Poetry opportunities..?
There used to be great organizations that worked through my school for poetry in youth, but now that I actually have an appreciation for poetry it seems like there aren't as many opportunities to perform or compete with poems.
Is anyone aware of prominent high school poetry organizations?

Is this game getting less popular?
I remember using this site years ago and I felt I could always find games to join, or if I made a game it would fill up in a couple of days at most.

Is there another site that people are using to play? It still seems like this one is the best at least from my quick google.

Must See Movie Reccomendations
So I like movies a lot and one of my goals in life is to watch every movie that is worth watching. I've seen most of AFIs top 100 and I have a to-watch list that is 168 films and counting. As such, I was curious if anyone here has some must-see movies that I may not know about.

The Arab Spring was a horrible failure
Can you name any countries that benefitted from the Arab Spring? Libya is literally a slave-state, Egyptians overthrew one leader only to overthrow the next, Iranian arab spring failed, Syria is a bloodbath. Is there a single positive that came from this movement?

Why no love for Sum of Squares scoring?
Personally, I'm not a big fan of Draw Size scoring, because it rewards the power that hung on with one dot the same as the 17 SC power that was a hair away from the solo.

What I've noticed is that almost every new game is Draw Size Scoring. Is that just because it's the default option or are players here just not fond of it.

The Paris Uprising of 1832 was a horrible failure
Can you name any characters that benefited from the Paris Uprising of 1832? Éponine is literally and figuratively heartbroken, Jean Valjean overcame Javert only to die of old age in the next bloody act. Is there a single positive that came from this musical?

Who Are The Real Dinosaurs In Congress?
Republicans do a better job of promoting younger members, in part because they limit, to six years, the length of time a member can be chairman or chairwoman of a committee. Democrats do not impose term limits on committee leaders or so-called ranking members, the top slot for lawmakers who are in the minority.

"But how likely is it that you'll miss the context of many threads?"

Actually goldeen, just the other day, MM directed a very condescending post at me because he did not see what I was actually replying to as he had the person who's username I can't remember muted. It happens a lot.

Sitting children down in a room by themselves is silencing them entirely - removing them from a situation where they can't be heard, what you're proposing is we all sit in the same room but some of us wear ear plugs and hope we aren't the target of vitriol.

I normally apologize if I feel ive done something wrong that violates the rules on this forum. I feel no responsibility for this person being banned. He was a disgusting, waste of page space. That being said if you cant take a joke then dont go on the internet either. I make fun of Capt Brad all the time because hes clearly a lunatic who probably needs psychiatric help. That being said I enjoy brads presence. He adds a flavor to this forum. We need bumbling oafs and im fine being that liberal version of that.

My only apology would be for making the mods have to act and reply to kansas' worthless complaint emails he no doubt hounded them with. Good riddance.

As for the comments by Octavious and a number of others who it feels like need their arms twisted to support this decision, why am I not surprised. Youve never liked me and ive never much cared for yall either. But we exist. We coexist and you dont see me making incindiary flame posts aboiut you or screaming for mods everytime yall blast me on here. There was a while where I was the most hated person on here.

Id like to think ive grown on this place. ;)

You know why my conservative friends and family love me?

Because I can out argue them and prove their philosophies are flawed with a smile on my face, I can make them laugh, but it still doesnt change them. Its still fun tho. I like winning.
Ogion (3882 D)

To be clear, racism, sexism and the like exist because people have been willing to smile and look the other way for too long. Look at how people are bending over backwards to defend the child molester Roy Moore. This is a guy who opined from the bench that they should go easy on a guy who raped a four year old because there was "no clear indication of a serious threat." A four year old!

So, yes, it is incumbent that decent people draw a hard line and absolutely make life miserable for those who excuse the harm to others. Anything else is giving consent.

So, if KB gets himself in trouble by being confronted (which I stopped doing because I had him muted) that's his problem. The easy solution is to stop being a bigoted asshole.

Trying to frame that debate as oldies vs newbies is rather bemusing, given this discussion has come repeatedly for a long long time. Sure, you get different faces as time goes on, but that's not what draws the battlelines up.

I have to say that in all the years I've been moderating this site, I've interacted with a lot of people who could be described as "troublemakers". Some of them are banned now, some of them are not. Most of them could be perfectly reasonable at times. You could have normal conversations, respectful disagreements, and they were quite human. Then, sometimes, they would be "set-off" as it were and go on a bit of a rampage, resulting in moderator involvement being required. KansasBoyd, however, is the only individual I can remember who was *always* on one of those rampages, and completely and utterly unable to have a respectful discussion. Some of his PM harassment was launched at people who had done nothing whatsoever to provoke him in any way, for no apparent reason other than the fact that they were online. He is quite exceptional in this regard, and not pleasantly so.

Nobody else has been as consistently furious as KB, without any pause, detente, or even attempting to follow the rules. He was a complete negative in all those regards, and managed to take his forum drama and spread it into games as well, as opposed to other ex-users who were perfectly reasonable in games whilst going on their forum rampages. He will not be missed.

Hes just some loser on the internet with a hate for open minded people. Its over. I have concerns that he is unstable if hes literally trying to call the cops on webdip members and thinks anyone here gives a shit enough to actually track him down in real life...

I mean have yall ever been to kansas? You think nebraska is scary... fuck they dont even sell alcohol or have abortion clinics in kansas. Place is a desolate graveyard of lost Hayak-ian failed economics

(3) and while I have a large tolerance for how people choose to act and talk in game and forum, KB stood out immdiately his first game.
"He joined in 2011 and you joined in 2010?"

There's a lot of nuance to it that I would have trouble explaining.
bo is certainly one of the veteran users around today, don't get me wrong, but webdip generations are short. It's kinda like graduating classes in schools.

HR is right anyway, it's not _really_ an old kids / new kids thing. I was just amused to see that there was somewhat of a divide on the reaction here between people I remember from the WW forum days and people who were more prominent/active/etc. afterward. It was a different time.
JEccles (421 D)
25 Nov 17 UTC
(4) I agree with the comments saying we should be holding ourselves to a higher standard and not baiting people or targeting them specifically...
Also bo is definitely one of the people from the WW forum days. I just like messing with him because he was a high schooler when he started posting. Bo is my boi.
JEccles (421 D)

(5) but I also know that KB acted this way in the first game on the site before they were ever targeted, and their banning was well deserved.

I was one of those who “attacked” KB. And I stand by everything I’ve said to him. I did it because he was provoking and being an ass. It wasn’t because of politics, I agreed with some of his actual points. I tried polite discussion with him once and ended up regretting it.

As for the mute button, harassment is harassment. You can say "mute them" to anyone, whether they're the victim or the instigator or whether it flip flops depending on the situation, but that doesn't actually solve a problem. That just puts it off until the problem presents itself some other time, probably with some other people. It's a bad solution, one that you only want if you don't want a solution that actually solves your problems.
