The problem is that the tariff you are specificalky referring to is the slaves... Kind of a slippery slope argument to make. Thats like if say someone makes a thread about rape, another about incest, another about slaves, and another about a book club by the very same day someone less liked gets punished for spamming... Lincoln didn't want to make it about slavery, but he most definitely didn't make it about tariffs either. By the time he issued the Emancipation Proclemation, he would have said outright it had everything to do with slavery, just as the South always saw it.

The tariff only increased because the south left the federal government. What an odd way to protest a tariff.
