Brainbomb, that message contrasts with just about every other movie in the franchise. "Face your past" and "Let the past die" are two very different messages.

I'll admit, more or less it was a quality film. There were some definite high points. But it was not a quality Star Wars film. The messages were completely different. The plot didn't make sense when reviewed in context of canon. Etc etc. I mean, come on think of the timelines. And certain characters could've been written out and not a single plot point would be different.

You don't improve something by shitting all over the good parts, tossing them out, and starting fresh. I didn't like VII all that much, but I at least placed it solidly over episode I and II. I cannot say the same for this. This attempted to improve it, but spectacularly failed in doing so.

There were some parts I really liked, but in general I felt it was all over the place in terms of plot, pacing, and direction. It's like they threw 4 concept scripts down a flight of stairs and just went with whatever they happened to pick up.

It was like the writers were doing a group assignment in college and instead of working on the whole thing together, they just each took a set number of pages of the script to write and didn't talk to each other again until the morning it was due.

"Dude, your script has Finn and Rose blowing up Snoke's ship, but my part ends with the Admiral blowing up that ship."

"Well, fuck, let's just have them do my whole part for no reason and escape on a shuttle even though literally everything else has exploded."

"But we know Finn can't pilot a shuttle because in the last movie he needed Poe's help to escape."

"Fuck it, man, we have to get this Prof. Iger in like 30 minutes."

It ruined the Canon of star wars. From a visual perspective probably the best honestly but from a lore and Canon perspective....yikes.

This director wasn't JJ. JJ did an ok job.

And from a cinematic and visual perspective, this movie was amazing. But from a more, plot, continuity and character development perspective it was awful.

To get my point across - prequel Anakin has a more believable reason to be an angsty godawful teen than Kylo Ren. And idk, maybe I would've liked to see how Luke reacted to hearing that his best friend and sisters husband died? Instead of CUTTING AWAY. Every damn time there was a potential character moment, the film was just like "nahhhh, we won't do that. Here, have some Porgs instead"

Goldfinger pretty much sums up the problems I saw with the movie. Star Wars has been about the characters and story, but they seem to be making the same mistake as the prequels by thinking we come for the spectacle.

The movie opens up some potential for episode 9, and the movies are meant to be enjoyed as trilogies, but if the last two movies are anything to go by episode 9 will have amazing effects, and cinematography, but it's characters will lack substance and lead to a disappointing climax between Rey and Kylo where the entire scene will do something stupid in the name of "subverting expectations".

It was truly an awful movie. They set it up really fine in the Force Awakens which wasn't a bad movie at all. Then naaaaaaaaah F**K everything you know about Star Wars. F**K the plot and lore of this franchise. That's this film, The Last Jedi.
