The Pantheon's Oculus, an original brainbomb theory
So I recently did a lecture on the Pantheon. I find it interesting becuse it is a perfect example of the use of the Roman invention of the Dome and also the use of Corinthian Columns (the signature Roman column).
But at its center is the Oculus, a hole in the dome intended for structural support which allows the interior of the Pantheon to be illuminated.

In honour of this significant milestone I am wiping out 4.454% of the interest accumulated on the UKIP general election bet you have thanklessly avoiding paying :).
Jamiet99uk (898 D)

What was the nature of the bet? UKIP returned far fewer MPs than some had predicted... Was that it? Did Octavious bet that UKIP would not return 20 MPs and "hold the balance of power" as some had foolishly anticipated?

UKIP polled 12.6 % and got one seat. Lib dems polled 7.9 % with 8 seats, come to that SNP polled 4.7 % and got 56 seats!

Proportional representation anyone?
Maniac (189 D(B))

Did I bet UKIP would have more than 1 MP? I think I did, did I bet some of my diplomacy points? If so how many, where is the thread?

I find calibrating round numbers is tiresome, they're just prima-Donna types, random milestones are worth celibrating.
Not to hijack Maniac's fascinating post, but to respond to fulhamish: a) fuck UKIP.

Secondly, and what I actually wanted to say, is that really there should be one house with constituencies, and one house done by PR. It's an idea that's been floated around in House of Lord reform talk, but there is some worth in having MPs that represent their specific constituents...
Maniac (189 D(B))

There is some merit in having MPs represent constituencies and we need a PR system that can still reflect that. We could have 400 constituancies with all FpTP MPs elected and then add 200 MPs chosen by PR. I like having House of Lords reform, but if we keep House of Commons as FpTP little will change.

a) Ah Socrates D. you give too much away about your personal life by revealing your sexual preferences. Is it anyone in particular you had in mind? Farage perhaps? :-)

As to the rest of your post - I agree.
Sorry, just to add, in response to Maniac, I wasn't saying that the House of Commons should be FpTP and Lords PR. I'm not sure I'm even opposed to a house with PR, and with FpTP, although I'm a tad skeptical. I would think two separate houses, but both having more power than the current House of Lords. Anyways, I will stop boring y'all with these views.

@fulhamish - Farage is certainly the most charming man this side of the pond. And I'm glad that you agree :-).

Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

Yuck. Either abolish the House of Lords and make the Commons PR (STV, preferably, but more realistically AMS) and have a unicameral chamber; or leave the Lords as it is. Giving them more power is a no; and fuck senates. Though do the PR thing either way :).

As for UKIP - It's annoying they're pretty much the face of Euroscepticism in Britain. Labour keep asking me, as a loyal party member, to donate to the "Remain" campaign. Very dull. At least the Labour "Lexit" (Leftist-Exit?) Group could email me once in a while eh? I'd donate to them. There's no way I'm donating money to anything UKIP or Tory run though.

Supreme Court Deadlock (US, abortion)
It is in all the big news websites, what do people think. Is this texan law an undue burden? Should the supreme court make a decision or pass it back down? Will republicans regret blocking Obama is the lower courts start making all the decisions?

Book Club
Is anyone interested in starting a book club.

Where we pick a book each month and debate that issues it raises on the forum? (sign up below) I'm thinking of things which are political/economic books like 'Guns, Germs and Steel' by Jared Diamond, or 'Hot, Flay and Crowded' buy Thomas Friedman.

Oz in gameID=171427 is being replaced due to inactivity. Please note that this is a special rules roleplaying thread. To see the original rules, see viewthread=1325508 . Know that this game takes dedication, as it will quite possibly last many more months, and there are more than 60 pages of message archives.
