Appropriate signals in gunboat? Please help.
In a WTA gunboat where there is a player who is in a very dominant position that guarantees them the draw or a solo if two or three powers can't figure out the stalemate positions and there is a power who has one or two SCs left and can be easily taken out without affecting stalemate position, what is the appropriate signal to send in game?

If you have a brain and take the time to read the George Will column I cut and pasted you will easily understand how the modern welfare state conceived in Europe and imported to America by the Left has exploded the income inequality liberals lunatics hopelessly try to blame on the Free Market.

THUCYDIDES, we meet again. Perhaps you'll remember me. We once sparred on this very forum. A fine skirmish of words it was. But it was so long ago. I'm sure you've forgotten me by now.

In any case, your lesson on the war practices of the Congo have been edifying. But it seems you've missed the point of my original post, that being: YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT THE CONGO.

Have you ever been to the Congo? Are you there now? I imagine not. You could of course respond with an indignant 'yes,' but we all know that would be a lie.

I'm sick of these raids I must make on the inarticulate with shabby equipment always deteriorating. For your sake, I'll make it clear that thats a bit of Eliot's East Coker.

Thank you all for your time.

Good Night and Good Luck.

How did you find out about that PE......

I mean I know we're friends on facebook but stillll lol this norbert chick is terrifying me I'm all paranoid now.

No seriously did I tell you about that I'm racking my brain now.
We definitely talked about this cute German woman you met 'cause I remember swapping stories about my girlfriend (something about how European women are amazing), but you never told me anything else, lol. I just kinda pulled that out of thin air.

If that's seriously what's going on here, I have no words
Hey Eden!

Are you back? Or did you resurrect to troll the forums once again?

I would love to play a game with you....

Bas
More the latter, Bas. I'm still trying to avoid the temptation of joining games (hence, all points deposited into a game with a jumbled password I can't remember) for now... don't know that I truthfully have the time. If I change my mind and get one going, you're first on the list.

But yeah, for now, just lurking the forums. How are ya?

Simon
I'm fine, thank you. I'll keep bugging you until you give in to temptation. That shouldn't be too hard, now?
Well, we'll have to see. I am trying to stick to retirement, but knowing me, that might not work out so well...

Talking about how Americans find European women amazing (they are) I was in a train about half a year ago and there were two American girls (I'm sure they were American because of their accents and they mentioned the state where they lived) chatting.

The funny thing was, I thought this "Ow my GOD and then I WAS LIKE ..." (sometimes followed by another Ow my GOD" was actually an exaggeration of what American women talk like, but no.

Their entire conversation was constructed from these building blocks:

Label 1
<Situation A> like happened. Ow my God. And then I was like ... <Girl 1 makes face that best represents appropriate emoticon, usually this one :-O >
And then she went like <response of girl 2 to Situation A>
So I was like <Same emoticon-face is repeated, mouth slightly more opened>
<Sips diet coke>
Goto 1

Are they all like that? And is that why you like European women?
Draugnar (0 DX)

Only young valley girls. The state they lived in was probably California and they were probably both blondes. No, we do have real women who have intellects and can converse using a polysyllabic vocabulary.

The state they were from and their age will tell a lot as well. California? Up to 25 will say "And she was like and so I was like...". Other states, up to 21. They lose that when they start drinking and actually want intelligent guys to notice them.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Jan 12 UTC
I dunno Draug. If I can speak for my own generation...

we kind of *all* say "like" a lot, even if some of us are better about then others, especially filtering it properly.

But saying "he was like" is just another way to say "he said" for us. And the word "like" as an interjection is never going to unestablish itself I'd say. It's no different now than um and well.

Referring to the mode of speech youre referencing specifically - it's not just valley girls, even if that is the cultural ancestor. it's just unintellectual white girls and their culture.

You can be a smart girl and still take part in this cultural undercurrent. And you don't have to be white or rich either. But those fit the stereotype more neatly.

Maybe this valley girl thing has been nationwide for my generation just because of TV, or, perhaps more accurately, MTV. I don't know. We still have our regional accents, but the inflection of

"oh, my, Gawwwd!" is pretty widespread.

And guys aren't much better. We're all "dude, man, dude, man, dude. Dude man. Man, dude." Me too. It's just... the speech mechanism. I say "dude" and shit even as I spit words like "extemporaneous." It's just a colloquial way of speaking for mainstream american youth.

Value judgements being left aside for the moment, that's the way it is, I think.

Anyway. European girls are hot because:

1) They are usually more mature
1a) this includes sexual maturity
2) They are usually smarter
3) They are usually more stylish
4) They are exotic, but still white for people with ethnocentric sexual tastes (most everyone unfortunately)
4a) They usually speak like 3 languages, which is hot by itself, and also exotic
5) They have accents that are romanticized by our media - British, German, French, Spanish, Russian, doesn't matter, hitting on (or being hit on by) a girl with an accent like that is automatically more sexual because of our cultural view of these accents in the opposite sex
6) You automatically have more to talk about - they are interesting just by virtue of being non-American.
7) There is smaller chance that they are physically... erm.. unfit. To be polite about it.
8) And finally, and most shallowly of all - getting with one is a more impressive achievement that an American, therefore your bragging rights are increased.

So there you have the psychosis of the American male for European women. I reckon American women feel similarly about European men. It just makes you feel worldly, and, in America, with our history of relative isolation, anything that is "worldly" or "all the rage in Europe" is usually treated with fascination, barring that, suspicion (which masks an underlying jealousy).

Voila mon frere redhouse. Where are you from? UK?
redhouse1938 (429 D)
13 Jan 12 UTC
No I'm like, from Holland... DUDE
Judging by your over-theorizing of the attractiveness of European women I guess you still need to start dating your first? ;)
Don't give up on using extemporaneous and dude in the same sentence, I think the net result is that you're giving culture a slightly upward rather than downward push.

And be sure to watch that Dylan Moran thing I posted guys it's hilarious. Find me an American one that mocks Europeans and I'll be truly happy.
1) They are usually more mature

Yeah, mine sure is.

1a) this includes sexual maturity

How exactly are you defining that? Physical development, sexual experience, sexual outlook?

2) They are usually smarter

Regional bias here: going from rural Deep South women (and, truthfully, people in general) to my current girlfriend was... oh my god. I felt complete because I could actually fucking talk to her about something intelligent. And yeah, I know, that's unfair as hell, there are smart Southerners of both sexes, yada yada well that's nice and all but fact is the majority of 'em down here just plain ain't.

3) They are usually more stylish

Reference: I attend LSU, and my girlfriend goes to SCAD, but takes classes at LSU right now. She may literally be the only (non-faculty) woman I see all day who's not wearing a tank top, Nike shorts and running shoes. Could be my location, could be my poor life choices, but yeah, my girlfriend is much more stylish.

4) They are exotic, but still white for people with ethnocentric sexual tastes (most everyone unfortunately)

Guilty. And I really wish I weren't, but yeah.

4a) They usually speak like 3 languages, which is hot by itself, and also exotic

Truth. And true here. (And the best part is, I'm picking up a little bit of it. So if I ever have the urge to say something sweet to her around other people - don't judge me - I can just drop a few words I picked up in Russian and bam! Done.)

5) They have accents that are romanticized by our media - British, German, French, Spanish, Russian, doesn't matter, hitting on (or being hit on by) a girl with an accent like that is automatically more sexual because of our cultural view of these accents in the opposite sex

Hadn't even considered this, but yeah.

6) You automatically have more to talk about - they are interesting just by virtue of being non-American.

lol. Also true. Of course, you gotta step up your game, too. Go out and see some fun shit, do some fun things, something to match "So back in Europe, I..."

7) There is smaller chance that they are physically... erm.. unfit. To be polite about it.

lol. Addendum, the Europeans I do know have MUCH healthier diets. Which has benefited me a lot, because she usually picks the food.

8) And finally, and most shallowly of all - getting with one is a more impressive achievement that an American, therefore your bragging rights are increased.

Yep. Although, admittedly, I don't ever take satisfaction out of this unless someone explicitly brings it up. If no one attaches value to it, idgaf, but once someone starts gawking about European women and someone happens to mention her...

4) They are exotic, but still white for people with ethnocentric sexual tastes (most everyone unfortunately)

I don't see what is wrong with ethnocentric sexual tastes (I know, Hitler had single prefference as well etc.) but if you mean exotic as in looks, then you know like, we were white first, dude ;)
Draugnar (0 DX)

LOL! Hey, dude is a regular part of my vocabulary. And if I'm talking to a demale coworker/friend, dudette is part of my vocabulary. So NP with saying dude, dude. Polysyllabic doesn't mean every work has to have more than one syllable. Just that they need to understand them when I say them. Example... I said something to my wife last night that wasn't 100% accurate. It was something along the lines of "I can't drop 3 grand on a ring for our 23rd anniverdsary, but I'll get it for you for our 25th in a couple of years" and she responded with "It's not 3 grand. It's 27 hundred", so I responded "Don't be pedantic about the price." She said "That's not a word!" and we proceeded to dicusss the virtues of an actual education versus graduating high school with a C average in mediocre level classes and that just because you've never heard of a word, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Oh, I slept on the couch last night...

redhouse:

yeah I've not dated any European girls, I've just had run-ins with them, notably in Senegal. Otherwise in Texas it's 100% pure all-american.. not a lot of variety in nationality. plenty of variety in ethnicity, but not nationality.

and that's what i meant by exotic. like a *real* foreigner. not like your americanized asian girlfriend or half-black gf or whatever, hot though they may be, that's not what I meant by exotic.

re: ethnocentrism in sexual preference

we're probably all conditioned to it, but the reason it's too bad that that's the way it is is that the sooner we start doing more cross-race babymaking, the sooner we get this race shit behind us and all become the same race.

unfortunately, imho, racism will not go away until race itself does.
Draugnar (0 DX)

"unfortunately, imho, racism will not go away until race itself does. "

+1ed for that comment alone. Have you read 3001: The Final Odyssey? Everyone from 3001 was grey, IIRC as there were no more races do to interracial sexual relationships. Great book and a great viewpoint on how to eliminate racism.

I already tried this on a Normal Map with just Star Trek...and was eliminated first (damn you, double-crossing Vulcans, how dare yu stab me, even if it WAS the logical thing to do!) but it seemed to go well: how about a World match (low bet, as it's World and it can be more accessible that way) with races from different Sci-Fi series?
