Jun 2015 GR Challenge - Game 1 EOGs
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=163864
Result: Two-way draw between England and Turkey (my first two-way draw!)

This was honestly a pretty cut-and-dry game for me. I can almost never say, but aside from small details, I wasn’t really once surprised by anything that happened in this game. I had fun, though, mostly because Austria-Turkey and England-Turkey are both fun alliances. EOG below.

Reliability Ratings and drop outs
We all have games where players losing drop out, but there are some which get utterly ruined by guys in pivotal positions going AWOL. Is it time that players who are proven unreliable have to sit out for a period?

Hi. What's new? :3 Um, something something Shakespeare...
And it's NFL Pick 'em Time...yes, time to pick a new commissioner! ;) Or, you know, divisions, wild cards, conference title games, and the Super Bowl winner. And of course the week by week picks--Steelers/Patriots go tomorrow, Sunday notables include Broncos/Ravens, Chargers/Lions, Giants/Cowboys, and my OH GOD WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE BLACK JERSEYS?! 49ers play Monday night! The Week 1 match-ups...pick 'em!

EXACTLY when does a game end?
In my set of rules, rule XIII indicates that possession of a SC only occurs after fall retreats have been completed. On this site, it seems that for purposes of determining a solo victory, a victory is declared following the fall diplomacy phase prior to retreats. For clarification: on a fall turn that great power A takes its 18th SC but great power B could then retreat into into one of country A's SCs, is country A awarded a win prior to that fall's retreats? Thank you.

Am I the only person that doesn't understand why they page layout is so narrow? there is significant space in the right and left margins for order information, game state information, and everything you need at a single glance, instead of all the scrolling i have to do. the layout is especially important because the page has to be refreshed constantly.

@ kahudd: "we are certainly in "don't feed the troll" territory"

Are you referring to me? Every quote I posted was a genuine quote from Donald Trump, presumably all uttered when he was refreshingly speaking his mind. The fact that some people actively want such an ignorant bigot to be their leader is quite worrying if you ask me.

Are we discussing whether or not Donald Trump is a joke or are we actually discussing whether or not there is merit in voting for him?

Either way:

• He told a contestant on "The Apprentice" that it would be a "pretty picture" to see her on her knees.
• He quoted a tweet that suggested that if Hillary Clinton can't "satisfy" her husband, she can't satisfy America.
• He told Megyn Kelly that the only reason she was asking him tough, real questions as opposed to the usual media fluff is that she must be on her period.
• He generalized undocumented immigrants as drug dealers, rapists, and criminals.
• His idea of foreign policy is to force Mexico to build a giant wall on the US-Mexico border.
• His other idea of foreign policy is to march into the Middle East and bomb the fuck outta them for oil.
• He gave out a senator's private phone number on national TV out of anger.
• He said POWs, specifically John McCain, aren't war heroes because they were captured and didn't really do anything while they were chained up and tortured.
• He said that Obama has been a disappointing President, therefore there won't be another black President for a long time.
• He said he would date his daughter if she wasn't his daughter.
• His ex wife claims that he raped her.
• He has the full support of the KKK leadership. People chant white power at his rallies. That should tell you a lot.

This dude is the figurehead that the rest of the world has been waiting for to point out how stupid the US's leadership is. How a guy with no political experience, open misogyny, racism, and lust for war after war, and a guy whose only public work prior to his run for President come from his reality TV show is set to win the Republican nomination is beyond incredible. He's a businessman. Whether he wins or loses, he's gonna line his pockets, he's gonna fuel his ridiculous ego, and he's gonna go spend thousands to keep his hair from falling out. His nomination would be a joke that would show just how powerful stupid people can be in large numbers.

Lol of course Octavious is a UKIP supporter, and of course Santa insists on the old narrow, academic meaning of "fascism," given that be supports the fascist policies of Israel.

Look, since you haven't read a book since 1942, let me update you on how the word's meaning has changed.

The year is 1945, and the fascist governments have been defeated at war. Shocked by the full extent of the holocaust and all the devastation of the war, the general public repudiated fascism as a concept. Then, as the years went on, and people were thinking more directly about what went wrong in Germany, and so on, they started to identify *general, unifying trends and characteristics* that made the fascist governments so fucked up. And those properties increasingly were associated with the word the governments used to describe themselves: fascism.

And so now, fascism means pretty much exactly what jamiet listed, though of course the details are debatable, but the broad form is clear.

And thus it is not an intellectual leap at all to characterize the Trump campaign as fascist or neo-fascist if you like, nor the Front National, not Israel, ironically.

If you want to insist on the old, arcane meaning, we can't stop you, but it doesn't make you any less wrong. I can tell from this thread alone that im not the only one who understands what the term fascism refers to in 2015. And indeed as I implied in the first lines of this post, it is highly likely that willfully obscuring what fascism means modernly is something people with a political agenda do, i.e. A support of Israel for example who understands that the modern definition of a fascist society *applies to israel* will attempt to deny the broad understanding of the term's existence of validity, so as to avoid justified comparisons with, well, other fascist regimes.

Santa, you support Israel policies?

Anyway, Thucy, I'm under the impression that you've been discussing over a semantic point that goes nowhere. What's the actual definition of a word, for me, cannot have less importance. The important thing is that everyone agree with the definition, and then move to analyze the implications of that definition. To get stuck with semantic discussions only avoids us to analyze things any further.

Furthermore, discussion with definition A or B, are totally equivalent. For example:

A. "fascism is any set of ideas that has certain specific parallelisms with the set of ideas Mussolini's group held" then "Trump is a fascist"

is absolutly quivalent to

B. "fascism is that set of ideas Mussolini's group held" the "Trump has certain specific parallelisms with fascism"

What we must do now is to move on and analyze which are those parallelism, and why should we worry about them

Call me out, right. It seems like there's a wide consensus that you are the one using the word for political motives. Anything you don't agree with = fascist.

There is no way to justify much of Israeli policy. Literally. It's just as futile as justifying the genocides here in the United States with the indigenous natives and slaves. You can't.
You use literally as well as Thucydides uses fascist

I've supported Israeli policies in the past, under the current government I don't. I believe in a secure Israeli state along the lines of the post independence borders with jewish self rule. I also believe in a secure Palestinian state at peace with Israel and a shared capitol in Jerusalem. I support policies that work closer to that goal, so as I said, I do not support the policies of this government.
Ok an apple is an orange, you are so persuasive.

There's a Dilbert joke you've just reminded me of:

Boss: "You can't compare apples and oranges."
Dilbert: "That's clearly wrong, because you just compared them and declared them different."
Wally: "Apples and oranges are both foods that grow on trees. It would be totally valid to compare them nutritionally."
Dilbert (to boss): "I've noticed that a lot of what comes out of your mouth makes no sense."
Boss: "You sound like my wife."
Wally: "You can't compare your wife to your employee. That's apples and oranges."
Delbert is a fascist

Suggestion
This website should have statistics for each country of each map (wins, draws, losses, etc.) like vdiplomacy.

I know this is a feature request and I'm supposed to check the todo list, but the forum that the "todo list" link directs to doesn't seem to have been used since last year, and I can't seem to find the actual list anywhere.
