Is this the highest stakes game played? Pot of 7000 D. I notice three players have voted to draw already, how disappointing. This is one game I would like to see played to the death.

Cheating in WebDiplomacy
I have sent a message to the game mods about a no ingame messaging World XI game Im in days ago without reply - and I think its a clear case of either A) metagaming or B) Multi-account because the level of co-op without any supposed comms is unbelievable.

So far nothing at all from the mods - not even an acknowledgement of the mail - what should I do?

Bullying
While there is no doubt bullying is a major problem, and the suicides caused by it are tragedies, does making the kids who commit suicides tragic heroes encouraging more kidstake that route?

mapleleaf (0 DX)

As far as I'm concerned, the elephant in the room is the behavior of the so-called victims of bullying.

For instance, in one of the recent gay teenager suicides, the fag was upset because he could not walk up to a jock at random, and be permitted to fondle his penis and testicles. Sure, things were going his way for a while. As we all know, fags are supposed to be allowed to do anything they want, or it's a Hate Crime. This particular fag was having quite a field day until one of the jocks called in sick, in order to escape his regularly scheduled fondling, and upset this fag to no end. So the fag killed itself, and all of this bullying nonsense-talk started up again.

Isn't it obvious? He's deeply closeted and the hate is really an expression of his own self loathing. And he's really beginning to panic because it's too late for him to come out. It's quite sad really. Don't worry mapleleaf. It's never too late. It might be a little pathetic at this point, but I think it'll be good for you. You'll feel much better being honest about who you are.

not enough time to read all but i found something very interesting about children thinking about parents like adults thinking about suits, and i think i found a pretty good solution, basically adults do listen to their parents, and to be fair i'm pretty sure i'd listen when someone from the government tells me to stop bullying...
so such people should be available maybe, and they come to children who have fought a lot or something, or when parents ask them to come...
however, even though i'm a child myself i'm just not a bullier (i do get bullied but i don't consider myself a victim because i just don't give a shit and laugh them out in their faces...) and in the worst scenario my parents just don't listen and i write a letter, walk the dog for an hour and all is done, i'm Dutch btw, so i don't know or there are much differences with US schools/schoolchildren... (except they eat much more junkfood :))

Well, not to take this conversation in the direction maple wanted it to go, but a lot of the recent bullying related suicides have been a result of homophobic and anti-gay bullying. And I mean, I'm sure you have homophobes in The Netherlands, but my understanding is that the general social approach to sexuality is much more open in Europe than North America. Which leads to gay teens feeling completely isolated and alone, which is according to a lot of social theory is really the underlying cause of suicide. Like, in the states there is an entire industry built up around lobbying against gay rights, and going on television and saying that gays are sick and need to be cured, etc. It's not a huge industry but it's there, and its very effective at spreading it's message.

I can't tell if mapleleaf is being sarcastic, or is a lot more insane than I ever thought he was.

As a kid, I was always bullied. But the teachers(and adults in general) seemed to not do much. And when they did step in, they tended to make things worse, by putting me in a position that made me feel a lot more isolated. I'll never forget in 4th grade, my one teacher talking to me after I'd gotten ganged up on by at least five other boys, when she told me that it was my fault for not trying to be more friendly toward them.
Mafialligator (239 D)
28 Sep 11 UTC
@ Onar - that's awful. And that's kind of exactly the problem. On some level it almost doesn't matter what authority figures do to address bullying, just do SOMETHING that doesn't leave the victim feeling completely isolated. Make them feel like someone is in their corner, and that'll be better than what goes on now.
Mafialligator (239 D)
28 Sep 11 UTC
And for the record I think mapleleaf isn't being entirely sincere and he just has this weird condition where he confuses hate speech with humour.
Lopt (102 D)

There is also some insane documentary about a girl who got raped more or less and then the whole school, INCLUDING the administration turned against her. The boy was popular and she was a "slut". Nevertheless she filed a complaint for rape with the authorities and the whole school started a campaign calling her a liar.. INSANE

For some reason it seem some people have trouble identifying with bullied kids, I never have been seriously bullied myself, but I've seen a few tragic cases, and even when I was young I would feel for them. Though more so now.
Onar (131 D)
28 Sep 11 UTC
Even when the adults are in your corner, you feel isolated, because what you want is a friend among the other children. Having someone of authority on your side doesn't help as they can't realistically be there for you all the time. Friends of your own age (or status, as a workplace environment might dictate), can't be at your side every time, all the time, either, but they're a bit closer to you. I guess the best way to say it is that more than anything else, you want to have a friendly face that's also one of your peers. Having anyone in a "superior" position offer you comfort does little to alleviate feeling isolated.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Lopt's story of the girl bullied and raped was in Northern Kentucky where I lived up until two weeks ago. It was the son of one of the schooll administrators and even after it all came out that there was a coverup because he was the star quarterback, the kid never did any time. He got a short suspension and banned from going to any school functions for that school in perpetuity, so the kid's dad got him transfered to another high school in the district and conveniently forgot to mention that he was a rapist so he could go back to playing football.

I wanted to kick those mother fuckers' asses: both the kid and the dad. I did hear, though, that the story came out unofficially and that none of the talent scouts will touch the kid and that his dad is dealing with threats of violence on a daily basis and that somebody actually went through with it and taught the bastard and his bastard son a lesson. Fucking inbred hillbilly assholes. The police did a cursory search for the attacker, found nothing, and it is an open investigation that will just eventually fall into the cold case files as it should. They both deserved to be hospitalized for that shit.
Mafialligator (239 D)
28 Sep 11 UTC
Onar - You definitely have a point about the authority figures on your side not being enough, but I mean, surely having teachers on your side is better than having no one. And it may not be everything a bullied kid needs, but maybe it'll be just enough to prevent a suicide?
Draugnar (0 DX)

The key is to be on the bullied kid's side, but not make matters worse for them.

What I'm about to say may sound a little crazy, but just hear me out (read my entire post).

Is there any wisdom in teaching some bullying victims to fight back physically? Kids need to learn to stand up for themselves, so why not do it with their fists?

I know that isn't a perfect solution, and it wouldn't work for every situation, but it seems to be a better solution then alienating a victim of (s)he reports the bully.

Any thoughts?
One of the Gracie brothers runs a camp to help bullied kids. But is it a catch-all solution? No. Some kids are too small, and fighting with fists could lead to further alienation rather than cure it.

BULLIES: Listen to all the whining and bitching about bullying, and the schools thus reinforce -and increase- how much power they have.
NORMAL KIDS: Are now ore offended by bullies, because the adults have told them how offended they should be by bullies.
SUICIDAL KIDS: Of which under normal curcumstances there should be few or NONE of....are now empowered to carry out their suicidal act, because the "Responsible Adults" have now told them that suicide is an acceptable response to being bullied.

TRUTH. Bullies have been around forever. The increase in kid-i-cide....er....suicide....is more recent, and in direct proportion to the campaign for bullying "awareness".
TRUTH: Bullies think that Anit-Bullying Assemblies where you get to skip class to listen to teachers complain about bullying is hilarious. They get to skip class. AND...bonus points..the teachers tell you what form of bullying is getting their attention....meaning the bully can either A. Do that, becuase it realy pisses people off, or B. Switch their strategy.

Blah blah blah....

My kids get the anit-bullying shit al the time in school. The ignore it. The bullies in class laugh it off. For pretty much everyone involved, it is wasted teaching time.

What the schools do NOT do is publicly humiliate the fucking bullies. When there is a bully on my kid's bus, the ENTIRE BUS is given seating assignments....bacuse (GASP!) you wouldn't want to single out a child and make him feel bad. So....better to punish ALL the kids.

What the schools do not do....differentiate between the (known) bully, and the kid that punched back to defend himself. They punish the victim who defended himself the same as the bully who started the fight.

It is fucking liberalism gone to the asinine extreme.

Want to solve the bullying problem? Let the kids in class push the class bully into a dark corner of the playground/school and have about 10 kids beat the fucking shit out of him. Chances are that will have a *much* greater impact than giving him a "suspension"....i.e. a 3-day vacation.

Hey, Krellin,

How about you respond to my FTL comments from the other day.
krellin (80 DX)
29 Sep 11 UTC
i.e. The whole Anti-Bullying campaign is one of the most misguided things ever. If your PRIMARY concern is suicide....then it is THE WORST THING EVER....because it VALIDATES SUICIDE as an option. The fucking kids that want to commit suicide SHOULD be told to get some friends and beat the hell out of the bully in self-defense....but instead they are told that it is OK to kill themselves. It's *utterly* disgusting!

And....for the record....I once **knew** a girl that hung herself in the public park....
...I would have much rather that she beat the shit out of her bully than hang herself....

Abge -- sorry ...haven't logged on in a bit. I'll look them up. But...since you choose to attack me and accuse me of things that I was not doing, I am *less* than inclined to pay attention to your posts. I - in that thread - was simply responding to a discussion. YOU....like a good bully, coincidentally - accused me of bad behavior to shut me up. I have no use for you, in that situation.
