ancient Med - not year 1
What year is the Ancient Mediterranean set? Definitely not year 1AD, by then the Med was a Roman Lake. Carthage was destroyed in 146BC, Egypt fell to Rome in 47BC, Greece had been Roman for centuries. Only Persia can claim some independence on that map.

Express your interest below. And, of course, thanks to Kestas, the mods, and the peanut gallery for making this the best site on the Internet.

17 games, 17 players
Who's in? 17 world gunboats, one game as each nation, 50 hour phases, WTA, anon, ready-up preferred (but no means required), only prearranged pauses (example, if someone insists on a winter break pause, we will ask the mods to unpause at an agreed time if we don't unpause ourselves by then), 5 D bets for a total of 85 D buy-in. Who's in?

Balancing the map
Has anyone tried seeing what would happen if Albania was made into a supply center and Serbia was turned into an ordinary neutral? I would expect stronger wars between A/I and between R/T. Thoughts, please.

Why were the gunboat games paused?

Shouldn't we have ben voting for that???
yebellz (729 D(G))

The gunboat games have been force paused upon instruction by the tournament director as per the stated pause policy of the tournament, which grants up to a seven day pause for any upon request.

Please vote to unpause when you are ready to resume. The games will be force unpaused after 7 days if not already unpaused by vote at that time.
DJEcc24 (246 D)
08 Aug 12 UTC
clarifying for yebellz, he is correct. after 7 days it will be unpaused. That is how it originally was so that it doesnt last forever.

as far as my lack of involvement on this site i have been very busy since graduation and have not had the time. If anything else does come up you will have to email me at [email protected] because i will not be on here to check. I do not anticipate comign back to webdip for a good amount of time until i am settled in college and know i have the time. Thank you
I understand that pauses are a right for this tournament, but it is extrremely disconcerting when they are made without a warning and without a reason. This is exactly how other tournaments have failed over time.

I would have expected the pause request to be made in this forum so the competitors could grant the right to the pause.

I have found that tournaments run much smoother when the competitors are the ones controlling it, as they have a real stake in the agme where moderators do not.

In any case, the mods shouldn't make any decision without DJEcc24. I haven't talked to my teammate in the game, so I don't know his opinion.

Still waiting on an epxlanation regarding the paused gunboat games..........

should we cancel, then?

Thank you for emailing me guys. I appreciate it since i am rather busy these days.

I have gotten multiple complaints about metagaming and a pause that needs unpaused in full press 2.

From what i have gathered someone has figured out the identification of england and has researched how they have played in the past as England. This has apparently influenced their play, apparently more so than their diplomacy with england.

If that is so, i agree this is metagaming (as i understand from the site rules)

As far as the refusal to unpause the game because of this, that too is not in concordance with the tournament rules and should not be happening.

Both cases are in my opinion, wrong and hurting the gameplay.

I propose this game be cancelled and redone. I know metagaming should not be tolerated but in this case lets let it go as a warning since the unpausing is not tolerable as well.

As for the not unpausing, contact me about the metagaming or the mods instead of taking the game into your own hands.

Thank you all for your cooperation and i look forward to when I can be on the site more often.
ghug (5068 D(B))
12 Aug 12 UTC
Uh, DJ, if you had wanted to implement a stricter metagaming policy in the tournament, you should have done so in the rules. What Germany appears to be doing is perfectly within the site rules, as far as I know.
JECE (1248 D)
13 Aug 12 UTC
I remember having a conversation in this thread a while back about how I supposedly was going to go to war with Sangoose in PP should I figure out his or her identity. The consensus was that even if I did that it wouldn't be considered metagaming.

As for FP2, at least as far as the Germany's global chat is concerned, it seems like it did not let its investigations determine the outcome of its strategy in isolation.
ghug (5068 D(B))
13 Aug 12 UTC
Heh, I remember that too. That would be metagaming if you were to do that (and I only got so abrasive there because a) he's my teammate, and b) I've known people to feel the way you did when playing games against him). The difference, as I see it (and a mod should feel free to overrule me in an official capacity, as this is an issue of site rules), is that you would have been making the fast elimination of Sandgoose your primary goal because you did not like him, whereas Germany here is making tactical decisions, likely based in part on English diplomacy, in part based on in game positioning and power balance, and in part on the past actions of a player he has guessed to be the English player, like you say.

TL;DR: This case is shady, but seemingly not metagaming. We should get a mod to make an official ruling as the TD's was based on an interpretation of site rules.
JECE (1248 D)
13 Aug 12 UTC
ghug: Well, I understand what your original accusation was. But I had no intention of finding out who Sandgoose was in my game, let alone narrow-mindedly seek his elimination. It was what I would have done that could not have been considered metagaming.
ghug (5068 D(B))
13 Aug 12 UTC
Well, I see that the game's been cancelled, that's too bad. I also saw on the global chat before it was cancelled that England was going to be replaced by a teammate. I see no justification in the rules for this and am wondering why it has been allowed (if it actually has been).

Draws
Sifting through 10 pages of open positions, I am noticing that it's increasingly uncommon that people actually draw for a CD. In a few games, people have pushed for it, and others have seemed to have no understanding as to why they'd draw for a CD. Did this etiquette just disappear like magic? Pre-1903 CDs should *always* constitute a draw and post-1903 CDs should constitute a draw if they result in a loss of a line that would otherwise be present. When did this stop?
