I think Sarah Palin's North/South Korea confusion was just a slip of the tongue. But the vast majority of the incredibly idiotic things she's said are not. Just because this isn't a particularly good example of her being really dumb, it doesn't mean she isn't actually really dumb.
And as for the 57 states thing, Obama was exhausted and said the wrong number. It could happen to anyone, and he realized his mistake later and made fun of himself for it. He also doesn't make a habit of appearing poorly informed about issues. Even people who don't like him as a politician in all fairness have to concede, you may not agree with his decisions, but he's not a poorly informed, ignorant person.
Sarah Palin on the other hand has never reacted to anyone pointing out a mistake she's made with anything but a shrill defensiveness, and occasional accusations of sexism (which is ridiculous given that she's one of the most staunchly anti-feminist voices in American politics. Also imagine how people would react if Obama said criticism of him was due to racism? Hooo boy.) And the truth of the matter is, she has quite an extensive track record when it comes to her being poorly informed or just plain ignorant.

add to that she highlights her ignorance as a badge of honour that she isn't some "coastal Harvard educated latte slipping elite etc etc". In her world knowledgeable and policy matters = out of touch with the "real" America

Clearly a slip of the tongue. Even with regards to her famed ignorance, I think that the average American would look way more retarded if they were subject to the same media scrutiny. Hell, I'm willing to bet that our average forum poster here (and we're a pretty smart crowd) wouldn't do much better, if at all, if subjected to the same scrutiny. Palin isn't dumb, she can't have got to where she is today without having some shrewdness.

I can agree that she's probably not smart or knowledgeable enough to be a competent President, but that's exactly how she gets her appeal with the Tea Party who view intellectuals and the elite with distrust.

Of course you're right about the continuing backlash in the US against all things elitist (including being smart, they're just so FEW of those people dag gummit, and they think they're so durn smart). She was governor of the biggest hick state of the union: Alaska. I mean, come on, the state's entire voting population is smaller than Cincinnati. She had as many people vote for her as governor as a lot of small town mayors. She got there on her looks, not her intellectual prowess.

Haha, well I should clarify that I mean she's not that stupid compared to the general American population. I would say she's probably the least intelligent vice presidential candidate that I know, but the extreme manner with which many people mock her suggest that they think themselves better. Actually probably over 80% of liberals think they could do a better job than her, but most of them would be wrong. I still don't view her as a capable or valid candidate, but she gets a lot of shit for stuff that should have nothing to do with her viability of her candidacy.

I'm more conservative, but she kept me from even considering voting for McCain. Despite his healthcare plan, which would have failed, I would have voted for him. But she scared mne way too much. If he had a coronary and she got the reigns of the government...

Agreed. The glasses actually make her hotter. Hillary Clinton is a smart business woman dresser and I've always loved short hair. I want it moderate to really long (like Miley Cirus currently has) or short. In between hair doesn't work for me. Even my wife knows that if she cuts her hair, I'll be all over her until it reaches a not long or short state, but then be all over her again when it is down well below her shoulders.

I'm with you on short hair. I think it just depends on the womans' features if she looks good with short hair or long hair.

Girls almost always look better with long hair. There are very very few exceptions. Those times we think a girl looks good with short hair, it's probably because we haven't seen them with long hair.
