planes and air travel
So i was thinking that it would be really cool to have a way to add an air force into this game and i think ive got a way. air forces would be units with long ranges. Of travel however they would only be able to support or "convoy" a unit

What is the point in gunboat games?
I have played a live gunboat on classic, after I managed to contain myself for a long time of participating in such an event because I could not imagince such an arrangement to be funny. And indeed, without the option to plot against your foes (and friends, of course...well mostly your friends) this game just misses so much.

POLITICAL BIAS REMINDER THREAD
Please post a daily reminder HERE AND ONLY HERE that this forum is being actively manipulated and does not actually reflect anything like mainstream views.

Doing so will reassure fiedler and counterbalance the disruptive influence of the tumblrfags.

This thread must be bumped. O webDiplomacy, woe is thee! The tumblrfags and libtards have won. This thread has fallen into the pages, dead as a doorknob. Thread is dead. Thread remains dead. And we have killed it. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? Now how can we remind those who see this forum that the people here are very typically biased in a somewhat liberal manner? And the people like krellin, fiedler, and certain others that may be extremely vocal, but they are very much a minority on this site. Oh, how sorry I feel for ye, forum of webDip.

To say that Hitler was not a (morality debate removed) "great man" is childish. Of course he was a "great" man -- he turned a nations economy around (yes, by creating enemies the nation could rally around), he created a great army under the noses of his enemies, and he came damned close to conquering Europe. He rallied people to do awesome (and horrible) things....he was a great man in that he accomplished things that the collective body OF WebDiplomacy combined will never be able to accomplish (in terms of change/outcome....not good versus evil).

@Dear Krellin,

From other thread I know by now how much you love Putin. This combined with your message about Hitler gives me quite the impression about the men you like. But just as Putin is, Hitler was a mad-man. Hitler failed strategically BIG TIME, so there's that. In terms of "doing awesome things" I have to disagree as well. I take it that you mean other things that created a system of killing people by the millions and actually making money of it, which while a disgrace to human race, was quite impressive in fact. The rest was just as close to a dream of a madman as holocaust, but much less effective or efficient. The history of Nazi Germany is littered with examples of how he got fixated on one particular idea, often extremely costly, that would never turn out to be as useful or successful as planned - V2 and even more ridiculous V3, the railway guns, fortifications in Norway, whole campaign against Russia, all just to fulfill his whims. All tyrants share the love for huge projects (Sochi 2014 ?= Berlin 1936), but as it turns out those project almost never deliver.

@Tyran, I think Napoleon might have actually been a better strategist in terms of military, but not so much politically. Then again, one might wonder what amount of Hitler's political power came from his Hitler's little helpers like Goebbels.
Tyran (914 D)
16 Feb 15 UTC
@yassem, I'll give you that much. Napoleon was clearly a much better strategist. Hitlers military genius came from the generals under him like Rommel. Napoleon planned his own battles. However they both made the same mistake in attacking Russia which led to their eventual downfall. Politically I believe Napoleon might be more skilled than you give him credit. He managed to ride a wave of popular support to leadership of France and then defeated and made allies of most of Europe and convinced many nations to boycott English goods/shipping. Hitler politically did have a lot of helpers but he also was clever enough to ride popular support/unrest to the top. He then had his right hand man killed to prevent him from having power comparable to his own. He was a great speaker and held political power well. He annexed Austria and Czech Republic without much complaint and politically guided his nation into radically supporting him and his policies no matter how heinous.
yassem (2533 D)
16 Feb 15 UTC
That's true. Of course, there are many similarities between Napoleon and Hitler, I am not arguing that. Politically speaking I was thinking about dealing with the political elites - of course I wouldn't deny Napoleon neither the way of handling the people, nor the diplomatic skills (fun fact: he is one of Polish national heroes, featured in our anthem).
Two points though: I wouldn't consider the trade war with the English a success AT ALL, but that is mostly due to economic reasons rather than diplomatic.
Secondly, I would even go further in case of Hitler and say that on many occasions Hitler's obstinacy effectively handicapped the abilities of his gifted generals, proving disastrous for German troops.
P.S. In terms of annexing other countries and guiding nation into giving its blind support Hitler might be much closer to one particular contemporary leader, but that was discussed already in other thread.
Tyran (914 D)
16 Feb 15 UTC
Because he freed Poland from Prussia and Austria for that brief while yes?
Tyran (914 D)
16 Feb 15 UTC
That is true. The trade war was an economic failure for the French and their allies but politically and diplomatically it was a temporary success.
As for hitler and his ineptitude yes it did cause many losses that his generals could've prevented and he did go off on his own little wars.

@Tyran, yes, he created a very short-lived polish state called Duchy of Warsaw. And he was generally nice to Polish, there were Polish legions in he's army, which was very good for maintaining national identity and so on.

@Fiedler, THE LIEEEEEEEES, THOSE TERRIBLE LIES EVERYWHERE!
Tyran (914 D)

Napoleon had a thing for doing that. Inspiring nationalism in places where it was sorely lacking up until then. Inspiring German and Italian nationalism and polish as well. Another thing that makes him a great man.

Ah, shiznip! I must express the grievances of our dearest fiedler by reminding the general public of the biases that reside here. The biases that ruined this beauty. They came in and put a Hitler-stache on the thread to deter people from looking here, but join me n an attempt to shave this thread of its Hitler-stache. Join me in making our dearest fiedler a happy camper again. Oh, how we shall grieve. But wait! Who is this to save the day? 'Tis the great and glorious TrPrado, come to punch the Hitler in the face!! We are saved! The biases of this forum may or may not exist in the real world. No. They exist only in the mind of the Hitler-Stache Community. Where everything must have such a moustache. It sickens real humans, and these are not real humans. Do not trust them. Especially don't trust them when you're playing Diplomacy with them. Fly you fools.

5 on 5 Challange
I am looking for five friends that would be willing to challenge a group of my friends on a five on five game. It is more of a strategic game and not a emotional backstabbing game when you play in just two teams. If interested just post on here or pm me. If you don't have a group of five friends who play you could try to create a group through this thread.
For all who are brave enough.
Challenge me.
