An Honest Question--No Right or Wrong, BLACK or WHITE Answer...Right?
Toni Morisson put foward the idea that, in "white" literature, "black" people are used to fill the role of "the other," ie, to help define the white people by contrast (usually positively...or at least, it was SUPPOSED to be positive--you can decide for yourself just how positive that can really leave people.) Thus, she said, blacks were kept seperate from others in identity, and inequality in society stemmed, in part, from this concept. My question is...

Tactical question
Hi everyone. My question is pretty basic: Can a fleet in Edi support an army holding in Lvp? I'm thinking not, since Clyde is in between, but I'm not sure.

Citizens choose private over failing public schools
In Indiana legislation returned school choice to the consuming parents on the lower end of the economic scale, and oh what a disaster for failing public schools.

Thucydides (864 D(B))

A - Russia cannot ignore the move and is forced to moblilize northward despite perhaps originally having other designs. This mobilization leads to war and both a smart Russia and England know it. Any attempt by England to say otherwise is either ignorant or deceitful.

Of course the war can be averted - but war can ALWAYS be averted, sometimes with great difficulty. There would be great difficulty avoiding war in this case.
I feel that it is A.

I've never, ever, ever, not online, not in face-to-face games, played a game where England didn't immediately, or shortly thereafter, try to attack St. Pete after convoying an army into Norway. Games where I've just watched that happen, games where I've been England, and games as Russia.

Could be any of them depending on the communication and agreements between E and R. But generally A or C depending on the fleet positions.

If the fleets are NwS and Nth, then it is A, a declaration. If Nth and Eng, then C, neutral as clearly England has other targets. If NwS and Eng, then B, but really stupid cause England has just pissed off Russia *and* France.
jmeyersd (4240 D)

C. The number one priority as England in '01 is to get the army onto the continent. If England does not feelhe can get BEL, a convoy to NOR is the only other option. It makesNOR more defensible in the event of Russia building in STP, and if GER bounces Russia in SWE (as is usually the case), it poises ENG for a play onSWE\Den. I'mmore worried as GER than as RUS.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))
01 Sep 11 UTC
C - If I were playing Russia, I'd assume that England will be tied up in western affairs for quite a while and the convoy was merely to get the army into a better location. I tend to view it as more anti-German than anti-Russian.

My opinion is that Russia shouldn't fear England in the opening. R's concern is in the east for the first few years and E's concern is in the west in the first few years. If E is pushing at St Pete and Swe early on, it's because there's a Western Triple.
Rommeltastic (1121 D(B))
01 Sep 11 UTC
B - it can only hurt two SC's from where it is, Sweden and STP.
Thucydides is right - from Russia's point of view an army in Nor is very bad news. It certainly puts a crimp on any planned Juggernaut 'cos Russia has top defend St.P.

If I was Russia and England did that I'd be more than a little annoyed.
acmac10 (120 D(B))

From England's standpoint? A, B, or C (depending on intentions). Russia's? Definitely A or B.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
01 Sep 11 UTC
B/C While Russia should be cautious about the move, England generally does it so he can keep his navy in the North Sea
I'd say C. It really could be anything depending on the scenario though. But it gets the army into a useful place and leaves your fleets with other fun things to do. Just go by context, because if its coupled with a fleet move to Barents, then its A lol
Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)

B- That army in Norway can very easily be swapped with Russian-held Sweden to give England a new front on the German

I would view it as B, unless England builds an army.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))

Would say B normally, but depending on the fleet positions, it would be A.

Axxroytovu (100 D)

C. This opening should be completely neutral to russia, though it wouldn't be unwise for russia to stay alert. Even if england has a fleet in the north sea and norwegian, that doesn't necessarily mean anti-russia. That particular set of moves is england's ONLY way to ensure at least one build. They could just be a cautious player who wants to ensure himself a build.
Puma (1231 D(S))
01 Sep 11 UTC
When playing Russia, I have looked upon that move as B.
However it could be C depending on what England builds next and where he goes.
Also playing into the picture is whether Germany prevented Russia from taking Sweden in which case, it'd be B.
martinck1 (4464 D(S))
01 Sep 11 UTC
Between B and A, but as Russia, I would certainly have asked England not to put an army in Norway, so it depends on whether he had told me in advance.

If yes, I would veer towards B, else A.

B (maybe leaning more towards C), since the diplomatic situation surrounding any move is often more important than the move itself.
JEccles (421 D)

B, unless accompanied with a fleet from edinburg to the norwegian sea and then barents sea...then most likely A
mapleleaf (0 DX)

B.

A declaration of war is a communication not a move, no matter the interpretation of said move. Therefore, England capturing StP is not a declaration of war either.

I'd have to say B.

It's a warning shot, but not an opening salvo...just serving notice that England won't be pushed around in the North...a bit agressive, but with the right words accompanying it, I'd say B.

Civility REQUIRED game: players wanted
To my understanding this is our 4th attempt at a civility game. The first 2 were very successful, the last one was ruined by one of the players.

If you would like to try at a civility game post here and I will send you an invite.

No in game messaging?
I don't understand why we have or want the no in game messaging option. Doesn't that go against what diplomacy is all about? Especially if the game does not have anonymous players then I fear private messages would be exchanged but that would go against the intent of the option. I would appreciate if someone could explain how they play that option.

Does anyone know if I actually broke a rule of some kind by doing this? Regardless it was an unforgettable thing, I've only really ever seen that type of thing on TV, now I've done it.
