@jmo your rating probably went up to 429 and then down to 404 before the end of the month.

jmo, ratings are calculated game by game. You had 3 games end in January. The first two you got draws on and at the end of that second game your rating was 429. But then in the third game you were eliminated, dropping you down to 404. Make sense?

Yes, until the 1st of March, British Standard Time. I tried just setting my computer clock to UTC but there were a few games ending up in the wrong month so had to set it to BST which is UTC but with daylight savings time.

on a related note, i just realized #19 on the bolshoi rankings is mr. 5 minutes.... which probably isn't really a user, but my code reading in the phase length as a user. how does this affect bolshoi ranking's status as the best ranking of all time?

I haven't specifically brought it up with him yet. I've just been focused on getting the manual method back on track for starters.

But, that does bring up a question I had. "We" had discussed in that previous thread about having split up rankings. I'm looking at doing that too with the manual method but couldn't remember the specific groupings we'd talked about.

I believe one group was WTA, Classic, Full Press, Non-Live.
And then one for Gunboat, I think including any maps, live/non-live, and PPSC/WTA.
And one for live games, any map, PPSC/WTA, any press?

To add a bit more, Kestas has the content of the next release planned out and I've got a few things in there pretty much ready to go but possibly with some tweaks by Kestas. As far as I know Kestas is working on the other parts and I'm not sure when that'll be rolled out. Just depends on when he has time to work on it.

Then I've got a few more things hopefully slated for the next release already so integrating ghost ratings is a ways out even with his willingness.

Hey, i see Bolshoi is banned. I have got the feeling we had quiet a row of players who ware very active on this forum getting banned after a few months. Could it be one person who tried to get back every time?

re: grouping.

IIRC, there was some interest in there being a classic-map gunboat group. But, other than that, I think you capture the general consensus.

Aldarian - just to add my two cents, I think keeping it to at most 4 or 5 would be ideal.

1. current (everything included with current weighing measures)
2. WTA-Press (Including anon, non anon, and live, but classic map only)
3. WTA-gunboat (classic map, all variations)
4. PPSC (whatever, just PPSC)
5. Variant maps only (maybe)

Obviously others may have different opinions, but I think those are the main 'groupings' that people are looking for. I'm not sure if the gunboat community really wants variant maps or the PPSC variant also included but based on what i've witnessed on the forums, the WTA/Classic/Gunboat is the ranking system people are really interested in.

personally, I could care less about #4 and 5 and could do without, but i'm guessing there are still some folks who'd value having those rankings separated out as well if that's what they concentrate on.

So that's my thoughts.

Depends on who is in the live game. Noobs with a buy in of 5-30 vs 101-1001 buy ins with established players. BIG difference even though both are live games.

True. I imagine the difference is more pronounced in full press live vs. non live.

How are differend game modes (esp. press, variant maps) currently weighted for GR? I couldn't find a reference for that.

My vote would be:

1. Everything
2. WTA press
3. Gunboat
4. Live

And that's it.

Yonni, I do. However, I would say the difference is less pronounced than the differences between full-press vs gunboat or WTA vs PPSC for example. In that sense, they are much closer. One could also argue there is a similar difference between 24 hour and 48 hour games etc.

So if the hope is to limit ourselves to a handful of rankings, the live rankings are far less relevant.

But then again, this is just my perspective and only my set of suggestions.

I agree with uclabb. Just weigh non-classic variants at 50% (or less) for every category.

I'd like a WTA/full press/non-live. That's all I play, so I'm heavily biased, but I believe it is the truest/purest way to play the game on this site.
