"Shut Down" Bullshit by Obama
If we don't Federal Workers to man the WWII memorial...how come we have enough to pay the guards to put up barricades and stand guard to prevents WWII vets from visiting? How come Obama still seems to have staff at his *golf course*?

Seems Barrack Dickhead Obama has a very selective vision of what "shut down" means...

If nobody has ever negotiated on the Debt Ceiling, as Obama and the intellectually vacant around here say, …then how did we get Sequestration after the Debt Ceiling negotiations in 2011. Sequestration was *Obama’s* plan, by the way.

So how long does a player remain a Political Puppet and then move on to Member, Experienced, etc?

Is it a matter of how long you've played or how many times you've won or drawn? Or is it just based on time spent on the site? Just curious. Thanks for your help....

bill still seems to think the elite wanted to divide america so lincoln was a problem for them. but i am not so sure. lets say he did not declare war on the south and let the south kick out the norths military from their territory, would that have really benefited them much?

So a couple months ago I asked the WebDip community for advice for college. Many of you said that joining a frat would be a good idea, and at the very least I should check it out.

Fog of war variant
Correct me if there is already one, but wouldn't it be cool to have a variant with 'fog of war'? You would only be able to see enemy units in territories neighbouring your own territory/armies. The uncertainty would make things very interesting.. perhaps with additional distance limitations on conversation as well

We have 18 now, I'll keep this open a little longer.

Based on who has signed up, etc. I would like the buy-in to be about 100 D for the tournament (all to the winner for a 2700 D profit). If we had more points at stake I would do this differently.

So, if you do not currently have 135 D available, can you please message me and we can figure out how to make it work.

Also, if you are one of the rich players and are willing to help cover another person's buy-in please let me know. I don't expect this from any of you but it might help get this started faster.

Bump. I'll work on this tonight
A quick update:

"Hi [LANDO],

We've also decided to be more restrictive about allowing tournaments with prize pots that are not zero-sum, since this is effectively just feeding points toward tournament participants. Without restrictions, players could simply call anything a tournament and ask for bonus points for the winners, which would be unfair for others.

We'd actually strongly prefer it if players would make sure they had enough to pay the 5 D game fees themselves. Really, that would be a last resort for special circumstances, and a player should set aside the 35 D and not touch that in order to ensure that they can play those games.

Actually, when points are deducted by a moderator, the "refill" is not automatic. We wouldn't simply abuse the system to pull more points out of thin air. Like for games that take a player under 100, it would be reasonable to only refill them after they've lost in the tournament.

If you want to do a side pot for just the players that can pay it, that's fine, as long as everything is fair and symmetric.

So this has left me a bit confused. Do the mods not want a WTA tournament, with a single winner who wins all entries, or do they not feel comfortable giving players points to enter the tournament? I was under the impression that SD et al would be covering entries.
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))
05 Feb 13 UTC
Oh I think I get it. They don't want to collect 2800 from those that can afford and Lando/SD and let those that can't afford lose and continue to get refills....maybe. It has to be done as a transfer from SD, Lando, et. al to those poor folk and then would be tied up for the remainder of the tournament not allowing a refill until the player was eliminated.
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))
05 Feb 13 UTC
Side pot bets could be more interesting...just make it like poker side pot, you can only win up to what you risk. and then it goes to the next players bet.
Right, they won't let us pay the buy-in for the less pointful players. Which is fine and their call, this is not the place to argue the merits of their decision.

I am at work, will give a full update tonight.

BUT, yes, I will run a side-pot where everyone bets the same (or nothing) and then the winner gets the payout (assuming they bought in). I need to think of a contingency of some other shmuck wins though.....

More to come.

Just wanted to clarify the moderator position, since what Lando posted was just one reply in a larger thread of discussion, and several things were in response to specific questions that he asked.

Can you organize a tournament where players pay an upfront fee for a prize pool to be distributed based on results? Yes, as long it's balanced.

Can tournaments give out bonus points (more than what was taken in from the entrance fees)? No, not without specific approval first. Zero-sum tournaments are fine, but we won't generally allow tournaments that require the prize pool to be sweetened with additional points coming from nowhere. This has been abused in the past, when players would request their games to be considered "mini tournaments" demanding bonus points just because.

Can one player give another player points? No, we discontinued this since a lot of issues were coming when people were doing this and it undermines the points system.

Can one player donate points for another to pay for a tournament fee? No, as this is essentially one player giving points to another.

What if I just need 5 D to join a game? Ideally, players should set aside enough points for the individual buy-ins of all tournament games. We've been flexible in the past with helping players in the past, but we don't want to see that being abused just for free points.

The refill remark was in response to a question about Lando, suggesting that we essentially pull the points out of thin air for players that didn't have enough to pay the tournament fee. I was explaining that we were not going to do that. I was also clarifying that once players have bought into a tournament (which would require a manual point dock), they won't be automatically refilled back up to 100 total points since it was a manual dock, but we can manually reset back up to 100 total points after their run in the tournament has ended. This would ensure similar point system behavior as with committing their points into a game.

We also suggested as an alternative (in response to a question by Lando), that he could set up of side pot, where everyone who could afford to would pay a fixed amount, and only those that paid for that could win points from that pot.

Why all of this? We basically don't want to the point system abused by allowing points to be pulled out of thin air or arbitrarily transferred between players.

This tourney should definitely still happen, even with no upfront bet gathered. We could just up the points of each game if people want higher stakes.
josunice (3702 D(S))
05 Feb 13 UTC
@yebellz - what about Gen Lee's suggestion of a poker all in style pot -- everyone contributes what they wish, and can take a multiple of the bet they made up to the pot size (e.g. if we say 3x, then if you bet 150, you can take the pot up to 450 if you win). This would allow some to gamble more and get more... though winner take all are long odds... just curious.
