Webdip points question
If a player abandons/leaves a game and no one takes over their position, is that player still included in draws to end the game? Do they get a split of the webdip points from the game?

Jason it is an interesting theory but from what I see just a theory.

I've never argued that steroids would definitely not improve performance. I did state that if pitchers were also juicing wouldn't that eliminate the 'advantage' hitters had?

Cause the main points about steroid use in baseball focus solely on the hitters and implies that only hitters would gain an advantage.

What if pitchers got that same 4% increase in velocity?

Would that take a 95mph fastball and make it a 99mph fastball?

We don't for sure if that theory on 4% increase in bat speed was in fact true as they didn't chart bat speed then like they do now.

I didn't say that climate change didn't have an impact, but I did say that this is a fairly normal and predictable event that will happen every once in awhile regardless of climate change and that we shouldn't look at Irma as standalone evidence that the climate is creating stronger storms. Why is nuance so hard?
JamesYanik (548 D)

@bo

ok i was wondering how a storm chaser went with hurricanes with all the traffic and whatnot

but also, there is evidence to suggest that we'll be seeing more Cat. 4-5 hurricanes, although fewer tropical cyclones overall

Yeah, I said that earlier. It's a pretty plain to see trend. Irma is one of many. If Jose grows to a major hurricane, it too will be one of many. We had three major hurricanes make landfall in the US in 2005 too.

Well, funny how often people try the "you don't understand anything about science" when presented with scientific data. It happens in just about every thread, and I have zero patience for people pretending their gut feeling sitting on the sofa is as valid as actual study and research which takes many years. I get really fed up with that

And wusti, your notion that something is "caused by climate change" is nonsensical. In that sense no storm is ever caused by anything, since everything is a contributing factor. Saying that climate change doesn't alter the impacts and frequently magnify them is, well, just wrong. If that's what you mean by "cause" then absolutely you can prove the contribution. If you mean something else, then nothing causes everything

And yes, deforestation is a major driver of climate change both in terms of global budgets and local impacts. You could indeed do a dissertation on that, at Harvard even, provided you could get in. That takes work too

So of course in the late 90's early 2000's there was no possibility of any other underlying factors impacting home runs other than steroids right?

No possibility of the baseballs wound tighter then?

No possibility of a drop in the pitching talent those years?

Smaller ballparks?

Nothing but steroids.

Got it.
Ogion (3882 D)
07 Sep 17 UTC
Actually, bo that isn't what you said initially. You said that climate change didn't cause the big storm

Of course one data point doesn't demonstrate the existence of climate change. One data point is no different than zero in fact (bonus points if you know why that is). Howeve, having already amply demonstrated that climate change is well underway, it is. It at all hard to show that a) this kind of event is far more likely, b) that the occurance of a lot of extreme events is strong evidence and c) that this storm was stronger as a result of climate change.

Ogion I lived in Boston from the age of 14 (maybe younger, cant recall exactly) til I joined the military ( to pay for college)

Let me tell you something. I didnt even know I was poor til the liberals of THAT city made it perfectly clear I was.

Pitiful city of hate there. Possibly the most racist city I have ever been in.

Tulsa Oklahoma, number 24 in Obesity, we lost our top 5 spot a while back, but walking around town you'd never recognize it. And if you're ever in town, drop by 71st and Lewis near where i live. There's a creek out back where two people have died in the last few years, and a Walmart up the street where a guy got caught making meth in the back of the store.

it's the purgatory zone. not north Tulsa which is crime ridden and shitty, and not south Tulsa which is all prettier and with nice schools

did i also mention our schools are so defunded that we're down to 3 days a week in some parts? because why do kids need to LEARN or anything?

Yep. Pretty standard anti-intellectual bullshit from conservatives. Feel totally insecure in the face of someone smart who knows how to work hard to advance human knowledge? Talk about smugly superior your backwater values are! Works every time

Want to see hupocrisy? Look for someone using a computer to talk about how stupid scientists are. Yeah. So stupid they invented the thing you're Hsiang that you wouldn't even begin to comprehend how it works.

Typical. Look down your noses at the people who have made just about everything around you work (and suck down their tax dollars while "serving (yourself)" in the military. Then bob about how "independent" you are and how you don't take handout while pocketing your government check paid for by, you guessed it, a smart educated guys' taxes who actually produces something

And then bleat about hypocrisy. Yeah, I know the type really well. I've lived in the Midwest, and much of my family is from the south. I know it really really well

Oh, yeah, that's why so many minorities are leftists and work with leftists. Because they're so racist. Lol. Meanwhile, which party is it again who is all buddy buddy with neonazis and Klansman and talking about how they must have "free speech" rights to threaten everyone else? Funny how those guys weren't insisting on free speech for black lives matters. Oh no.
Yeah, liberals are super duper racist.
