Indy's Clever Pet Tricks To Win Games List (Please Contribute)
1. Find the players that CD most frequently, set up a game, and invite them! In a game chosen at random (truly), these were the percentages I found for the 7 players: 17%, 20%, 10%, 2%, 43%, 0%, and 29%. Truly! Just imagine if you could find 6 players with 50% rates!

Summer Gunboat Tournament: Interest Thread
I've been talking to trip about organising a summer season of his gunboat tournament. Before I get serious about it, I want to gain some feedback from participants of the just-finished tournament and also make sure there is enough interest to field it at all.

@Lando, exactly on the 2 man racing to the stalemate lines. It also encourages you to actually take some of your allies dots if you can, which makes the game much more exciting (and maybe make the solo more of a possibility if you push your ally too far).

@Geo, I like anon!
The nice thing about gunboat is that is requires very little time per game.

as long as people FINALIZE their orders

I'm interested in beginning late April, or May
I was not in the last tournament.
I'd prefer 25 hour, but 36 hour phases are ok.
I'm not so sure about this scoring system though.

I played last time and would love to play again

I believe that the scoring should be simplistic. Gunboat is a novel enough approach to diplomacy.

Perhaps a solo automatically moves on. Then maybe a point for being part of a draw, with the # of SCs as a final tiebreaker.

3 rounds with 36hr phases has taken almost 5 months to complete, but to be honest, only 3 or 4 people consistently used more than 24hrs to enter orders. 25hrs is possible, but with 49 people, there's a good chance of issues arising. You also have to take possible pause requests into consideration. I think there were two pause requests in the current tourney with 28 people.

I think the scoring and rules for advancement worked very well in the first two rounds, when half the players advance. The finals could be tweaked. I'd say cumulative, but that would be better for round robin, which is an interesting idea. How often would games start?
Geofram (130 D(B))

I think 36 hr is pretty much necessary. If we're able to field a round robin, games could start one per week. The tournament could be as few as 7 games, (not including finals.)
Geofram (130 D(B))

The problem is I dont think we'll get 49 interested parties.

Which means we'll probably do a repeat of: 4 groups 3 rounds, 2 groups 3 rounds, 1 group 3 rounds. 9 games max for the final contestants. (If there's 28 players)

This method does allow for a more rigid pace, but if each game takes roughly 3 weeks to complete, we're still talking 3-4 months.
We did them simultaneously this tournament (as in 3 games at a time). They take a lot longer than 3 weeks to complete.

Preferred start date of tournament: None

Not a participant in the prior tourney, but I'd be interested. As for your requests, the only item that I care about is that the games be anon.

i played last time, would play again. 36 hours is good, but players should commit to finalize. my first couple rounds went at a snails pace, the finals have been fine.

I'm interested. Start date is inconsequential for me. And I did not participate in any previous tournaments.

I'm interested in this as well. I haven't played any tournaments before. The start date doesn't matter too much for me, but later in April would be better. I can't do phase lengths any shorter than 36 hrs though.

I'm interested. The start date doesn't matter to me. I haven't participated in any previous tournaments. 36 hours is better than 25, but both are fine.

I am interested.
Didn´t play in the last one.
Any phase lenght between 25 and 36.
Don´t know how was scoring system, but I think the scoring system should be something like the Leagues, as draws are harder to achieve in gunboat and should be rewarded (a lot less then a solo, but still rewarded).

There's 21 interested so far.
36HR && Anon are pretty much given at this point, but we'll definitely encourage finalising.

Is there any reason we could not or should not start first week of May? Gives the school folk time to graduate/study.

Braveheart:
last tournament there were 28 players, in 4 groups:
1st round
semi-final
final

3 games each round, so maximum 9 games.

Not sure if geofram wants to do the same system.
Personaly I would prefer to see the final with more than 3 games... maybe 5.

Please add me as well, I got spanked last time. I like the 36 hrs then if you are away for the weekend, you don't have to try to pause the game. But during the week everyone should ready orders.

Convoy Error message
I receive the following message when trying to convoy an army from Armenia to Sev. Parameter 'viaConvoy' set to invalid value 'Yes'.
Is this a common error? The move is surely legal.
This is an anonymous game, so I am reluctant to post the game ID.

Suggestion- buying points
This seems like a good idea to me. I've only 2 D left, but if we could buy points(to a set limit), this has a 2 pronged benefit.
It allows me to play more games(or higher pot games) and gives money to those developing the site.
Thoughts?
