Christmas Music: How Soon is too Soon?
A local station went to an all-Christmas-music format last Monday. I say that's too early. What's your personal acceptable threshold for listening to Christmas music?

Zimmerman arrested for pointing shotgun at girl friend
George Zimmerman arrested again on multiple charges for threatening his girl friend with a shotgun. If this had happened before the trial it would have established of history of solving problems with violence.

Comics!
The missus is teaching a college-level art history class, and has reached the unit on comics, both comic books and comic strips. She requests your thoughts on the following question: What single work/artist would you say has had a major impact on the development of comics as an art form?

Mold on a HotDog...
We just found mold on a hot dog in our fridge...which I must say i was quite surprised to find. I truly thought the hot dog was invincible...

My faith in modern food science is slightly diminished. If anyone has encouraging words for me, I'd appreciate it.

@ILN - that isn't a problem with Monsanto, that is a problem with broken patent law and stupid courts.
Putin33 (111 D)

"Putin33 has views on food that are just as stupid and self-consciously contrarian as his views on everything else."

Nope. I used to be a dumb macho meat eater who had to grandstand every chance I got on the issue of food politics. I used to ridicule vegans all the time. I woke up.

So GFY.

Putin33 (111 D)

"@putin, yes Monsanto is evil, not cause it an evil evil capitalist corporation, but because they have government support and subsidies in the US"

Oh whatever. They'd do the same thing with or without government support. It's not like it's public money which makes them all of a sudden turn evil. It'd be nice if a laissez-faire type would admit just once that private individuals can be evil.
Putin33 (111 D)
17 Nov 13 UTC
You try to make it so. It's pathetic, really. Look at past threads about this topic. It's like a competition as to who can be the bigger bro.

@Putin33 I gotta go now but if you could elaborate on this:

"But oh well if GMO causes massive unemployment and cancer, the first world needs to be "fed" their corn and soy diet."

As usual it's a completely contrived statement. But you usually strike a better balance between reasonableness and outrage. What you said back there was seriously nothing but words! You're off your game, provocateur. Note that Putin33 revealed his true aims earlier today:

http://webdiplomacy.net/forum.php?threadID=1072017#1072082

Sadly you're off your game right now though.

Krellin and NBaby are ranters, but there's a kernel of sincerity behind it. Putin33, you're a purist.

Putin33 (111 D)

Tendmote that was a humorous thread. Also, you're dumb enough to believe that just because something has side effects that means that's the intent of the product. Your reaction to that was monumentally stupid. Also, ironic considering you started flaming me in that innocuous thread but call me a provocateur.

Nothing but words? All of the words in that sentence made sentence. GMO causes unemployment because it puts small farmers out of business. GMO causes cancer because of the well-known links of cancer & GMO products. The First world needs to be fed their corn & soy diet means exactly what it means.

Sorry if your irrational hatred of me prevents you from basic comprehension.

Also, glad to see you "avoiding" political or controversial threads.

I have some macho New Yorks Strip marinating in the fridge right now. I can not wait for my macho sunday dinner.
Yonni (136 D(S))
17 Nov 13 UTC
Putin, do you have studies showing the cancer link? I've spoken to doctors/biologists about it and my understanding was that GMO foods aren't inately carcinogenic.

Ignoring the pesticides, etc (which can be present for GMO or not), do you believe that a GM'd food causes cancer simply because it's been modified?
Dharmaton (2398 D)
17 Nov 13 UTC
wondered where that pet went?
krellin (80 DX)
17 Nov 13 UTC
It is completely iditoic to suggest the "GMO's are carcinogenic" since every GMO food is unique.

"Chemicals in food are bad for you"
"GMO's are all carcinogenic"
"The sky is falling"
"I live in fear of everything"
Dharmaton (2398 D)

@ Krellin: Be careful. Fear causes cancer.
krellin (80 DX)
17 Nov 13 UTC

Actually, Jamie, I could probably make the scientific argument that what you says is true.

Fear causes stress, stress is shown to cause a build-up of toxins in the body...long story short - yes, excessive amounts of fear are dangerous to your health, and could in fact increase the risk of cancer.

...*thus*....Liberalism, which tends to espouse any number of ideas that the earth is being destroyed, we are all doomed, our food supply is killing us, etc is an inherently unhealthy philosophy, and therefore Liberalism is a carcinogen.

The 2nd Amendment
Everyone has their own opinions on it, but I feel rather strongly that 2nd Amendment rights should be supported, as it is not only necessary for self-defense, but as a measure of self-expression.

This summarizes my view nicely
