I disagree. The value of their life is equal. I, to, am smarter than the average bear (well MENSA thinks I am) but that does not make me superior to the neighbor boy with down syndrome. In fact, I can learn a lot from him and his outlook on life.
Smug, self-deluding, superiority complexes are always wrong. It's like true wisdom. The truly wise man realizes he knows nothing in the grand scheme of things.
You may be better at somethings, or even most everything, but that doesn't make you Homo Superior. You are still Homo Sapien, just like the "homeless Joe" who, for all you know, is a Vietnam Vet who is down on his luck and, at one time, could kill you with his bare hands and without blinking an eye or breaking a sweat.
