Fools Rush In: Game 67704
Is this the highest stakes game played? Pot of 7000 D. I notice three players have voted to draw already, how disappointing. This is one game I would like to see played to the death.

Who is your money on?

Cheating in WebDiplomacy
I have sent a message to the game mods about a no ingame messaging World XI game Im in days ago without reply - and I think its a clear case of either A) metagaming or B) Multi-account because the level of co-op without any supposed comms is unbelievable.

So far nothing at all from the mods - not even an acknowledgement of the mail - what should I do?

Suggest 1 TV show you think absolutely MUST be seen by others--and espeically those who are maybe in another country and not familiar with the show. Ancient Med Stalemate Lines
I don't know if anyone is interested in studying or analyzing things like that, but I am. When I was first starting to play diplomacy (back in, oh, February?), I immersed myself in reading all about the strategies and theories that people had written articles on. Since discovering this site (back in, oh, last week?) I've really come to enjoy the Ancient Med variant.

Lord of the Rings Diplomacy?
Any other fans of the series interested in having a middle earth map for diplomacy? it is not on the to do list or planned at all, and i am just polling for thoughts on the topic. thoughts and ideas would be great, and if enough people want it then we can tell the mods and get it made, maybe.

KA - you're the real loser dumbass then. He means computer language... which its done in PHP it seems, which would make sense given the original name. As for your comments, I don't appreciate being referred to as a "loser who can't learn the superior dialect". I speak 5 languages and know 6 computer languages... you? Oh yeah, just redneck hillbilly, forgot.

Thank you FA. I'd be interested in seeing how complex the code is (I half-learned a lot of computer languages, at the stage before I could do anything useful with them).

"KA - you're the real loser dumbass then"

Well, I'm sorry that I misread something. I'm tired of having new people come through here and ask that same question. And knowing languages will get you nowhere in life, pick one and conform to it. My being a "hillbilly" does not prevent me from knowing a hell of a lot more than you, a great deal of it having much greater practical applications. So yes...my apologies.
Hurr durr, VB.net is clearly the superior language. (joke)

FirstApple (100 D(B))
16 Sep 11 UTC
On top of it, he insults the one user on this website who has tended to not be on his back about everything... sheesh. I'm not asking him to learn another language, just respect the fact that some people enjoy and take pride in knowing more than one.

Oliver will help with any problems you might encounter while creating a new variant. If you do not want to make any drastic changes in the rules, designing the map is the only difficulty one may encounter.

Oh, and I speak 1 and 3 partial languages (some Greek, Latin, and German plus my native tongue, American). And if you count English/British, I speak it fairly fluently for a Yank. I can at least follow everything they say on BBC America although the Top Gear guys have been known to turn a phrase that forced me to backup and take a second listen.

Computer Languages...

COBOL
RPG II/III
ForTran
C/C++/C# (standard and .Net variants)
BASIC and VB (from MS QuickBASIC and AppleBASIC to VB 5, 6, VBA, and VB.Net)
SQL
xBase (dBase3 & 4, FoxPlus, FoxPro, etc.)
Java certtified
JavaScript'
VBScript
Windows Scripting (MS/PC DOS Batch programming in the 80s and Windows Scripting after the introduction of Windows 95)
HTML/DHTML/XHTML
XML/XSLT
Lotus/Domino Script (may as well be VB with a specialized API attached to it)
some Perl and PHP

Numerous APIs - although not technically languiages, they can be as complex as any language out there.

My current work is in C#.Net and MS TransactSQL.

Draugnar (0 DX)
16 Sep 11 UTC
That is a stupid statement, Diplomat33. Which binary language are you talking. Fully assembled x86? 360/370? Binary isn't a language, it is a means of representing numbers and encoding schemes and the binary for 'A' in ASCII is different than the binary for 'A' in LMBCS. So, now that we have clarified you actually don't know what the fuck you are talking about, wnt to try bullshitting a 30 year IT veteran again?

Well, i never said i spoke and did anything well, being able to do something does not mean do something good
Draugnar (0 DX)

But you can't "program in binary" at all. You can only encode a machine language into it's binary form for a specific processor or assemble an Assembly program into binary encoding for a specific platform/OS. There is no binary "language", only a series of machine languages and OS runtime encodings that can be represented in binary or hexadecimal if you prefer (or octal if you are really in the mood to hurt your brain).
Diplomat33 (243 D(B))
16 Sep 11 UTC
you can write machine code, but very slowly
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
16 Sep 11 UTC
Hey now, that's not true.

My father definitely coded a machine using only binary as an undergrad.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
16 Sep 11 UTC
Oh, I understand what you're saying. Yes, a binary string can mean anything depending on what architecture you're using, but you *can* program in binary in the sense that you're skipping all the compiling steps.
Draugnar (0 DX)
16 Sep 11 UTC
But there is no binary language. There are many languages represented in binary for many different machines/processors. But the ZAP command (Xero and Add Packed) in every different assembler compiles to something diiferent for each processor and platform. So there is no such thing as "binary language". Instead it is "360/370 machine language" or "x86 machine language" and the binary to perform the same function in each is different.

That is what I was saying. You can code machine language for a specific machine *in* binary, but it isn't called "binary language".

And I once rewote Turbo Pascal's INT 13 keyboard handler by writning and hand assembling an x86 INT 13 handler of my own then embedding it at the beginning of the TP program as an inline binary encoded routine. But to read it, you'd have to know what platform it is for.

I knew there was a language I forgot,above: Pascal.

Oh, and I think Diplomat33 actually meant he could read ANSI binary-encoded characters, which is what most people call "binary code".
Draugnar (0 DX)
16 Sep 11 UTC
Agreed, abgemacht. But that wasn't what Diplomat33 meant. and we both know it.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Does LaTex count as a language? Cause that's complicated as shit.
Draugnar (0 DX)
16 Sep 11 UTC
Don't know that one. Does it have looping and conditional constructs? If so, those are my two primary qualifications.

I count TI programable calculators as having a language.
