FtF Diplomacy in Connecticut
Do you live in or near Connecticut? Do you like Diplomacy? Do you want to bite your thumb at France in person after you move to English Channel Spring 1901 even though you said you wouldn’t? Of course you do! So why not come play Diplomacy face to face?

Yeah, fulhamish, it's almost like coming up with natural selection didn't magically make Darwin right about everything, and he carried the ordinary prejudices of his time. Fucking imagine that.

Ah yes 'a man of his time'. Well I wonder if I did did some research whether I could find other men of that time, or come to that any time, who wern't racist? What do you honestly think? I would bet the crown jewels on it.

Hey remember when William Wilberforce argued against abolishing the slavery and boycotted female anti-slavery societies because of the popularity of immediate abolitionism and Elizabeth Heyrick? That was fun.

That's Fulham's Christian hero right there. The guy he clings to in order to claim that Christianity has ever been progressive about anything race-related. He smears Darwin while defending the CSA.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Please look up the Anglican Church's views on race and slavery at the time of Darwin (who was an ardent abolitionist). Please look how much the Anglican Church itself trafficked in slaves. Oh that's right they had to issue an apology because they were neck deep in it.
fulhamish (4134 D)

Hey Putin deal with the quote or lose the argument with your ah attacks
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Your entire case against Darwin is ad hominem and always has been. You never deal with the science because you wouldn't dare.
fulhamish (4134 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
And if you want a good reference on slavery, the church and 'men of their time' may I suggest the lancashire cotton famine?
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Hey Fulham why don't you say some nice things about the Confederacy again while pretending you care about racism.
fulhamish (4134 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Well the quote remains.
fulhamish (4134 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
What have I said nice about the Confederacy? Ah yes I remember that the war was, in my opinion just as much about tarrifs as it was about slavery. Talk about 'twisted minds'!
fulhamish (4134 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Lets be clear on the science naturl selection is in my view the best explanation for the variety of life we have on Earth. Full Stop - Period. Where else to you want to go from there/ let's hear your hypothesis'?
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
"Our new government (Confederate States of America) is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth." - Alexander Stephens, VP of the Confederacy, Fulham's hero.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
"Ah yes I remember that the war was, in my opinion just as much about tarrifs as it was about slavery. "

Bullshit. You have repeatedly dismissed the centrality of slavery to the war and use all manner of obfuscation to make the claim that the war was caused by the greed of the north.
TrPrado (461 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC

Even Andrew Jackson could have told you the Civil War was more about slaves than tariffs, and by then he was dead.
fulhamish (4134 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Alexander Stephens, VP of the Confederacy, Fulham's hero

Prove that or withdraw it. Come on find the place where I said that.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Well since you have repeatedly denied the Confederacy's secession and war of aggression was predicated on the preservation of slavery I don't see why you'd care about the quote at all. A minor detail in your effort to rewrite history on behalf of the Slaveocracy.
fulhamish (4134 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
I do dismiss the centrality or uniqueness of slavery yes......................

If there be those who would not save the Union unless they could at the same time destroy Slavery, I do not agree with them. My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or destroy Slavery.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Remember when Fulham said the attack on Fort Sumter that launched the war was done because the north was collecting tariffs there? LOL.
fulhamish (4134 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Is that a withdrawl? it sounds a little like it. Now you have missed this one:

Lets be clear on the science naturl selection is in my view the best explanation for the variety of life we have on Earth. Full Stop - Period. Where else to you want to go from there/ let's hear your hypothesis'?
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
"I do dismiss the centrality or uniqueness of slavery yes......................"

And you happily ignore all the Confederate statements which say exactly the opposite. Because why let little details like facts get in the way of your propaganda?

brainbomb (290 D)

The problem is that the tariff you are specificalky referring to is the slaves... Kind of a slippery slope argument to make. Thats like if say someone makes a thread about rape, another about incest, another about slaves, and another about a book club by the very same day someone less liked gets punished for spamming... Well you can see why this thread is acceptable and clearly good for the community. Im just sad we cant fill up more space with threads like "why the south should have won, why trump is best for america, why rape is totally acceptable, and why these threads are great for attracting new users to webdip. keep up the great work guys.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
"You think slavery is right and ought to be extended; while we think it is wrong and ought to be restricted. That I suppose is the rub. It certainly is the only substantial difference between us."

Lincoln to Stephens Dec. 22, 1860.

But naturally slavery wasn't the central issue.
TrPrado (461 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Lincoln didn't want to make it about slavery, but he most definitely didn't make it about tariffs either. By the time he issued the Emancipation Proclemation, he would have said outright it had everything to do with slavery, just as the South always saw it.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
The tariff only increased because the south left the federal government. What an odd way to protest a tariff.
fulhamish (4134 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Or yes that last quote was from Abe Lincoln
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
"Lets be clear on the science naturl selection is in my view the best explanation for the variety of life we have on Earth."

So you've given up on your adherence to "intelligent design" then?

The Pantheon's Oculus, an original brainbomb theory
So I recently did a lecture on the Pantheon. I find it interesting becuse it is a perfect example of the use of the Roman invention of the Dome and also the use of Corinthian Columns (the signature Roman column).
But at its center is the Oculus, a hole in the dome intended for structural support which allows the interior of the Pantheon to be illuminated.

Supreme Court Deadlock (US, abortion)
It is in all the big news websites, what do people think. Is this texan law an undue burden? Should the supreme court make a decision or pass it back down? Will republicans regret blocking Obama is the lower courts start making all the decisions?

Book Club
Is anyone interested in starting a book club.

Where we pick a book each month and debate that issues it raises on the forum? (sign up below) I'm thinking of things which are political/economic books like 'Guns, Germs and Steel' by Jared Diamond, or 'Hot, Flay and Crowded' buy Thomas Friedman.

Replacement wanted
Oz in gameID=171427 is being replaced due to inactivity. Please note that this is a special rules roleplaying thread. To see the original rules, see viewthread=1325508 . Know that this game takes dedication, as it will quite possibly last many more months, and there are more than 60 pages of message archives.
