vdiplomacy login problems
Apparently my username doesn't seem to exist on vdiplomacy. I have tried contacting the mods about this but I have received no response months later. Does anyone here know what I can do, or if I am allowed to create another account identical to this one on vdip?

Since no additional nominations were made I added the Olmec Civilization to round out our 16. The purpose was to give the New World a second nominee. Balancing the tournament. Europe has 4 nominations: Rome, Celtic, Athens, Macedonia. Middle East/Africa has 5 nominations: Egypt, Carthage, Persia, Byzantine, Neo-Assyria. East Asia/ Oceania has 5 nominations: Shu Han, Lapita, Champa, Aboriginal, and Kushan.

This link is our tournament bracket. A schedule will be added shortly.

The tournament will broken down into 4 stages. The group stage is the longest and most complicated. the 16 civs have been separated into 4 groups. These four groups can each send two civs into the quarter finals. The winner of the "simple bracket" (Game 3 of every group) will immediately proceed. Game 4 of each group will be a 3-way match in which only 1 civ may proceed. The remaining 3 stages are simple elimination and the tournament will crown a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Voting in matches will be formatted as follows: ##VOTE: (Civ name here) . When voting either the full name in the tournament link or the 3 letter abbreviation are acceptable. In other words ##VOTE:Kush is not acceptable. "##VOTE: KSN" or "##VOTE: Kushan" are the only acceptable votes.

As GM I will only vote in the event of a tie I may argue in favor of a civ but I will not cast a vote. each round will be 48 hrs and will end on the midnight of the 2nd day. So this round will end on 6/22/16 at 11:59:59 PM US-EST
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
21 Jun 16 UTC
Also anyone can vote even if you didn't nominate or are finding us just now. The intent is to have this grow so that by the final we have dozens of people debating for the champion of civs
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

(also I think the best part of this will be the 3-way matches in each group)

I am personally in favor of the Mayan civ this round. While the aboriginal culture was large and survives today. Even at their height the aboriginals did not reach the technological and scientific achievements of the maya. In this round I'm viewing a civilization that built pyramids into the sky to a culture which barely qualifies as an organized civilization. For me the vote is simple.

You really devalue the greatness of aboriginal culture. It is remarkable on several counts:

1. The belief that man is a custodian of the land, not the exploiter. We the uninitiated are still trying to get around to this concept.
2. The rich history of art. This is due to the integral importance of music, art and story in Aboriginal culture, which dates to several thousand years ago.
3. It is a testament to the vitality of their culture that it has managed to survive repeated attempts of eradication by White Australia policies. Mayan culture has almost been eradicated by the Spanish invasion. While some pockets of traditional Mayan society remain in the countryside, they are of far lesser prominence than Australian aboriginal life.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
21 Jun 16 UTC
I concede that the aboriginal culture is long lasting and strong but there are few things you've listed that Mayan culture doesn't also have. Take for example the rich art history, have you seen the ornate details of Mayan carvings, and wall paintings? Too say nothing of their armor and traditional dress.

Then we consider the astrological achievements of Mayan culture, and their ability to plan out until 2012.

And while a culture aware of their impact on earth is admirable I hardly consider it eclipsing of the architecture, astronomy, engineering, and art. Also consider that aboriginal culture wasn't assaulted until almost 300 years after the Mayans and by a culture more keen on enslaving than genociding. (This is to say that compared to the 1400s Spain the 1700s English were far less genocidal)
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

I contend that had the 1400s Spanish Armada landed on the Australian continent the number of surviving aboriginal tribes would be greatly reduced.

I'm gonna have to go with the Maya on this one. The extensive Mayan civilization just seems more impressive than Aboriginal culture from a modern standpoint.
I would, however, like to point out two facts about the Maya that seem to have been missed thus far:
1. The Maya civilization collapsed back in the 9th century. Any Mayans encountered by the Spanish were merely remnants of this fallen empire. (I use 'empire' loosely ; Mayans were more of a collection of city-states)
2. The Mayans never invented the wheel. Whether this makes their achievements more or less impressive is left for your own opinions.

With that said,

Civilizations should not be measured by there tec...but by their resilience..

Is our energy driven unsustainable crowded 'civilization " better than one that lives within its means has seen tec civs rise and fall many many times ..I live in the tec society but do not believe its the best way to live. aboriginal vote from me obviously..

Private game needing players
Hey guys me and my friends are trying to host a private game of diplomacy because we have a 24 hour train ride. Our skill levels are mixed with many of the players only playing their third or fourth game while a couple of us have been playing for years. If anyone is willing to join gameID=181450 let me know and I'll give you the password. The only stipulation is you need to be able to chat on kik messenger. Thank you!

How do you end a drawn game when 1 player doesn't vote to draw.
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=180889#gamePanel
I am playing France, the Italian player won't vote draw. Nobody has moved positions for maybe 4, 5 or 6 moves. It's a pain to keep entering the same set of orders, it is obviously a draw. What to do?
