Poetry opportunities..?
There used to be great organizations that worked through my school for poetry in youth, but now that I actually have an appreciation for poetry it seems like there aren't as many opportunities to perform or compete with poems.
Is anyone aware of prominent high school poetry organizations?

Is this game getting less popular?
I remember using this site years ago and I felt I could always find games to join, or if I made a game it would fill up in a couple of days at most.

Is there another site that people are using to play? It still seems like this one is the best at least from my quick google.

Must See Movie Reccomendations
So I like movies a lot and one of my goals in life is to watch every movie that is worth watching. I've seen most of AFIs top 100 and I have a to-watch list that is 168 films and counting. As such, I was curious if anyone here has some must-see movies that I may not know about.

The Arab Spring was a horrible failure
Can you name any countries that benefitted from the Arab Spring? Libya is literally a slave-state, Egyptians overthrew one leader only to overthrow the next, Iranian arab spring failed, Syria is a bloodbath. Is there a single positive that came from this movement?

Why no love for Sum of Squares scoring?
Personally, I'm not a big fan of Draw Size scoring, because it rewards the power that hung on with one dot the same as the 17 SC power that was a hair away from the solo.

What I've noticed is that almost every new game is Draw Size Scoring. Is that just because it's the default option or are players here just not fond of it.

The Paris Uprising of 1832 was a horrible failure
Can you name any characters that benefited from the Paris Uprising of 1832? Éponine is literally and figuratively heartbroken, Jean Valjean overcame Javert only to die of old age in the next bloody act. Is there a single positive that came from this musical?

Who Are The Real Dinosaurs In Congress?
Republicans do a better job of promoting younger members, in part because they limit, to six years, the length of time a member can be chairman or chairwoman of a committee. Democrats do not impose term limits on committee leaders or so-called ranking members, the top slot for lawmakers who are in the minority.

KB was a frequent poster who believed that the forum-folk opposed him because he held to conservative views. Of course, that did lead to some heated discussions in here. But really he was opposed because he presented his views with vitriol, defensiveness, and boring repetitiveness. He was banned by Zultar for repeated abusive PM's.

About a week back I thought that this result was going to be inevitable because KB was behaving like an "out of control train" imho. I could accept that although some of the things KB directed at me were clearly breaking the rules & conventions of this site, that because I had been provocative towards him I asked the Mods by email to be lenient towards KB with regard to his actions towards me. I did try a couple of times, notably in the baseball thread to have a civil conversation with KB, but ultimately those attempts were rejected by KB.
What I found to be completely unnaceptable from KB was his public abuse of the Almighty Mods. We can disagree with the Almighty Mods, but to publicly abuse them is just not acceptable. Everyone at this site imho is obliged to show the Almighty Mods a certain, basic level of respect. That imho is strictly non negotiable.
When I read KB's continued abuse of the Mods I concluded that the "train wreck" was inevitable.
Unfortunately I suspect that KB will not learn from his experience here and is probably blaming everyone else, but not himself for what has occurred.
I would like to publicly thank Dipbro Brainbomb for his "behind the scenes" efforts to advise me to show restraint & "calm down" when I was really super cranky in response to some of KB's more offensive actions towards me.
TrPrado (461 D)

Bo and brainbomb are old players now? 0.o

Dude if you don't remember figlesquidge as a mod, I can't really say you're old. Eden is definitely right, "generations" on the site are quite short. It used to go by which tournament was your first one on the site. That's when new people really popped up on my radar if they weren't active on the forum. I still remember brain and bo as being the annoying little shits they were when they first joined the forum. Ah, the good old days.

I stand by my philosophy. If you have a problem with a person, you mute them. People can say whatever they want and be as terrible as they want - that is their right. Your right is that you don't have to listen to them.

And look, as Eden said, there's no love lost on KB. I told him to not go after the SoW proofs and he did so anyways. And personally this site will be more enjoyable for me without him. But just talking about how to make the site a more welcoming place in general.
TrPrado (461 D)

Letting KB go unchallenged maybe would be welcoming for him and him alone, but I see no reason that we need to pretend to be cheerful when someone of his character comes in to wreck the place.

@gold, mute just causes people to get confused when they are in a forum conversation and people are referring to invisible comments. If it became more widely used you wouldn't be able to make coherent sense of a thread. And the forum is such a minor part of the site that it seems a massive waste of our very limited volunteers time to devote any substantial part of it dealing with players like KB cussing them and others out. But the worst of it was the SoW impact. School of war represents the site and deliberately causing a mess of it when it was clear from the start it was a teaching game is unacceptable. There's no need for members like that.

Hopefully I'm an old enough member for you to not just casually dismiss my view too.

The 2009 intake? Why on earth would anyone listen to those old farts?

Speaking as his TA (the last one, anyway) I was actually rather impressed by what I saw of his initial press and commitment to the spirit of the game. I was also impressed by his conversations with me, both in his eagerness to learn and (believe it or not) friendly and civil nature. Where he let himself down badly is in how he reacted to events turning against him and the perceived unfairness of the unique SoW mechanics. A lot of the contributing factors to this sad case of affairs were not of his making. That does not in any way excuse him, but a lot of the commentary here is based on a very one sided view that assumes he was an arse to everyone and made no effort in the SoW. This is not at all an accurate representation.

Mute is a temporary remedy. It does not stop the aggressor from continuing to be abusing, insulting, offensive, slanderous, libelous, or inciteful or inflammatory behavior. Ban-hammers are sometimes necessary.

Jmo, I'm not dismissing their viewpoints. As I've said, I understand and respect them, but have a different philosophy. And if you *really* didn't want to waste the mods time, we could go back to the wild west days :)

Similar to Octavious, my interactions with him we're a bit different than that which the whole forum saw. He was capable of becoming a productive member of the site, if he were only forum banned. Whatever happened to that option? I yelled at him a bit via PM for breaking SoW etiquette and he never lashed back. But I'm also aware mine is also a fragmented view, so I'll let the issue rest.

But, you're well aware of my thoughts concerning the forum, jmo, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to you
