You must be confusing me with someone else. I don't tend to use those words. Do I view women as sexual objects? Sometimes, sure, when they choose to perfomr a sex show on video or at a strip club. After all, they came over here because of slavery, an institution built on racism, and were systemically exploited for hundreds of years.

Thus, certain steps to reappropriate the value forcibly seized from blacks by whites back to blacks are morally defensible. And, thus, whites have an imperative to act - not to help blacks, as that would imply something being offered without being owed, but rather to repay them.

It's important to point out that white privilege, just like all other types of privileges, tends to be inconsistently distributed. There are multiple ways that people are advantaged, after all, and it is the nature of privilege that it's benefits are compounding in nature.

Being born white, male, wealthy, American, abled, etc. are all things that reinforce each-other.

Whether or not you personal can see it, it most definitely exists.

To help imagine privilege, I'd suggest putting yourself in the shoes of a physically disabled African woman who was born into a poor family in central LA and try to imagine how you would 'succeed' in life.

But on the topic in the title I actually have a pretty sad story.

I was teaching a class on modern American history to a class of mostly African Americans, and we had done the typical Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. Dubois debate on the advancement of African Americans. Washington, for the most part says that African Americans need whites help and to convince whites of African American worth in order to be accepted, while Dubois felt that leadership should come within the African American community and whites should not be relied on (simplifying both, I apologize). I asked for opinions on which people agreed with in the class thinking that it would be nearly unanimously DuBois, but it was, if I remember correctly, unanimously in favor of Booker T. Washington. I hoped it was just inadiquate explanation on my part, but we had similar discussions (Carnegie vs. Debbs, Working class Feminist vs Middle Class reformer) and every time the students sided with the voice that was supporting patronization (probably wrong word was looking for another that is on the tip of my tongue)

Rotting? I'm sure he's a popular guy and living as well as a prisoner in the Nevada correctional system possibly can. And he had more than 10 years between the civil judgement and his arrest in Vegas to come up with *something*. Instead, he moved to Florida so he could have a judgement-proof house.
