People you would like to meet in person
The first ones that pump in your mind are probably the most characteristic!

SteevoKun (588 D)

Maimonides, Aristotle, Kafka, Dostoevsky, and some decent Diplomacy players for face to face games. :)
Sicarius (673 D)

@ maniac, who is swampy (just curious)

@ draugnar. congrats. huu-rah.

im not sure i would want to meet any of you webDip for realz....

dont get me wrong im sure i would enjoy getting frustrated by the hooligan that starts the religious debate and doesnt understand that the underlying argument comes down to not being able to comprehend how the other side can believe what they do.

I just like my creativity unadultered. Most of the time i can picture someone and be somewhat correct about how old there are/what they look like based mostly off of how they react to people, the way they type, and their views on life. Some of you(Sic and Edi) i pictured correctly before ever putting a face with a name, but i find it thoroughly disappointing when the person i see isnt the person that i envisioned. I can roughly relate it to seeing a movie after reading a book and not liking who they cast for the roles(no offense).

Now if everyone showed up with Guy Fox masks on and we picked out who we thought was who then i dont think i'd care as much if you dont look like what i "wanted" you to look like. Mainly because i think the enjoyment or frustration of picking the right or wrong person would outweigh the disappointment.

sorry for the long, drawn out explaination...
and to finally answer the question

Draugnar, Sicarius, Flashman, Kestas, Mapleleaf, sceptic_ka, jbalcorn, Biddis
and more that i fail to remember

After having replied I realized...was this supposed to be all about meeting people who play on here, not interesting historical figures/thinkers?
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
28 Oct 09 UTC
Friedrich Nietzsche, Napoleon Bonaparte, Groucho Marx, JFK, MLK, Shakespeare.

To start with.

But I don't think i'll be meeting any of them soon ;)
SteevoKun (588 D)
28 Oct 09 UTC
Groucho Marx, Shakespeare, and Napoleon could be interesting...as much as I like Nietzsche's word I don't know if I could handle hanging out with him or not (keep in mind he had syphilis and wasn't exactly right in the head, despite his genius).
Maniac (189 D(B))

@Sic - Swampy was/is a UK eco-warrior/environmental protestor in the UK.

"keep in mind he had syphilis"

What exactly do you Nietzsche would do to you that would make *that* relevant.

SteevoKun (588 D)

Nietzsche's loss of contact with reality in his later years (yes, even by Nietzschean standards) is widely believed to be linked to the fact he had syphilis. In other words, he lost his marbles - to say the least - after a certain point.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
28 Oct 09 UTC
Aye, I'm aware of that, and was just commenting on the fact that the way you separated "he had syphilis" and he "wasn't exactly right in the head", suggested that your concern may have been that the meeting would have been sufficiently intimate for you to also have syphilis after. ;)

anyway, nvmind.
SteevoKun (588 D)
28 Oct 09 UTC
I know what you were suggesting TGM. =P I don't really go for guys with massively bushy mustaches, lol.

I don't know all the ways it can be communicated, but I do believe you can actually get syphilis on non-sexual parts of your body - though that may be for the same reason that syphilis can spread to your central nervous system.

obiwanobiwan (248 D)

Well, come on- I LIKE people who perhaps aren't quite right in the head... they're not BORING. I can't stand the normal person (which yes is a fallacy as everyone IS different, but I think you know what I mean...)

And his ideas are GENIUS... when they're not being bastardized and twisted by people in white bedsheets or shaven heads or toothbrush mustaches. ;)

Groucho... yes, that's obvious (who WOULDN'T want to meet him, hilarious guy, one of the top three funniest people of the last century in my opinion... another would have to be Johnny Carson... and you can choose the third but it better not be Jim Carrey or Robin Williams- both good, but both also a bit overhyped and can't hold a candle to Groucho or Johnny.)

Napoleon I'd like to see because of the obvious fame and military brilliance- but also to see how truly reformist he was. I mean, he ended republican rule in France as it was having issues in the Reign of Terror, but he also emancipated the Jews from their ghettoes... civil liberties denied but religious tolerance increased? That's interesting!

JFK- first question: "How many women DID you get away with?" ;)

MLK... I dunno... but it'd be awesome to his view on Obama! Can you imagine the tension that would build if we could somehow find out what he thought of Obama- whether he'd be pro or con, the nation would be tuned into his every word... even more than usual. ;)

Shakespeare and Poe- pretty obvious.

i kinda jumped into this thread way late in the game. and true to form, the thread has morphed into a bird of a different color (may not even be a bird at all...)

id like to mee the people from the "great" state of kentucky. i know jacob, chalks, mburton0042 and a spattering of other folks here. ive only played one ftf game and im itching for a second one. my wife owes me big come next year's b-day. i might try to scandal off a gen-con ticket XD

that and meet jesus in the flesh. i know his voice.

Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

i dunno. i havent been to origins since the 90s. im sure they have a site out there.

do they still send you booklets in the mail or have they gone electronic via the web like gen con?
djbent (2572 D(S))

wait, who said gjdip is a girl. is that true? wow, are numbers continue to expand exponentially!!! ;D
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

No, it isn't true.

oh, the lies, lies...
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
28 Oct 09 UTC
Thanks for saying you'd like to meet me djbent, the feeling is mutual!

Off the top of my head, my list is as follows:
Sean, Kestas, Flashman (actually already met him, but a second time would be fun) would be my top three - there are far more out there though.
Xapi (194 D)
28 Oct 09 UTC
"Sayjo the Lion-Hearted, Draugnar, Centurian, Crazyter, StevenC., Pyromancer, and cgwhite32"

I think she was talking about the participants in Sayjo's Master's game...
djbent (2572 D(S))
28 Oct 09 UTC
haha thanks for clarifying Xapi - i didn't want to be mean though so i let it be!!

i wouldn't mind to meet a lot of people on here, but i think i agree more with Maniac and Centurian - it's nice to have an image of someone and have a relationship that doesn't leave the online world.

Off the top of my head:
1. Edi Birsan (aka the "Chuck Norris" of Dip): Almost went to origins, against my wife's wishes, just to meet him this past year (BTW - origins is late June in 2010, Draug)
2. DjBent: Played sooo many games with her, I figure I should at least meet her ;)
3. Marx, Jacob, & Babak: Meet the slimy bastards[1], themselves. "Slimy Bastards" in the "in game" sense, so please take that as a big compliment
4. Kestas: To guide him from the darkness to the light (PHP to Java) ;)
5. TheGhostMaker: The rare one I've talked to outside the game
6. Draugnar: Since he's like 10 minutes away (want to meet for lunch downtown sometime?)

I'm missing some that I'll punch myself about later, I'm sure.
LanGaidin (1509 D)

@ djb, that was my bad. I meant to put gjdip in the like normal category and Akroma in the other one (albeit I haven't been in a game w/ her yet, but have read posts and heard positive things from those who have).
I'm almost glad I'm not in anyone's list. That means I can continue to randomly change my approach at this game unrestricted lol :P

I forgot to add Sayjo the Lion-Hearted =P

Avoiding reading the messages in Haiku and League C3 Autumn 2009, Game 1...
Stopped in for half an hour to say hi. I don't want to go read them because the login will reset my NMR count towards CD status and that isn't fair to the other players in Haiku. I'm sure the League game is paused...

Anyhow, hi y'all. I better get back to work while the rest of the house is sleeping.
