I'd be afraid of getting something I don't know a damn thing about (ie, half of Star Wars, all of Galactica, and much of Dr. Who).

The main races of Babylon 5 are:
Human
Centauri (who seem sort of like the old French court diplomatically, there's a lot of sex and a lot of doublespeak and backstabbing)
Minbari (a deeply religious people with hot bald chicks, maybe similar to Bajorans in some ways)
Narn (a lizard like people, kind of...obsessed with vengeance and honor, especially against the Centauri who occupied their area)
Human
Shadow (these guys were awesome...kind of like demonic tempters who rarely were shown but always hinted at).
Vorlon (a mysterious species that were some of the first sentient beings in the galaxy and oppose the Shadow)

If you're going to add Babylon 5 ones, I'd go Centauri, Minbari, and Narn. Maybe Shadow.

The humans are really kind of...almost a non-factor in that beyond staffing the station.

The humans were a non-factor in Babylon 5? Did we watch the same show? Was it not a human who went to khazad dum? Was it not a human who became the president of the league on non-aligned worlds? Waas not Valen actuually a human?

There was A human who was important, but humans as a whole...

I would argue at least three humans were important, possibly four. Sheridan (president of the LoNAW), Sinclair (Valen himself), Leeta (face it, she ended up arguably the most powerful humanoid in the universe), and arguably Ivanova.

Individual humans were important, humanity as a whole was not.

Individual Narn were important. Narn as a whole, was not. Individual Centauri were important. Centaur as a whole was not. Only a couple races were important as a whole: Minbari, Vorlon, and Shadow. Yet you listed other races where it was the individuals, not the race, that made a difference. Narn? One character: G'Kar. Just one. Centauri? Two: Vir Cotto and Londo Mollari. And when it came to the end, were not the Ranger's both Human and Minbari?

@Obi - How can yuou have Federation *and* Vulcan. The Vulcan's were part of the Federation since its founding.in 2161, assuming you are referring to the United Federation of Planets and not, say, the Trade Federation from Star Wars. And putting the Earth Alliance (B5) against the UFP... Well Earth was part of both.

Why not Dune? It's pretty much the Diplomacy of Science Fiction.

Many... a dune mod to dip... probably too many changes to really encapsulate it, but what a fun game it'd be....

We could try to make a mod; I'm sure we could figure something out. I'm sure it would be incredibly convoluted, but could be amazing. Like, what if the Spacing Guild was an 8th player and players needed to seek permission for certain types of moves, such as convoys?

Or, we could just play Standard Diplomacy, acting as true to the characters as possible.

Centauri were pretty important, as was the Centauri/Narn conflict.

I don't know, maybe I just enjoy the non-humans in sci fi more than the humans and look at it through that lens.

So Corrino was russia, Harkonnen turkey, Atreides austria, Bene Gesserit Italy, and the Fremen France?
Juggernaut formed, ripped through Atreides, except one unit escaped to france, was taken and converted to french, italy kept turkey at Bay, then france harassed turkey until they were capable of pushing him back by surprise due to turkey not understand the strength of the french units... then France takes turkey and doesn't stop until they hit st petersburg?

Except Austria's one unit that merged with the French became a new and more powerful unit than any France or the known universe had seen before.

OK, but now I have an image of Sean Young/Chani wearing a French Maid outfit over her stillsuit burned into my brain and I don't known if it is disturbing or erotic or both.
