planes and air travel
So i was thinking that it would be really cool to have a way to add an air force into this game and i think ive got a way. air forces would be units with long ranges. Of travel however they would only be able to support or "convoy" a unit

What is the point in gunboat games?
I have played a live gunboat on classic, after I managed to contain myself for a long time of participating in such an event because I could not imagince such an arrangement to be funny. And indeed, without the option to plot against your foes (and friends, of course...well mostly your friends) this game just misses so much.

Kuta is an exotic name. Where you from bro?
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
19 Feb 15 UTC
I'm an American, born in Ohio spending time in MA, NJ, MO, AZ and CA the past 20 years. I'm told Kuta is Polish and there is a town of that name there, though most of my heritage is German with some Danish. I sometimes claim Bali's famous "Kuta Beach" as my own just for some tongue-in-cheek fun when people inquire.
yassem (2533 D)
19 Feb 15 UTC
I'm Polish and have never heard any word nor name "Kuta". Did you by any chance mean Kutas?
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
19 Feb 15 UTC
I know my name. ;) I don't think it is common, but there are some things with the name Kuta in Poland.

Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
19 Feb 15 UTC
I have also heard that "Kuta" may be a truncated form of a longer name. Many Polish immigrants to the United States dropped the "-sky" or -ski" from their names when they registered upon arrival. I don't know whether this is true in my family's case or not.
Petyr Baelish (100 D)
20 Feb 15 UTC
Well my family name is from Braavos, but I was raised in the Fingers, that is in the Vale.
yassem (2533 D)
20 Feb 15 UTC
Just to make things clear - Polish people would only drop "-ski", because "-sky" is not an option in Polish (for example Kowalsky is already altered version of Kowalski).
As for Kuta it just occurred to me it actually is a regular adjective in Polish, though not used very often. It means forged with a hammer, and now that I think about it theoretically it could be someones last name (in Poland it is very popular to have a last name that means something). However, "kuta" is in feminine form, so you'd have Anna Kuta, but Adam Kuty, and since last name is based on paternal heritage I don't think that's the way to look.
Nevertheless of course it is absolutely possible that you've got this surname from someone with Polish origins as there's nothing "wrong" with it (unlike for example a surname ending with "-sky" it doesn't violate any rules), it just isn't a "Polish" (in terms of being typical or traditional) surname, just like it wouldn't be a typical German (as opposed to e.g. Schmidt).
yassem (2533 D)

Oh, and by the way, I do hope that your family name wasn't "Kutaski" because it literally means "little cocks", and unlike in English in Polish cock has only one meaning, and it's not a rooster : D
phil_a_s (0 DX)
20 Feb 15 UTC
yassem, there is a rather easy way you can end up with the feminine form. When you arrive in the US as an immigrant, you have your name. The surname applied to a child is that of the father, but only in most cases. In the case of an absent or unknown father, you'll end up with the feminine form. It's an interesting way the slavic tradition of giving gender to names can get screwed up, in much the same way as the -son postfix (though, for the reasons you outlined, not really the -dottir one) is still around despite being sort of wrong. In the days of the removal of the patronymic tradition, unknown parents weren't really very common, and there were other traditional ways of dealing with the issue.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
20 Feb 15 UTC
It is probably some combination of several factors. I know there are some Kuty families in the United States also.

Despite the "rules" and naming conventions in other languages, English, in particular American English, absorbs just about everything it can and creates a big mess of it all though Anglicization.

Additionally, during the major migrations from Europe to American in the 19th century (when my ancestors came over), the immigrant intake processes was not as standardized. Immigrants would often state their names to the immigration official. The official might just guess how to spell the name and make a mistake.

It is also true that some immigrants came to America to avoid persecution and start new lives. Truncating or outright changing last names, especially to those who didn't have papers, was a way to escape the past and begin again. Others changed their names to avoid anti-Semitism, anti-Catholicism or other prejudices of the time.

My father's side grew up as Polish Catholics in northern Indiana. But as some of my aunts (now in their 70s) dug into our history a bit, they actually found some Jewish heritage. It wasn't unknown for Jews coming to the U.S. to blend into the local scene if there wasn't a synagogue nearby to offer support.

Anyway, enough about me. But "cock forged with a hammer." Sounds about right. ;)
yassem (2533 D)
20 Feb 15 UTC
(+1)
Cock forged with a hammer would be exactly "Kuty kutas".
@Phil_a_s, of course the gender thing is only applying to last names that are adjectives. It is equally common to have a last name that is a common noun, in which case both men and women share the exactly same surname.
Traditionally though, the name would be different and even differ between the wife and the daughters of a man (e.g. a surname that means carnation - Goździk, wife would we Goździkowa while the daughters would be Goździkówna, while this isn't the official way any more it is still often used while speaking).
But I do get how some surnames could have gotten easily mixed up, especially since surnames are subject to declension in Polish as well, so one easy misunderstanding can lead to absolute changes in the surname (often a case during the partitions, when Prussians did not get how the last name can change depending on the case).

I am looking for five friends that would be willing to challenge a group of my friends on a five on five game. It is more of a strategic game and not a emotional backstabbing game when you play in just two teams. If interested just post on here or pm me. If you don't have a group of five friends who play you could try to create a group through this thread.
For all who are brave enough.
