Yes. GR #1 is the best. You are 2276th. But, you have only played 4 games, so this is likely very inaccurate.

This is really interesting to me. I think I would like to participate but i think I am best suited as simply a student. I'm certainly not a true beginner but I haven't had a ton of luck with press games. I have a lot of experience in gunboat games, however, and I think I can read the board pretty well so maybe I am a little bit of a Professor as well. Anyway, I mostly would like the feedback that this would bring, if thats acceptable let me know.

@petwerwiggin, I have played a press-game with you before so if you remember that game maybe you can let me know where I fit in.

My GR is approximately 1400. Although, I expect if Novemeber were included I would be higher.

fisrt, i do not decide who gets to be what.

second, it soudns liek you'd be a asound 'tactical' analyst/mentor, while not neccesarily being a great professor.

IF there are not enough students to fill the class i'd think using you to fill the class would be fine.

i hope we all aim to do the best we can to contribute to school. As a learning expierence for the students. Though of course, several professors have been proven wrong, so there is nothing stopping them from picking up a point or two aswell...

I actually would prefer not to be an analyst, but I'd be happy to help out in the other two positions, if needed.

I think you actually outplayed me in that game after the Austrian CD, although I'm fairly certain that if Austria had stuck around, I would have soloed easily. It's hard to get a good read from a live game, but you're certainly not hopelessly bad.

thank you peter... you are being immensely helpful.

one idea we had before, and it might be time to implement it... is to run a 'graduate' course alongside an 'undergraduate' course. there were some great ideas about how we could do that which I will dig up at some point.

meanwhile, anyone else who is interested, keep adding your names to this list... there will be more details ;) and besides, we probably would want to start after the Xmas holiday season so that we could avoid pauses.

peter is right on all counts above... WTA, probably non-anon, time TBD, but likely 36-48 hrs. 5pts unless all participants want it to be higher... I think last semester the games were 50 .

We probably have enough interest to do one 36 hour game and one 48 hour game. I will be traveling a bit over the next two weeks, so my initial thought is to guarantee a spot to any student that signs up by the 27th. Sometime on the 27th, I should be able to make the games, and we'll set the games to start around the 2 or 3 of January. I have some ideas about qualifications for each category, but I want to talk to Babak before I share those. I will, however, say that we need more professors, preferably very highly ranked players. A graduate and an undergraduate course is a good idea, but we'll have to discuss how to implement it.

Wow, quite the interest. Seem you have plenty of students, maybe enough for 2 games.
I was a mentor last time. Boy is that hard. May I suggest if 1 game each mentor gets 1 student. If 2 games each mentor gets 1 student per game. Mentoring takes a lot of time
because you are fielding question from everyone. This would make it more personal and
easier to deal with. While I understand getting different views is a good thing, I also think
more time on 1 student would be better.

I was thinking that mentors were assigned to 1 student if possible, and then to double them up if necessary. How were they done before?

Students could to any of them. I talked with 4 of them about the game.

I agree. I think 1on1 or 1on2 mentoring would be best. Anything else would be a lot of work for mentors and could complicate things if they're advising both sides of a fight.
