@Jack:
You don't have to be classy when you have pwnage on your side. That's why I've handed you the debate equivalent of an anal rape - without the debate equivalent of lube (i.e. class). Since you clearly don't have the debate equivalent of mace (any sort of valid counterargument) to fend off my assault, the debate equivalent of my dong (PENETRATING logic) is currently shredding the debate equivalent of your rectum (conclusion). And your reply will undoubtedly be the debate equivalent of butthurt (butthurt - not an analogy, it's a double entendre). So maybe it's in your best interest to do the debate equivalent of lying back, enjoying it while it lasts, and submit (admit you DO NOT, in fact, prefer to keep the language of violence in political discourse).
UCwhatIdidthere? It's clever because you have to either cede the point, or tell me that there is nothing at all violent about the paragraph I just wrote. What's it gonna be, Jacky-boy?
@Nigee:
Just to be clear, I haven't thought of shooting or killing somebody as in "I wish I had a gun to kill this motherfucker." However, I have, in the abstract, considered under what circumstances I'd want some means of self-defense. That is also not to say that I sit around fantasizing about getting the opportunity to use it. I certainly do not. I don't like violence, I don't even like confrontation. But we don't always have a choice when violence and confrontation are forced upon us.
I also find it interesting that you'd assume that because I've had this thought, and have decided to make a legal purchase to that end, that I am "living in fear." I'm absolutely not. I can't remember the last time I felt unsafe. High school? I'd say the odds of me using a gun anywhere outside of the target range are about 1 in 100,000. The odds of my getting hit by a car on my bicycle on the way to work are about the same, but I still wear a helmet. The odds of my using that gun in an offensive manner are about as good as of my charging the car helmet-first. It's the trouble you can't sidestep that you ought to be prepared for. Reasonable precaution isn't paranoia.
I really find it strange the kinds of conclusions people are making about me based on this. I'm far from militant, I'm in favor of equal rights for all cultural groups, and I'm pretty left of center politically, but none of that seems to matter now.
I can't answer for the stoopid - you'd have to ask them.
