A Series of Unfortunate Events
After re-reading a Series of Unfortunate Events (Which is still just as wonderful as it was eight or so years ago) I got very caught up in the Beatrice side story. It's very confusing and cryptic, and was wondering if anybody had there own opinions on it?

France's Macron statutorily raped by his high school teacher, quite possibly
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmanuel_Macron#Personal_life

He was also a member of the Socialist Party. Will the opposition be able to take advantage of these things? Runoff is on May 7th.

@ND: If you think the US election came down to "vote for Hilary if you like women" vs "vote for Donald if you prefer men" then I think you're mistaken. Personally I think Trump and Clinton are both awful - perhaps Trump is a bit more awful. That said, Trump is clearly a misogynist, and there was a fair bit of misogyny from some of his supporters too, sadly.

In France it's a shame there wasn't a socialist in the final runoff, but it came down to a moderate centrist versus a far-right ultra-nationalist. I've got no time for aggressive nationalism and I'm glad the National Front didn't win.

Well "blighter" is not a compliment, perhaps it's between boor and blaggard both alphabetically and in meaning. I rather like the word Boor. Along with Bore and Boar. It allows me to say ( verbally ) for example, that I consider Donald Trump to be a boor ( or bore or boar, since unlike writing, when spoken there is no clarification to be deduced from seeing it written, or by pronunciation ) in all three spellings and meanings. ( the verbal clarification )

Perhaps the reason your question was not answered in the way you would like, ND, is that it's a type of non sequitur... that's a fancy way to say that your question is based on false, illogical premises, and therefore deserves no answer, but instead, merely contempt.

Le Pen was a fierce nationalist and Eurosceptic. After Brexit has turned out to be a disaster, there was no way in hell Le Pen would win. I called a Macron victory back when Fillon's campaign tanked.
TrPrado (461 D)

And a Le Pen defeat I'd predicted even earlier, when Wilders lost in the Netherlands.

She still won one third of the votes. A strong anti-EU pro-Fascist element remains in france.

Though i suspect a large part of that is anti-status quo, which is a rather damning on the status quo (like Trump's election, and Brexit were - though both also ended parts of the status quo).
orathaic (1009 D(B))

@ND, your alternative choice was to vote for Trump - now given his misogynistic comments, voting for Trump was sexist.

Not voting for Hillary doesn't make you sexist. You could well have voted for Jill Stein.

But in the small minds of many Americans, there are only two choices, each as corrupt as the next.

France's 'primary' selected the two choices which would go to the run-off. So realistically they had far more choice. (Still not as good as STV, but miles better than your Electoral college). Your voting system is but one example of the democratic deficit in today's US.

Why was the ~9% percent of Voting "Neither of the 2 above" (not stayathomes), the Abstainers, as it were, not factored into the vote totals?
Were that stance's supporters at the far ends, Left & Right, of the circle of political Parties.
June's Parliamentary ballots - do they have "None of the Above" printed on them ?
TrPrado (461 D)
08 May 17 UTC
I know a lot of far left did. The right had an option they liked. But a lot of Communists either refused to go or decided to mark their ballots incorrectly so as not to be counted.

Ora: I could not have voted for Jill Stein. I was in one of 3 states that she could never have been an option due to her failure to achieve the requirements for electors in Oklahoma (which place an extra burden on unregistered parties like the Green Party (that statute is actually going to be changed very soon to place equal requirements)), and also not having a write in option (which would be incredibly difficult to account for in presidential races anyway).
orathaic (1009 D(B))

Fair enough TrPrado.

I stand by my answer to ND though. Voting for Trump is not the same as not voting for Hillary.

@Ora/@Prado, just in case you didn't know, Jill Stein was at Mike Flynn's table when he had dinner with Putin. See photo:

Putin had all of his bases covered.

@TrPrado

That's how they've spun it on the continent? I'm amazed. I was (and continue to be) firmly in the Remain camp, but so far Brexit has been far better than I'd dared hope. By what measure are they defining it a disaster?

Could Dolphins or Whales learn to play diplomacy
I was curious if Whales and Dolphins are capable of playing diplomacy. Either ftf or online. We could devise a helmet using donation money to fund marine biology experiments on these creatures. Study what openings they like; study their convoy choices. What do you think?

Civil disorder after 1 NMR?
Just an idea - I think countries should go into immediate civil disorder on 1 NMR so a new person can take over right away and keep the game going. The current system of a CD after 2 NMRs means a country + game can be ruined before a new player takes over.
