For the record, there are two active admins. Abge and myself. There is one owner and person with all the power, and that is kestas. We report to kestas. If anyone has any issues with something abge, myself, or both of us do, you can talk to kestas.
We -never- (to my knowledge) have punished someone for bitching about us. We will respond, we will talk, but we try to resolve issues in a civil manner. What happened here is something that happened in game, not in the forum. The only thing we really punish in the forum is spamming and rules violations (like cheating accusations, talking about an ongoing game, etc...).
Abge DID talk to me when the issue came up and I encouraged a harsher punishment, but abge eased up on my suggestion.
Draug sent an email for clarification and rechecking the crime/punishment from another mod. Since abge is a mod, that leaves me for the person to check into it so I gave him the rules he was in violation of. Abge, while straight forward, is correct in that some folks want to see things down to a 't' in the rules on violations and punishments like this was a courtroom. This isn't law & order, folks. This is a game. While we try to do things in a fair manner and respect the players, we are here to correct cheating and to correct any issues that make a game unfair __outside of the basic play and rules of diplomacy__ (ie - using the pause button as a dip tactic, etc...). Any law or rule is open to interpretation, and while most sites have a "mods/admins can change the rules at will and punish accordingly" as a 'loophole catcher', we at webdip do not. We have one 'loophole catcher' which kestas put in that shows the respect we have our players: The 'common sense' rule (go read it... this is my nice way of getting everyone to go through the rules again real quick to see how it is geared to respect you, not just give you rules to follow).
We are in the process of wording a couple new rules to clarify some issues people have a hard time grasping (and get kestas approval), but realize that the punishments aren't published because we take each and every case in a case-by-case basis (with the exception of repeat violators), so we try to make the punishments match the severity of the crime and how we want the ruling to be carried out (which is almost always having a player continuing to play, but not cheating or ruining the fun of the site).
Lastly, as abge mentioned, he is a big supporter of draug and likes draug. I personally consider him a friend and have had personal emails from draug and will even admit to trying to encourage him to return after the last fiasco. We like draug. We appreciate his voice, we appreciate his love of the game and the site. We think he's an extremely valuable member of the site, we just wish there wasn't so many outbursts like this that end up in site-wide drama.
PS - while threats carry little water and not much consideration, if there is someone who tries to purposely harm the server, do realize that if we have the capability of catching not only multi's but meta's, it is probably worth recognizing that there are tools in place already to track down who you are, timestamps to give to proxies to reverse connection lookups to find the specific users who are trying to do it, and laws in the various countries where the servers, owner, and end user lives in to cause more harm to you than the simple 'revenge' you get against some game moderators you are mad at. Please do not take it to that level unless you are willing to deal with the consequences. Whether or not YOU think it is a crime is insignificant. You can still be accused, have to go through the court system ($$$) and deal with whatever punishment a judge or jury deems worth if convicted. Simply getting to that level is taking your feelings in a game far further than it should ever go.
