Civ 5 thread
Old one got locked or I can't find it.

Talked to mendax and I think we should try to get a Civ game going soon. Post here if interested and we'll work out a time and such.

Incidents of Cheating on the Rise?
Is it just me, or does it seem that (once again) the site is going through a period of increased cheating activity? Personally, I've noticed such, especially in GB games in which communication between powers is strikingly obvious.

Thoughts?

Khan Dynasty
I'm watching a show about Kublai Khan and it's interesting, if not, I'm sure, woefully inaccurate. I'll have some time around the holidays and was hoping someone could recommend a good book about Gengis/Kublai/Khan Dynasty.

Start game without all players
Is there a way to have a new game start without all the player slots filled? I have had several games canceled because every slot has not been filled.
Over the upcoming vacation, I would like to start a game, possibly a World Diplomacy variant, for many players, but I can not count on filling every country. Any ideas here?

webDip Player Map
We used to have a Player Map, but it seems like the server it was stored on is gone. I've started a new one here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zkz1OHicklqk.ky67Va8gNVi0

Post your city here (no street address, please) and I'll add you to the map!

I think you're referring to the North Market, which is a great place. They have some great (and cheap) Vietnamese sandwiches too.

I've never really hung around Hilliard as I live about 20 mins or so away from there. Seems like a bunch of office barracks/buildings over there. I used to work on the west side near Hilliard but that was a brief hellish period of my life so I try to forget about it. The commute took forever.

I used to live in Columbus -- grew up in Dublin and went to school at Ohio State. How are there more webdippers from there than from LA?

North Market is awesome. Also, Jenis. That's the one place I have to go every time I go back.

Yeah Wexner always has interesting exhibits and independent films. They did an Andy Warhol thing a few years back that I enjoyed, and it's very close to my dept's building.

Do you recall any of the pizza places you tried?
If I have to choose, go with Ewing, I'll be there more often.
peterwiggin (15158 D)

@putin Wait, are you on faculty at OSU? I remember that Andy Warhol exhibit!

The only good pizza place I know of in Columbus is Flying Pizza/Taste of NY/whatever they call themselves these days, and compared to what you can actually find in NYC, it's just mediocre, so your ex just has bad taste in pizza.

Good places to eat though . . . there's a South American place downtown called El Arepazo that's really good, and there's an Ethiopian place called Blue Nile near campus that's good too. Mostly though, I just go to Jenis -- it doesn't leave me with too much more eating-out money!

@ Peterwiggin

No, not on the faculty, but I was a grad student there (polisci, Derby Hall) until this summer, taught courses for a few years. El Arepazo (probably my favorite restaurant in Cbus) just moved to a new location, I haven't been yet, but it's bigger and now open for dinner too. I regret to inform you that the Blue Nile is now closed. They turned it into the "New" Taj Mahal (Indian restaurant).

"Mostly though, I just go to Jenis -- it doesn't leave me with too much more eating-out money!"

No kidding, $12 a pint. They're good, but not worth the money, imo.

As for pizza, Mikey's Late Night Slice is kinda NYC style, and decent.

Terrorism in historical perspective
An article by the late Fred Halliday. It's a quick read, but interesting nonetheless. Recent forum posts made me think of it, although it was written pre-ISIS.

Mute in games
When an opponent stabs you, it's annoying, of course - but it's all part of the game, and I always attempt to keep communications open in case something can be salvaged later on.

When an opponent stabs you, and also immediately mutes you in the game.... what the actual fuck?
