School Administrators
They can't seem to focus on important issues... instead focusing on things like arbitrary dress code violations and dumb discussions like whether or not history is worth learning about. I guess they think it's not their job to stop drug use or work with kids on their academics. Maybe sex in middle school isn't a problem to them. What gives?

Sharks
Be scared... the number of annual deaths by sharks went up this past year! It's coming, folks... the sharks will take over the world! We must kill more! MORE, I SAY, MORE!! 70 million sharks deaths a year is not enough... we must deliver retribution!

These are the things that bug me... these are the stories that say I have no reason to be a soldier and that I shouldn't enlist because I don't get any respect for it... these are the things that scare me away, not warfare.

drau, i wont encourage him, how is that? I dont trust this government any longer, and I dont think he will be serving for the best interests of Americans.
Draugnar (0 DX)
11 Feb 13 UTC
That's all I ask. Encourage him to follow the path *he* chooses. Guide him down the college route if yo so choose (and I would encourage it) but should he choose to combine the too or show a talent for football and want to go play for Army, don't actively discourage him or tell him no.
Draugnar (0 DX)
11 Feb 13 UTC
And in another 12 years, who knows what our government will be like...
Draugnar (0 DX)
11 Feb 13 UTC
And as an example of how things change: I was in the service during Ronald Reagan's time in office. It was a time *Very* different from our own, unlike the intro to A Tale of Two Cities.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
12 Feb 13 UTC
And I also served part of Reagan and part Bush and I think even Clinton a bit. lol
Draugnar (0 DX)

Clinton? Gulf War? Troops started coming home in March of 91. Clinton wasn't elected until November 92 and didn't take office until January 93.

"...but should he choose to combine the too or show a talent for football and want to go play for Army..."

If he's talented, why would he want to play for Army?
hecks (164 D)
12 Feb 13 UTC
(That's *play for* Army, not serve in the army. I know there are lots of talented in the army. I was just taking a cheap shot at the Black Knights' recent football record.)
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Feb 13 UTC
Ouch! OK, maybe he wants to play for the Navy or the Air Force. There's Annapolis and Colorado Springs...
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Feb 13 UTC
And I don't think anybody took it worng. We knew you were taking a jab at Army football.
hecks (164 D)
12 Feb 13 UTC
Yeah, I just wanted to make sure somebody didn't come in and read it wrong. Just a little CYA. But yeah, Navy's much better than Army in recent years.

Not being a college football fan, I wouldn't know.

You're right. The Knicks totally shouldn't have beaten the Pacers in game 7 in '95. No way.

Basketball references are lost on me. I live in Maine. Could you put that in terms of hockey?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
12 Feb 13 UTC
Not quite, but I'll give it a shot... do you think the '06 Oilers were actually better than the Red Wings or that they just won?
hecks (164 D)
12 Feb 13 UTC
With Manny Legace in goal for Detroit for the playoffs, I think the Oilers were the better team.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Disagree, but whatever. How about Belarus over Sweden? Was Belarus really better?

Dammit! Chrome crashed while I was trying to post. Somehow I'm now spamming the thread.

@Hecks: As a wings fan I disagree, wings had a lot of injuries and Edmonton had a few players on a hot streak. Play that same series a month later or a month earlier, and Detriot would destroy Edmonton.

The better team doesn't always win, proof of that is no team ever goes undefeated in a season and very rarely are play off series 4-0. If a series goes into 7 games, it means the better team has lost 3 of the last 6 games, that alone should be proof that the better team doesn't always win.
hecks (164 D)
12 Feb 13 UTC
Oh, no doubt the Wings had a lot of talent. But the Oilers had Ales Hemsky, Ryan Smith, Shawn Horcoff, Jarret Stoll, plus a killer defensive grouping, with Marc-Andre Bergeron, Chris Pronger, Steve Staios, and Jaroslav Spacek. That defesive group was why Roloson, despite having a save percentage just over 90%, had a relatively low GAA at 2.42.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
12 Feb 13 UTC
Were talking about the team that won the presidents trophy and 2 years later would win the Stanley cup (albeit with a better GT, but I would hardly call Osgoode as talented GT)

Datsyk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Holmstrom were better then Hemsky, Stoll, Smith and Horcoff, and on defense we had the norris winner Lidstrom.

This was the team that won the presidents trophy and had more talent then any other team that year. The better team doesn't always win though.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
12 Feb 13 UTC
So his GAA was 2.42 yet Edmonton allowed 3.17 goals per game in the series. Does that really suggest that brilliant defense was the reason Edmonton won it?
hecks (164 D)
12 Feb 13 UTC
Well, I wouldn't say the Oilers were a *lot* better than the Wings. We could continue the debate, but we're diverging increasingly from the example I mentioned of Army vs. Navy, where I'm talking about their respective records over the last ten years, not a single series.
And we're diverging even more from the intial topic of the thread.
Stressedlines (1559 D)

drau, I meant i was serving under Clinton, not the gulf war, I know when the troops came home.

Hypocrisy
Hypocrisy, I think, is one of the worst human traits, because it violates the rules of rhetoric and deceives both the hypocrite and their listener, obstructing reason and acceptance in the way of subversion and blind authority.

Mission To Mars...Fun To Dream About...Make It Happen, You Science-Type People Here!
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/tech/story/2012/09/12/manned-mars-mission-still-on-track/57767950/1 "If the time line holds, a manned test flight of the Space Launch System and Orion capsule will take place in 2021. If that's successful, an asteroid landing would be feasible by 2025, followed by a landing on Mars sometime in the 2030s." Russian Gold Buying Binge

Thoughts? Russia is on a gold buying binge. Thoughts? Are they acknowledging something about the global economy and the potential demise of the US dollar?

Why is the west supporting Muhamed Morsi again?
He's an anti-Semite (no, we're not going to argue the word anti-Semite and I use it in the colloquial sense where it means anti-Jewish) reactionary woman-repressing islamist. He's not our friend. Discuss.

Masters Interest
This is just a thread to judge if there is enough interest in the community to start another round of the Masters. Note that this tourney does take more than 40 players to start, and will take 6-8 months to complete. I'm gonna try to keep this to top 200 GR, due to complaints about the quality of the last round.

Brand new stupid question of the day
I've been looking back on some of my previous games and I see that there are several people who I've played with that have a big red x next to their names. Is it safe to assume that these players were banned for something? Or am I completely wrong on this?

Austria issue
I have searched the forum for similar topic, haven't found any. However if the issue was somewhere discussed just delete the thread.

Playing Austria is very difficult in most of the cases. Moreover, players usually tend to play a pattern of "lets kill Austria first." Although you may say it is a natural fate of nations that some are stronger other are weaker, personally I think that in the game Austria should have a more equal chances (...)
