Indy's Clever Pet Tricks To Win Games List (Please Contribute)
1. Find the players that CD most frequently, set up a game, and invite them! In a game chosen at random (truly), these were the percentages I found for the 7 players: 17%, 20%, 10%, 2%, 43%, 0%, and 29%. Truly! Just imagine if you could find 6 players with 50% rates!

Summer Gunboat Tournament: Interest Thread
I've been talking to trip about organising a summer season of his gunboat tournament. Before I get serious about it, I want to gain some feedback from participants of the just-finished tournament and also make sure there is enough interest to field it at all.

@IKE, seeding will be on games played for the first round, second round will seed by points/rank from results in the first.

It is very clear that we're going to reach 42 and add a 6th group. This does nothing to the structure of the second or final rounds. It just means a bigger prize pool and less third place finishers that move on. We may even reach 49 and have a perfect 49 (best 2 from each advance)

One potential problem with a bigger tournament is the greater chance of Civil Disorders and pauses. As gramilaj mentioned, this is a commitment you need to make sure you can keep. It's a minimum of three games, with a potential for nine if you go all the way. And in the event you do need a pause, sitter, or replacement, you have to be willing to do the legwork and communicate with me early and often.

Dealing with replacements is the worst part of officiating a tournament, and it really slows down the whole thing as all the other groups need your's to finish before the tournament can progress. So lets not have any! =)

Are the top 7 in 1 group, etc? Last tournament it was #1 seed, 5, 9 etc. Round robin type so everyone got mixed together.

I was thinking to have a rank 1 to 14 and then seed the groups into A (1,3,5,8,10,12,14) and B (2,4,6,7,9,11,13) Would that work?
Geofram (130 D(B))

Not all three games of the second round have to be with the same group. We could definitely do some sort of shuffle. In fact, I like that idea.

What about:

G1: A(1,3,5,8,10,12,14) and B(2,4,6,7,9,11,13)
G2: A(1,4,5,7,10,11,14) and B(2,3,6,8,9,12,13)
G3: A(1,2,5,6,9,10,13) and B(3,4,7,8,11,12,14)

Linkin Park is an idiot. He's been told multiple times that this isn't helping his chances of getting a game started. In fact, it's hurting them since most players will refuse to join such games out of principle. He just doesn't get it.

So how many do we have signed up so far?
Geofram (130 D(B))

49!
I still need to hear back from the 48th player and I'm counting myself as the 49th
(I'm just organising, not moderating, so hopefully there's no objection to me participating, if there is I'll step out.)

I'd still like to have a few more sign up, just because during that first week of May when everyone needs to join their first game, there's always someone that no one can get a hold of and needs to be replaced.
yebellz (729 D(G))

Wow, that's amazing. Thanks for organizing, Geo! I think you should play
Geofram (130 D(B))
15 Apr 11 UTC
Thanks yebellz.

Also, this brings the prize pool up to 1050.
600/300/150 split!

Some people have asked why we aren't doing round robin now that we've reached 49. The issue with round robin is that every player would play 7 games in the first round, it lengthens the tournament significantly.

I would love to do a true 49 player round robin. But all the other players would have to commit to a minimum of 7 games instead of the previous 3. And the total tournament would be 13 games instead of 9.

It does double the prize pool to 2030 though. =P

I'd go for a round robin if the games were 5 D each.
Geofram (130 D(B))
15 Apr 11 UTC
Oh the games are definitely 5 D each.
It's not off the table, but I definitely have to send out feelers to more players to see if anyone objects to playing round robin. (aka 7 games)
gramilaj (100 D)
15 Apr 11 UTC
I'm in for Round Robin, it would be awesome to play that many folks.

It's a little nerve wracking that we saw a 6% resign rate in the last tourney, and 7 games will increase that number.
Geofram (130 D(B))
15 Apr 11 UTC
6% of people resigned, or 6% of games had a resignation?
Geofram (130 D(B))
15 Apr 11 UTC
There's also the idea of having 21 players move on to the second round.
In fact, I think we should just do this. Then the top 2 from each group move onto the finals, with the best performing third placer getting the wild card slot.

Oh, whoops, I totally misunderstood the GR site: http://sites.google.com/site/phpdiplomacytournaments/gunboat-tournament

I thought 6% resign was a disclaimer about the previous tourny, but it was a requirement to get in.

Convoy Error message
I receive the following message when trying to convoy an army from Armenia to Sev. Parameter 'viaConvoy' set to invalid value 'Yes'.
Is this a common error? The move is surely legal.
This is an anonymous game, so I am reluctant to post the game ID.

Suggestion- buying points
This seems like a good idea to me. I've only 2 D left, but if we could buy points(to a set limit), this has a 2 pronged benefit.
It allows me to play more games(or higher pot games) and gives money to those developing the site.
Thoughts?
