He's Metagaming...
Would any of you guys be up for a 2 or 3 game variant where the purpose is to metagame? Has anyone played a game like this, and if so how well did it work out? I have no points at the moment, but in a week or so I should be able to host the games :)

Two Questions about the Forum that I couldn't find in the help
1) If you mute a thread, is there any way to unmute it?
2) At what point do your posts and Threads move to the link that you can click on from your profile? They seem to be several weeks old. Is it a page count thing? or a timing thing?

Presidential amnesty
Our beloved universal genius, Master of the Universe and president of the Czech Republic, Tunnelgramps Václav Klaus recently ordered an amnesty for 1/3 of all prisoners to celebrate 20 years since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia he so masterfully orchestrated. Another 500 pardons are in the pipes as well, gotta help the pals out before his time in the office runs out.

What do you mean you make fun out of Brits, "are you taking the piss, do you wanna bang in the norf' an' sarf''

I have tea at 4pm on a Saturday. The rest of the week I don't really have time at that point in the afternoon. Try telling my work "everything stops for tea". At work I drink tea throughout the day, but from a mug.
It's not about the teasing bo, it is the real anti-american sentiment that the jokes help create the environment for in a way, but my complaint is the huge "it's cool to hate america and americans" that runs deep in the uk

SD, do you think the history books sold in America teach little kids that Britain was nice and cuddly to the colonists? They don't. They teach how Britain's the big bad guy and that the colonists beat their asses back to their own little island. Nobody tells you until college level courses that the British "quit" in the revolution in order to put their backs into fighting France. The United States and Britain say the exact same thing about each other.

@ Jamie

You really make a point of having tea at 4 on a Saturday? How awfully quaint! You'll be telling me you watch the Queen's speech and stand up for the national anthem next.

Do stop harassing the Septics, Nigee. Poor SD is feeling quite put upon. I think you should start making jokes about the French so he's knows it's not just Yanks.

"it's cool to hate america and americans" that runs deep in the uk

Show me a single country where this doesn't run deep. The right to hate Americans is more widespread than any other human right.

And Jamie is a social royalist. The Queen is but a hard-working foreman supervising the honest work of her comrades. Plus she knows her tea.
Perhaps, but it's general observation too. Generally speaking I think the country has an unfortunately high proportion of people that like to discriminate. I'm not saying that other countries don't have similar issues, America certainly does, but the fact that countries in general have a population that is too nationalistic, not tolerant enough etc does not make it acceptable on an individual country basis.

Don't get me wrong, something like yes minister/yes primeminister is great. Peep show too. British humour (how I spell it) is generally quite good, I just didn't find that particular post funny. Incidentally just watched channel 4's big fat quiz of the year, thought it was hilarious and the complaints about jack whitehall are misplaced, but that's just me.

No bo I don't, and I'm rather too lazy to respond to your post right now if that's alright?

Reading it again, in a calmer less irritated mood, perhaps I overreacted (no perhaps needed), and I hope you can all forgive me for being a right tit here. I still think much of the xenophobia etc is true, but this thread was not the place for it, and I should have just enjoyed the comic value of the post.

Apologies, again.

I like that phrase 'a right tit', I see you've taken something from our British culture :-)
I thought you would approve. One can't live in a country for so long and not learn the most important things. As a young-ish child when I first moved to the UK I asked for tea with milk because I was 'british', sang rule britannia incessantly, and generally proudly declared myself as british. This was all before I even got citizenship - lol. Now I'm quite different but I still have an appreciation for the finer things, 'a right tit', 'you're taking the piss mate', british humour, football (not the english team but I love me my liverpool) :). Oh, and especially once I got near to 18 and turned 18 I loved the good old british pub.

You know that really Englishman don't sing Rule Britannia because that is too politically incorrect and jingoistic, for the plebs, however play Jerusalem and every true Englishman will have a tear in his eye.

A Liverpool fan? You have my deepest sympathies.

Singing rule Britannia though.... that's just so... foriegn.
I'm black and jewish, I stopped worrying about being politically correct a long time ago.

Honestly, Nigee, you start this thread calling yourself a Queen and them proclaim your love for a Woman's Institute anthem... Today has been quite an eye opener!
And thank you, that said we are on a good run of form and Suarez is a God.
^^ what I say to myself to keep sane instead of reflecting on just missing out the title, winning the champions league, getting to another final etc. the good old days.

I want to post aha or lol or something, but I feel that nothing of that sort will encapsulate how witty I found that. Not just laugh to yourself funnny either, I starting laughing, only catching myself after a minute because I remembered I haven't gone back to uni yet and I doubt my family would want to be woken up to me laughing, my excuse being someone said something funny on webdiplomacy.net

I started following United the year we got relegated, 1973-74. We didn't win the league for 26 years, that was a long wait.
Back in 1990 Fergie was 1 defeat away from getting the sack, what a disaster that would have been.
Since then life has been good :-)

The sciences
A recent post by dubmdell on the beauty of science struck me as being rather eloquent. It paused me to stop and think what the relative proportion of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) students were across our various countries. In the UK in 2010, for example, there were 12,000 psychology and 10,000 history graduates. Chemistry and physics had 2,400 and 2,200 respectively.

Republicans defend the rich
I am from Europe, so I don't know much about American politics. I always thought that the GOP is for the hard working people. But it seems more and more that they just defend the rich. Sounds stupid to me, is a rather sure way to loose votes.

Trigger Laws
These are laws which do nothing unless certain conditions are first met.

So some (US) states will automatically ban abortion if Roe V Wade is overturned; or automatically ban human cloning if it becomes possible to achieve; however i really like the following rule: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact

The Greatest (Love) Story Ever Told?
It's not "Romeo and Juliet"...surely we all agree?
It's not "La Boheme," however much I love that opera.
It's not "Les Miserables" (at least not the musical/film version, two lines and BAM! instant, undying love between Marius and Cosette...lol!)
So...what is it--triumphant, comedic or tragic, as we approach the romance of New Years', what IS The Greatest Love Story Ever Told?
