"Describing recreational drugs as some kind of sacred initiation is Charles Manson-ish."

Lucircous and moronic. What does being a mass murderer have to do with smoking pot? Let's see....Hitler enjoyed a fine glass of sophisticated wine...tendmote, I hear, thinks wine is an acceptable drink (not bad like that evil maryjane)...therefore by tendmote's logic enjoying a glass of wine makes you a genocidal maniac.

**

If you've never smoked pot, then you have no idea what the **light-hearted** references to is being a spiritual experience are about, and you should probably refrain from commenting, lest you make yourself look like a fool to those in the know.

Despite what your government overlords have told you, you will not become hysterical and try to jump off a building a fly, you will not become a quivering pile of useless goo and quit your job in order to do petty break-ins to sell shit to get your next pot fix, you will not become a wild-eyed zombie, etc.

Stop listening to the far <x>-wing morons in the media and <x>-political movements trying to enforce *their* desired behavior and morality upon you.....because on any oher given day you will say the <x>-group is a bunch of morons. Soallowing them to propagandize you on the evils of a substance which is FAR less harmful than alcohol and most prescription pain meds makes you a bit of a dufus.

@ Putin "Ssoren is proof that marijuana neither mellows people out nor makes them friendlier. "

Funny....because you apparently do NOT smoke, and you are just as foul, harsh and unfriendly as ssoren -- so clearly the evidence indicates that pot/lack-of-pot is not the determining factor in whether or not one is a belligerent ass.

The same goes for Krellin. Why is it the most violently hostile people here are all marijuana lovers?

Putin - I haven't smoked pot in probably 20 years - so trying to characterize my behavior as that of a pot-smoker is moronic. And....again....you....not a pot smoker...one of the most vitriolic, negative people around here doesn't say a whole lot of good for sobriety.

You'd be best to find a new line of argument because you are pretty much at the 100% FAIL mark right now.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Quite the contrary krellin, i made the comment precisely because that strikes me as an enjoyable activity. not so much actually blowing smoke in putin's face. that was more of a reaction of frustration that putin would undoubtedly not even agree to chill with you and me while we were smoking, indeed it seems unlikely he would agree to "chill" with us in any sense of the word, since he will not even do it here. did you see a page or two ago how he did not respond to my attempts to simply be friendly until someone else took up the argument about weed again, then immediately he was more than happy to continue with argumentation and talking points?

I saw that as something of a spite to me. I was actually just sort of asking him to treat me as a friend, clearly he isn't interested. It burns, a bit. I like the guy. So the weed smoke to the face thing was just me making light of feeling that way later on. Of course I wouldn't actually do it, and not only because as I said Putin would never agree to hang out with me socially anyway, apparently. I suppose he sees us solely as opponents. I can't remember the last time he cracked a joke.

Come out of your shell Putin. We want to know what the human underneath is like. No this is not a tactic. I am not interesting in winning whatever argument yall are currently having on this thread.

Aisde: krellin, a water bong sounds entirely too intimidating for me. I would get wayyyy tooo hiiigh lol. As I said, it's been awhile since I smoked in any significant quantities. Just a hit from a joint, call it a day.

Thucy, I do not know what you are complaining about. I asked you what you wanted to know and got no reply from you. I take it weren't really interested.
krellin (80 DX)
01 Sep 14 UTC
Thucy - we had a 3 1/2 foot tall water bong in school. "The Fucker". Clear Purple plastic. It was best to approach it with respect and honor it on bended knee before partaking. Oh what a device of marvel and wonder that was....<sigh> When the police raided the dorm and stole it from our friend, it was a sad day indeed...lol

For day to day, though, we had a regular old 9 incher. also had a nice little one-hitter dug-out with bat painted to look like a cigarette for clandestine smoking while roller-blading across campus.

I hate's me the barbaic joint...so wasteful and harsh....but in a pinch it's always good to have a pal in the room that can twist a nice fatty on call.

Oh word, what's the article about? That's advanced, impressive stuff. I doubt very many of us here have had anything published.

I'm not in Jamaica anymore; I was just there for the summer. I'm back in New Orleans now, and I work at a sustainable landscaping company here. And as everyone knows, I also intern at the Fruit Tree Project, and no, the orange season is not here yet abgemacht.

@krellin I think I'm being misunderstood. I wouldn't dream of stopping anyone from smoking pot, or drinking, or whatever. However, *if asked* (and this thread did ask), I will say that these things are idiotic.

And I did not say that smoking pot turns you into Charles Manson. I said that the idea that "if you don't smoke it, don't comment" is akin to an initiation into a cult, and that's just one data point in a Manson-ish pattern that's specific to Thucydides.

And since "If you've never smoked pot" keeps coming up, don't worry, I have, and I could always take it or leave it, no problems. I did end up in rehab for other reasons, though I've been clean and sober for years.

Anyway, weed is neither respectable nor gentlemanly, and yes, I am qualified to comment (as if I wasn't before).

For those of us that have dealt with substance issues and beat them, I commend you. However, you saw fit to do so. It doesn't change the fact that smoking weed has nothing to do with being respectable or not. Nor gentlemanly. It's like saying a person that drinks is either ungentlemanly or not respectable. I know that if AA or NA were the programs that you went through, there is a brainwashing mentality that helps them get to their goals. That also doesn't mean their ideals are the norm, they just help their 'clients' get to where they need to be. Nothing wrong with that.

"lmao roller skating? that's hard to picture. i'm trying, it's just hard. it's not that i don't believe you lo"

Thucy - yeah, I'm one of the old farts that bought the original Roller Blades when they first hit the market in around 1987 or so - used 'em to get around campus. (Michigan State is a big campus). You would have been impressed with me back in the day -- The Man started hanging up signs saying roller blades weren't allowed in buildings, etc --- old krellin wrote and editorial and submitted it to the paper, talking about the unfairness of not allowing people to use the new and growing form of transportation, etc...got published and everything.

You can mock me all you want - but blades were the rage back in the day. We used to jump the fountains, we'd blaze up (or other mentally-expaninding activities...) and scream cross campus -- hit the parking ramps, take the elevator to the top and skate to the bottom top speed...oh yeah...5 years, never a scrape or broken bone...So to those that say you can't function while stoned, I defy them to skate as well as I did high while they are sober.

There weren't roller blades before? I remember my grandma having a pair of roller skates from the 20s. It would surprise me if it took at least that long for someone to come up with the idea of moving the wheels around slightly.

The Goose Public Press Series
Hi all, as you may know, I've always been a huge fan of public press games. I was hoping to get a 7 game series started where you play public press as each country. Non-anon. 48 hour phase 10 point buy-in. If you think you have what it takes to send subliminal messages to your neighbors, post below.

Kazakhstan on the Modern II Map
Er. The Caspian Sea works as an ocean spot, correct? And Kazakhstan is adjacent to it.
Why can't I convoy to Kazakhstan then? I can convoy to Caucasus, Volga, etc. but not Kazakhstan. Even with a fleet in the Caspian, moving an army from Iran to Kazakhstan works without asking for "via land" or "via convoy".

Is this a known error/glitch/bug?

The Great Pot Debate
No, not another de-criminalisation thread.
Just a suggestion that, for replacement players, the contribution of points to the 'pot' should be abated by the amount of the defaulting player's initial contribution. So, with an original bet size of, say, 40, a 6-SC power would cost just 24 to take over, while a 3-SC power would cost nothing.
This would provide an incentive for substitutes to come forward.
