Irritating move in gunboat game
Hello to all Diplomacy-Experts,
please have a look to the game gameID=15723 and the Turkish support for the italian convoy in 1903. Is this a normal move? Could Turkey anticipate this?
Thanks a lot for your comments.

Hey Tru I don't know where you've been or what church ou have been to
oing to but i have been going to church every sunday for almost my whole life and the more i go the more i see how much bullshit it all is. I don't know what church you go to but i'm orthodox so tht meens very traditional and honetly i don't understand how a person can full heartedly believe in this

@denis - organized religion (church) is different from beliefs. I believe in God. I have faith, but my faith is in Christ, not in a building, or a congregation, or a predifined set of rules. If your faith is in the church, it's people, and it's leaders, then your faith is misplaced. Never confuse the church with the Church.

I have faith in the fact that mary was fucked by a random guy and then they covered it up so she wouldn't be killed. And that it really debateble as to why Jesus is famous because there were many philosophers who people don't pray to everyday. I don't believe in the church i don't believe in god but I do believe the principals are good not the rituals
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Nov 09 UTC
You are free to believe or not, denis. I was just saying to not equate organized religion with true faith and belief.

Please lets not let this turn into a religion debate just because one guy couldn't see the humor in the thread.
I don't see anything wrong about Jesus being in a joke, as long as it isn't dirty, as many in this thread will or has been.
jman777 (407 D)

exactly. I've found some of these to be extremely funny, and a few are actually very good allegories.

So Moses, Jesus, Muhammad and Richard Dawkins walk into a bar. . .
They meet up with Siddhartha, Confucius, and Joe Peshy and play a game of diplomacy in the corner . . . who won and why?

(Joe Peshy is included because George Carlin once said that he doesn't pray to God, but he does pray to Joe Peshy. Anyone remember that bit?)
ottovanbis (150 DX)
29 Nov 09 UTC
I do, Red Squirrel. He worships the Sun and prays to Joe Peshy. He said he'd always asked God to shut up his neighbor's dog, but he never came through on it. Joe Peshy straightened "that cocksucker out with one visit..it's amazing what you can accomplish with a simple baseball bat." Very funny!
It would depend on who got what countries Red Squirrel.
Red Squirrel (856 D)
29 Nov 09 UTC
i think youre reading too much into it, i was expecting a funny punch line or something like Joe Peshy won because he beat the others to death with a baseball bat.

@Red Squirrel - sounds a lot like the "First Baseball Game" by Dan St. Paul.

I see that the IMDb describes Joe Pesci as a "Compact Italian-American actor", making me wonder if "compact" is a technical term in the movie biz, or if they're using it instead of "short" just to avoid being on the wrong end of a baseball bat.

@Tru Ninja
I think people who reject the existence of God (and lampoon those who don't) do so more out of frustration with the anti-intellectualism that surrounds it. For those with scientific backgrounds it's disheartening that what to us is basically a book of fairy tales can dictate the decisions made by our government about how we live our day to day lives. I for one would certainly not want my children learning creationism on an equal footing with evolution, for example.

I do think that Dawkins does go too far sometimes in his bilious attacks on those who believe in one thing or another though. Everyone is entitled to believe what they like, even if it's without proof (for proof denies faith etc). But I can understand his frustration when George Bush tells us he went to war because God told him to, and my taxes go through the roof as a result.

In any case, everything can be humorous. If a religion can't stand to have the piss taken out of it it's not a particularly strong faith. In other words, lighten up.....

Tru Ninja, if you think it's offensive, you don't need to tell anyone. you don't have to call atheists fools. just stay away if you don't like whats going on dude.

and, just for the heck of it, i'll have my say on this religion issue.... :)

i'll start by asking ou guys a few questions
....first, how do you define right from wrong? what made you respond like you did? where did that notion come from? where did people get the idea that killing is wrong? stealing?

second....what is evil? can you DEFINE evil? how did that originate? how do you know it exists?

third....for all the atheists, when you do something that's "morally wrong", you usually get a bad feeling about it, right? guilt. where does that come from? why do you get it?

finally, for darwin's theory of life coming to be out of nothing, would anyone here believe me if i told you my computer was made out of sand, and particles and stuff just swirling around in the middle of nowhere? if not, how can you believe that that was how we humans, something more complex than any computer, came to life?
Toby Bartels (361 D)

>finally, for darwin's theory of life coming to be out of nothing

Darwin does not have any theory remotely like that.
Kansas State (0 DX)

ok. my mistake.
so then where does life come from?
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
29 Nov 09 UTC
"nothing", or not life, but Darwin's theory is of how complex life could result from simple life forms.

@ Kansas State (an appropriate name for a creationist!)

>where does life come from?

Good question. Darwin hardly considered it, since he was working on other stuff, as TheGhostmaker reported.

But scientists since then have considered it. Here are three links, the first an informative overview of what they've come up with, the second a partisan defence of their ideas, and the third a partisan attack on them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abiogenesis
http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/abioprob/
http://www.trueorigin.org/abio.asp

These are just the first three Google hits for "abiogenesis". So really, all you were missing is the word for it, but I give you the links as well.

Not that you've claimed to be a creationist. Maybe an abiogenesis sceptic?

This thread has produced a number of good jokes, but I would just like to put in my vote for Crazy Anglican's. That one was really funny.

I'm a believer, but I think you can still make some pretty funny jokes out of religion. ;-)
