@ghug - That was a continuation from a previously locked thread that was locked unjustly (and I got that from Kestas that the original thread should never have been locked) so it really isn't a thread that meets the definition. As far as DDOS threats and the like, in every one of those same threads someone else came out and cursed as well, if just to call me a name.

??? What are you trying to say Gerry? We know the universe is expanding due to the Doppler shift in the stars. W can't see "the other side" of the universe. If we could, we would know it *wasn't* infinite, but was finite and we know no such thing.

we know the universe is infinite through some tricky math and we can see a discernible "edge" but it's mostly just red-shifted light dating back to the beginning of the big bang, you can't really see beyond it.

It's just under an hour but well worth a watch, lots of great little info and I think this is where the concept of "we're all star stuff" originally came from (that's now used by Bill Nye, Neil Degrasse, etc.)

Again, we don't have to exceed the speed of light with a generational ship. Just because we can't build one now doesn't mean we never will be able to. When applied to our space program (which it does quite nicely) Moore's Law makes it pretty clear we have a strong probability of doing so before the heat death of the Sun.

this is still patently 100% not true. Going past the speed of light (which is not possible) does not have anything to do with whether or not we will notice or meet extraterrestrial life
